I will see Elektra opening weekend, I guarantee it. But all these awful clips make me think it'll be at best Van Helsing quality, at worst Catwoman.

I don't really have any interest in this film or this argument, but Naturalflux, how can you expect anyone to have a better reason for not being interested in a film other than "the plot sucks" when the film hasn't been released yet? This seems like a perfectly resonable reason for not wanting to see a movie you otherwise know nothing about.

not really. All youve done is said "The premise isnt good, it looks horrible" which is the same as saying the film sucks.
And the costume thing is the nearest you've gotten to giving a good reason for not liking it. Personally, the only weak link i can see in the project is the little girl - i think that relationship could "Garner" some pretty corny dialogue.

Daredevil was too full of flashbacks and laughable melodrama - Elektra looks to have cut this element out and gone for the jugular.

Just because that's the only weak link you can see doesn't mean that's the only weak link everyone else thinks the film has.

Good one Libs. He seems very opinionated to me.

Because he is totally obsessed with Jennifer Garner, and will praise anything she does even if it sucks. And if someone tries to tell him otherwise, he will explode like a time bomb.

The whole hillarity of this situation is that people on message boards never accept each others opinions. Theres always someone on the other end with a debate that leaves you bored and annoyed to counter whatever you say.

Point being - i think people are being way too unfairly critical on this film before they really know a huge deal about it - and whilst i understand people may have opinions about something - i dont really see how or why i should accept them unless the person explains to me their reasoning behind it. Film critics only gain respect by giving more than one point of view about something, and giving reasons as to why they think something about a film. And i dont think im being narrow minded or shallow this way because one of my pet peeves is people who dont accept other peoples opinions - its just opinions like
"Crap. Elektra will do shite! And im glad! Its looks poo, if it doesnt do shite i will hate this film for the rest of my days"
are ridiculously immature and unreasonable.

Screw this. I hate messageboard arguments. They are awful; and as i can already see turn into egotistical personal attacks. But im so fed up seeing people diss other people just because they have a taste on X and X. Its like, i can accept other people have opinions on a movie - but for me to understand why they have this opinion i need some reasoning behind it

Is that too much to ask?

I see what you're saying, but you're asking people to back up their opinions wih lists and lists of facts for a movie no one has seen yet. They're forming their opinion off of what they have - trailers, clips, etc. You can't ask for more than that at this stage.

YES PLEASE
Trailers and Clips THATS what i wanted to hear opinions about. Not the premise. But everytime people justify their dislike for the project its just some nonsense about how they think its going to "suck". Whats so wrong with these clips that makes them look terrible.

A debate can start if someone says "The sound isnt' good and i think jennifer garner is miscast"
An argument can start if someone says "It sucks, i hope it fckin bombs"

Well that is the risk that you take when you post the clip in the first place. I never said it sucked, and I hope it bombs. I just said that the clip was average, and I think it looks cheesy. There are people bound to say it sucks and they hope it bombs, just deal with it, and move on.

Dear lord, message board arguments are the worst. First, people say to get a backbone. Well, let's see: you're all arguing with your trusty keyboards. Oooo boy, look at me, killing you with my rapid typing!! Some people need to wake up, sometimes. PinkPanther, you are one to talk, saying Natural's admiration for Jennifer Garner clouds your judgement. I'm sorry, is that ANOTHER Hilary Duff movie in your top 15? Also, Elektra is a lot like Catwoman, except unlike Catwoman, some are giving it a chance, while others are IMMEDIATELY opposing it. I guarantee many just hate the idea of the film, not the film itself. I won't deny it that Elektra may be the worst film ever, but arguing over shit like this ESPECIALLY without seeing it.

Many people say "Well, so and so said this movie sucked". I don't know, I've heard of something that some people come up with called "opinions", maybe some should look into it. God knows Algren did, if he went past all the negativity and still enjoyed Catwoman. I'm not saying that some aren't right for expressing their opinions, cause they are. But back and forth banter on the user himself is stupid. He's right, message board arguments are the worst, because generally people think the only opinion is their own, then they await the other person to crack under the pressure, and immediately make the other look bad. Textbook stuff, really. Say it's good, say it's bad, but arguing over it is ridiculous. Just as ridiculous as, oh I don't know, me? Even I can make fun of myself... and now to press Submit... hamina hoo!

Dearest Alias fan Mr X
You said pretty much everything id been thinking :)

And on Elektra - im under no illusions that the chances of this film getting good reviews are about as likely as Ashton Kutcher anchoring a $700m hit film - but that said i dont think Elektra ever had a chance to get good reviews - its a comic book spinoff to a pretty bad movie with a female lead in January.

Thats a big old death knell in mosts peoples heads and i guess it may be why people just arent giving this film a chance...at all.

Still, ive heard alot of people who whilst arent convinced the film is going to be any good - are still going to go see it; and the early reaction is alot better than Catwoman, and...lets not forget Daredevils pre-release reaction either...

Plus. I would give preps to Algren for seeing Catwoman and becoming a big big fan despite some terrible buzz. But then he goes and posts stuff about Elektra that is similar to the stuff people were posting about Catwoman...

Yeah, alot of contradicting going on here.

I enjoyed CATWOMAN, despite the bandwagon bad buzz. And i don't tend to say "i hope this BOMBS cause the posters ugly".
But i also noticed Natural wrote:
"But im so fed up seeing people diss other people just because they have a taste on X and X. "

But you gave me slack for liking Catwoman. :)

Anyways, all the best to Elektra, i hope she finds success and opens over $20,000,000.

Woohoo for female lead action movies!

In the middle picture, she has a Marcia Cross ("Desperate Housewives") look, and in other pics, she looks a LITTLE like Jessica Simpson. But, that's just me. :-$

Me likey....me likey alot. The leafs falling and turning black give the thing a "Hero" look which is pretty stunning imo.

This did nothing for me probably because it reminded me of Daredevil.. I'll simply pass on this..

Trailers and Clips THATS what i wanted to hear opinions about. Not the premise.

It's a little bit ironic that you say the cinematography is great and pass that off as a justification without providing any reason why it is great in your opinion. So here are specifics...

Look at the chunky lead up to the kiss, the stolen Matrix like slow mo pan around the kissing ladies, the Hero-stolen leaves effect. When the leaf-lady is walking towards the little girl there is absolutely nothing threatening about it (should there be?). The poor lighting on the girl (last second). It's not "the worst I've ever seen" but there is nothing in this clip (or the previous one) to suggest that this could be considered "great cinematography". It's television cinematography. You average episode of CSI has better.

The costumes are horrible. The leaf-lady looks as if she just walked out of a Tulsa hair salon. Everybody else is dressed in dark blacks and dark dark blues making everything monochromatic.

Scenes without dialogue are supposed to contain a lot of facial acting and drama, and while you can tell that Garner is definately the one here with the most experience. It does not excuse the "boyfriend" character or the really, really awful little girl (who is evident not only here but in the trailer). Elektra has the same pout on her face at :02 seconds as she does at :28 seconds. There is no menace to either of the "bad guys".

The forced sexualization of the fight in general is completely laughable, although many teen boys may have many countless nights finding pleasure with it and a some Crisco. It's not errotic.

So there is your reasoning.
