WOW

today i found out that both TRANSFORMERS and THE SIMPSONS MOVIE are releasing same day and date in UK aka July 27th.

Seriously, I love The simpsons but it will definitely get killed by Transformers. Something tells me it will flop horribly there.

I mean shrek 3 got a 31 million OW and DH4 released yesterday in UK and will have a damn solid OW. Transformers is something new and fresh and is getting amazing WOM so naturally audiences in UK will be inclined to watch that movie more than The simpsons.

I predict Transformers to take #1 spot
Shrek 3 takes the 2nd spot
The simpsons or LFODH 3rd spot
LFODH or The simpsons 4th spot

Transformers moved to the 25th of July (Wed) didn't it to get a head start on Simpsons.....i don't know, stupid move by both studious....one of them should go and I think Simpsons should be the one...

Robots have taken over the domestic box office this Independence Day as DreamWorks and Paramount 's Transformers raked in $29.08m on the US national holiday, the biggest July 4 gross to date. The film's performance beats Spider-man 2 at $21.9m in 2004.

Transformers – which has a 6.5 day opening in the US – has already generated $65.75m across 4,011 screens in its first 2.5 days of release in the US, including Monday night takings of $8.8m across over 3,000 screens. It took $27.87m on July 3, marking the highest US gross for a Tuesday ever, beating Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest at $15.7m.

Internationally, the robots in disguise also fared well in 10 international territories at the weekend and took a sizable $36.2m across 2,133 screens. Transformers generated $13.1m in South Korea, $3.5m in Italy, $6.8m in Australia, $1.3m in New Zealand and $1.5m in Taiwan.

Holiday fireworks for 'Transformers'

Never has Independence Day been such a picnic for the film biz.

DreamWorks and Paramount's "Transformers" made July 4 box office history with an estimated Wednesday take of $29.1 million that easily beat out the previous record holder, the $22 million "Spider-Man 2" spun on July 4, 2004.

Domestic cume for "Transformers," which is playing on 4,011 screens, is $65.7 million heading into the weekend. Worldwide total is $119 million.

Almost every pic benefited from the unprecedented holiday surge. Traditionally, Independence Day itself sees a dip in ticket sales compared to other days in the same holiday frame, but not this year. Overall box office is estimated to be the biggest on the books for July 4.

According to Rentrak, total receipts were $60.5 million. In 2004, when "Spider-Man 2" played, total take was $44.2 million, the previous record-holder. Last year, box office was $31.8 million on Independence Day, with "Superman Returns" at No. 1. In 2005, July 4 box office receipts were $29.2 million.

Box office forecasters say inclement weather, including rain on the East Coast and a heat wave in the Southwest and in Southern California, probably helped ticket sales.

Disney-Pixar's "Ratatouille" cooked up an estimated $10.2 million from 3,940 screens Wednesday, after taking in $7.9 million on Tuesday, upping toon's total domestic take to $72.6 million. Fox's "Live Free or Die Hard" drew an estimated $6 million from 3,408 engagements after $4.5 million the day before. Total take is now $63.2 million.

Michael Moore's docu "Sicko" coughed up an estimated $1.2 million Wednesday as the film expanded onto 626 screens. Total take is around $6.9 million.

Warner Bros. laffer "License to Wed" rung up an estimated $5 million on the holiday from 2,401 screens. Pic bowed at an estimated $2.2 million when opening Tuesday. Cume is $5.2 million.

Opening on Wednesday, MGM's "Rescue Dawn" took an estimated $37,878 from five screens in Gotham and L.A. for a healthy per-screen average of $7,575. Warner Independent Pictures debuted "Introducing the Dwights" on four screens, taking in $11,596 for a per-screen average of $2,899.

Box office forecasters expect Michael Bay's "Transformers" to hit the $125 million mark for its 6½-day opening. Pic, based on the Hasbro toy robot line, was penned by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.

"Transformers" is looking to be the first nonsequel tentpole hit of the summer, as well as a likely franchise for DreamWorks and Par. Its perf will also be a shot in the arm for Bay, whose last film, "The Island," was widely considered a dud after such box office hits as "Pearl Harbor" and "Armageddon."

As the holiday weekend opens, Fox Searchlight bows Sundance entry "Joshua" on six screens.

