Arrogance usually is brought on by a lot of intelligence, which clouds your better judgement, when talking to someone who you may think isn't all that smart to begin with. You don't have to be that way, you know. Just because you don't want friends doesn't mean you have to treat people that way.
For starters, there are people forcing their opinion down people's throats. Hey, do what you please, but don't deny it when you see several posts that go on and on and ON about how good or bad it looks. Second, you have not seen the movie. You saw five minutes of the film. The first five at that. Once you see it, tell us all about how much it sucked, then. It's fine to say the first five minutes sucked, but don't see you've basically seen the movie because of it. Any Simpsons watcher knows that the show in its first five minutes is completely different from what the episode is about. You can't base it on just five minutes and say you saw it. And finally, you discount someone's opinion because they're a fan of Jennifer Garner?

I never said that person wasn't intelligent. I never said I was intelligent either. Just opinionated, which I think at this point is obvious. Quote: You don't have to be that way, you know. Just because you don't want friends doesn't mean you have to treat people that way. I also don't have to babysit people's bogus opinions when they have nothing to say. I don't have to headline every single post with "IN MY HONEST OPINION" because it should be obvious to anybody on the internet that people ON INTERNET MESSAGEBOARDS CANNOT MAKE YOU DO ANYTHING YOU DON'T WANT TO DO. Quote: For starters, there are people forcing their opinion down people's throats. That's absolutely not possible. Nobody on this topic is drawing a line in the sand sand saying that "you are not cool if you like this movie!" I just expect some justification, which I don't expect anybody to give me except for the few who's reviews I love to read. Actually the person I responded to, provided more justification that nearly anybody on this topic who actually liked the clip. I just don't like being told that I'm jumping to conclusions based on material I haven't seen, when I have, actually seen it. Quote: Second, you have not seen the movie. You saw five minutes of the film. The first five at that. Once you see it, tell us all about how much it sucked, then. The comments were about the five minutes of film that were released. Try to deny that all you want, but the five minutes were meant to get people to go see the movie, and CLEARLY that is not happening. Quote: It's fine to say the first five minutes sucked, but don't see you've basically seen the movie because of it. Point out to me where I said that I saw the movie and it actually sucked. I said "It is gonna suck!" but that's just my expectation at this point. I could be proven wrong, but we won't know until late summer and I watch it on DVD. To be quite honest, while the trailer was derivative, it wasn't a horrible trailer, and this 5 minute bad impression does not make me want to go see the film. That was its goal, it has FAILED. Quote: You can't base it on just five minutes and say you saw it. And finally, you discount someone's opinion because they're a fan of Jennifer Garner?
I discount your opinions on horror movies because of your generic love for the genre. I discount people's opinions all the time that I don't find any worth. I'm sure Algren and Zingaling discount my opinions on certain films all the time. Do you think that bothers me? I expect it. I just vocalize it. Later this year, anybody who professes to be a Joss Weadon fans opinion will be suspect during the Serenity reviews.
The person has a bias. That's fine, it's my right to expose that and discount his/her opinion. I have a bias against 5 minutes of horrible, horrible film making, which I feel the Electra preview is. I feel that the poster is looking beyond that five minutes and finding justification for it because they like Jennifer Garner. I'm not trying to tell him/her to think otherwise, I just think it's obvious.
There you go.

Maybe I mistook that, andaroo. It just makes it sound like you've seen 5 minutes, you've seen it all. Thanks your reply, though.
Oh, and I don't love the horror genre. Most horror films suck. The only good horror films (which you probably didn't like) of the year just happen to be in my top 10. Most of the slasher horror films I do not like. GET YOUR DAMN FACTS STRAIGHT!!!!
...
Sorry, I was just kidding with the last part. But seriously, thanks for replying. You made yourself look better than what I initially saw, and I'm glad. No worries, mate.

It's no problem.
I was harsh on the person earlier... I thought about going back and editing out the Jennifer Garner part.
But we all make fun of Algren for his love of Stallone, and PinkPanther for his Duff obsession, so I think it's fair game.

Very true, andaroo. Whoa... sounds like a kids show. "Very True, Andaroo". Don't forget me, and my obsession of Bill Murray! *hears the flocking of Zingaling and Dr. Lecter, ready to swoop in for the kill (aka teasing)*

Does anyone else get bad audio when watching it?. Both in Windows and Apple the sound is all noise and scratchy.

