Solid opening for Potter in Japan in Russia, not record breaking but it should hold OK.

UK's total is huge though.

Transformers had a good drop, though Mexico was slightly less than i was expecting...

The drop in England was better than it was in the U.S England had previews so the drop was probably closer to 50% really. The Variety article also said the drop in Brazil and France was under 50% that is very good right there.

Yeah spin the numbers. Potter didn't do that well and you know it. It's weekday numbers were overestimated by 4m $ and without Japan and Russia, other countries made 73 m $, which is a huge drop from last weekend. There are no more big markets to open in for Potter and it's chances to make 900m $ WW are falling fast.

Actually its more like 80 million without Russia and Japan. And that is only a 50% drop really. A good bit of that 200 million came from Wed and Thursday. It only droped like 52-53% in England (It made 4-6 million in previews which inflated that weekend gross). It is dropping better overseas than it is the U.S there is no question about that. I still think it will do 285 in the U.S and 630 overseas for a total a little north of 900.

Well i wouldn't say it's as bad as what you made it out to be....sure it's not super impressive but it's still a good hold....against Potter 7 and some solid holdover competition....

still on track for $600m.

'Deathly Hallows' sells 8.3 million

Final 'Harry Potter' book breaks previous record
By STEVEN ZEITCHIK
http://www.variety.com/article/VR111796 ... id=21&cs=1

In a rare instance of the printed word grabbing the spotlight over movies and videogames, youthful buyers snapped up 8.3 million copies of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" in its first 24 hours of release in the U.S. this weekend.
Tally for the seventh and final book in J.K. Rowling's mega-selling series tops the previous record for the first day of a book's release, which belonged to Potter as well: The series' sixth installment, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," sold nearly 7 million copies in its first 24 hours when it bowed in July 2005, according to U.S. publisher Scholastic.

While the book and movie businesses are structured very differently, dollars the franchise generated domestically this weekend for its creator and distributor surpass what a studio might take in for a hit tentpole. Publishers typically sell books to wholesalers and retailers for a 40%-45% discount off the retail price, which means the Saturday sales alone could generate more than $150 million in receipts for Scholastic and Rowling.

For people trying to prove/spin that OOTP weekend is horrible/bad simply STFU....
193m$ was from 5 days not 3 day weekend....Wednesday gross was 29.2m$....taking Thursday gross to be 17-18m$(may be more cause we don't have exact numbers)....so we are left with a 3 day weekend of around 146m$......this weekend gross is 100.8m$...excluding 18.6m$ from Japan and 7m$ from Russia we are left with a weekend of 75.2m$.....which gives OOTP a drop of 48.5%.....not amazing but really good considering the book was released this weekend.....what you people were expecting??...huh....and pretty good sign with most major markets(UK,France,Germany) dropping below 50%....UK dropping only 46% for the weekend against book release....not too shabby....

I'm actually glad it was above $100m....was kinda a worried actually

Good is a matter of perspective ;)
In Germany HP5 had easily the worst second weekend of all Harry Potter movies (in admissions). It's only slightly ahead of HP3 at this point with one extra day and one heck of a competition coming up. It might actually end up as the least successful HP movie when it comes to admissions, if it doesn't turn on tha back burners soon, a far cry from HP4. Though when it comes to money, the strong Euro should save it.

Not that there is anything bad about making around 900 million worldwide ;)

LOL, i meant it as a joke....

Obviously people were fearful that the Book's release may affect it.....let's see if it rebounds in some way next week........Simpsons will be big, but i don't think it'll be at the same levels as the Big 5.....i think it may open to like Die Hard 4 levels..

Just like ROTK in Germany...it didn't top both FOTR and TTT despite the reception.....

Perhaps there's something against third or fourth sequels in Germany. None seem to do wel there....except for somehting like the The Wild Bunch or something...

Advance ticket sales for THE SIMPSONS in Germany are on the same level or better than PIRATES 3 or HP5... Absolute minimum weekend is 1m tix, but I expect something between 1.5m-2m opening weekend...

Nothing makes me stronger than your fragile heart
If I had only felt how it feels to be yours
I would have known what I've been living for all along