You may "feel" that my love for Miss Garner is clouding my judgement of the film on the whole, which is valid - because id be lying if I said that my enjoyment of watching Jennifer Garner didnt affect my bias for a film which soley features the said actress as the lead.
But from the whole part where you said "Try to deny that all you want, but the five minutes were meant to get people to go see the movie, and CLEARLY that is not happening. " - has it secretly opened already and bombed horiffically? Because, from what your saying this clip has failed to generate buisness for the film which isn't out yet. From what im reading the opinion is pretty much split on the first 5 minutes - but i do get the feeling that a breed of movie fans are way too quick to give their negative opinion as though it has resounding importance - and follow the flock to gain respect and self importance.
Still, that said , many of those who have faulted Elektra in general say they will "go see it because Jennifer Garner is finnee" which makes me wonder why I avoided Catwoman like a plague because Halle Berry is also finneeee. Perhaps people like it more than they are letting on? Its a shame that internet film fans have to slam certain genres and films before they are even released to give it a chance from promotional material alone. With some films in genres with bad track records, or released in months notorious for bad quality - critics and filmfollowers tend to be quite close minded. I can bet that even if Spider-Man was horribly inferior to the first one, it wouldnt have met this kind of hostility.
But looking BEYOND that I do have to question just what is so horrible about the first five minutes? The cinematography is some of the best ive seen in an action film - its dark, whispy nature makes it seem pretty different, and it sets up Elektra's character perfectly for the AmericAsian action that follows in the film. Its shots are framed very well, and the scene where Elektra is walking down a dark corridor is very Parisian sleek. I like it alot for what it is, how its shot, and of course the way they are setting up Jennifer Garners character. Not for Jennifer Garner alone, and i feel that the presumption that my opinion on something shouldn't be a valid one just because i like the leading actress is ridiculous. How many Julia Roberts films would have bombed without her? Everyone has affiliations with certain actors and actresses, so therefore everyone should not have valid opinions? Spare me.
Im thinking that this is a case of damned if you do, damned if you dont....

that lists all wrong, im at number one!
Although i didnt buy her dress [being in the UK vat and shipping would cost as much as the item] i do have her autograph, and pretty much everything you can buy with her in it

I feel that most people who didn't like Daredevil already assume they won't like Elektra. My brother was like that. He didn't even see a trailer, teaser, poster, nothing. But he immediately said it would be crap, cause he didn't like Daredevil. That's fine, but it doesn't mean Elektra will suck. It MIGHT.

I didnt like daredevil and i was a huge jennifer garner fan at the time too. I just found everything else apart from her boring and corny.
If i had been the same way about Elektra- i would have made it known.

Its funny coming from Naturalflux7 to make such criticism when it wasnt that long ago, he slammed most peoples prediction for 13 Going on 30 for making any opening prediction under 20 million back in april yet hes saying that everyone else is judgemental about the movie. Im not forcing my opinion onto anyones throat as you are with your favorite actress

When your debating something with someone - you don't present your argument against them to other people, referring to them as though youve just turned your back on them to have a good bitch - as though the person your talking about isnt there.
Anyway i see no relevance whatsoever about what your saying has to do with this thread or my comments?
I don't like coming on film forums any more BECAUSE theres way too much confrontation, confliction of opinion and people with big egos about the 0 value their opinion has to anyone else.

Why? Daredevil was badly made, littered with corny dialogue, boring scenes and cardboard acting [apart from Jennifer and maybe Colin Farrell]

Because theres so many of them, shes a very charismatic and talented woman. And it seems that 2003/2004 has seen the rest of the world wake up to this secret that us Season Oners of Alias have always known - That Jennifer is destined for superdooperstardom that shes currently enjoying \:D/

Electra looked good to me till its first trailer ever hit the net.
From that point on, I was pretty certain this deserves no money of mine cept that for a rental (or if word of mouth is somehow good).
I hated daredevil not for being badly made but for cliche dialogues and scenes. Thats all that the trailer for electra ever provided too. same goes for the trailer after that + this 5 minute preview. I have no interest in seeing this right now. A single actor doesn't make a movie (look at Walkens ... one of the best actors in the business, plays all his parts to perfection yet stars in crap and so many more actors).

I like Garner, but I think she is very overrated as an actress.