Overseas, Paramount looks likely to dominate, with "Transformers" and "Shrek the Third" battling for the top slot against Fox's widened release of "Live Free or Die Hard" -- titled "Die Hard 4" in foreign markets.

"Transformers" is expanding from 10 to 22 markets, with the foreign cume a beefy $53.5 million in its first eight days through Wednesday, led by South Korea with $17.5 million and Australia with $9.8 million.

============

Impressive right through. It added about $17.5m on top of the opening weekend's $36,253,961.

Korea added $4.4m on top of it's opening weekend of $13.1m .

Australia added a superb $3m on top of its opening weekend of $6.8m. School holidays in play.

Those who said Transformers may do badly in Europe could be slapping themselves after this weekend.....it's beating WOTWs in some important European markets there.......WOTW didn't exactly have the best legs, so Transformers has a strong shot at equalling it if it opens well...

Russia = $2.4m already, means it's probably headed for an opening weekend north of $6m since it has a 5-Day opening. WOTW/King Kong are both at $5m.

Spain = That figure should be an opening day because King Kong opened in Spain with $426k. Transformers opened in Spain on a Wednesday, which means that it'll be having a 5-Day opening just like WOTW's, that movie made $7.7m 5-Day and $5.8m 3-Day. King Kong 5-Day was $4.9m and 3-Day = $4m. With an opening almost doubling Kong, Transformers could well be looking at a $7m+ weekend.

Sweden = It opened near Phantom Menace levels....WOTWs opened with $800k 5-Day and King Kong did $893k 5-Day. Sweden almost received Transformers on a Wednesday....so based on the opening day, it could well open north of $1m.

Denmark = My guess is that it's an opening day figure though hard to say. , King Kong did $252,000 opening day...and $1.1m over the 5-Days. Transformers may well open north of $1m here as well.

Norway = Hard to say here as well whether its an opneing day or not, but $506k would put it just below ROTS' $546k opening day. Seems kind high for an opening day, but you never know.....though either way, it's headed for a $1m+ opening weekend...which will put it above WOTWs $865k and near King Kong's 5-Day $1.3m.

Overall, outstanding opening days so far.....Europe could well be a solid market for Transformer.s

Well we have our week to week analysis happening for one day. 55% drop from opening thursday. but when you're talking $2 million expected.

KU first of the pretenders to TRANSFORMERS managed a reasonable opening imho, around 700k if we estimate from the early figures.

Pirates fighting hard and looking to $33 million, with SHREK looming very large in the rear vision mirror.

Is it just me or is the race for year's top grosser suddenly getting real interesting. TRANSFORMERS on present pace could suprise, and Potter will be in the mix shortly. Then there's of course the year end heavy hitter. Wide open at this stage.

Knocked Up looking very dangerous instead, $700k puts it ahead of Ocean's Thirteen which did $633,000....that movie went on to gross AUD$4m+...so Knocked Up could well be in the vicinity of $3.5m-4.5m opening.

Transformers 55% Thu-Thu drop means it did about $900,000 on Thursday....of course, it'll level out over the weekend and it shoudl fall beneath a 50% drop....a drop anywhere between 40-45% would be great for this.

It says:
$2.4m first two days in Russia beating KING KONG by 100 %, M:I3 by 187 %

$763,000 Spain (doesn't say how many days), 90 % ahead of KING KONG

$415,000 Sweden first day including previews in 88 locations, 54 % better than WAR OF THE WORLDS, 43 % better than M:I3, 51 % better than SUPERMAN RETURNS, 29 % better than ARMAGEDDON

$203,000 Denmark (doesn't say how many days)
$506,000 Norway (incl. Previews, doesn't say how many days)

Norway (2-day) - $632.446. ;)

Then what's the $506k, that's too large to be an opening day if it's 2-day gross is $632k...unless it dropped like a rock on the 2nd day

Either way, i'm ecstatic with its opening powers so far in Europe, things are looking very good....it hasn't flopped yet in any market.

Italy was dissapointing but hardly a concern....

Bad for people without air conditioning. Good for movie theater business. The 7/11 forecast for here, shows a potential high of 101 degrees. So, I'll be seeing Harry Potter that day.

I've seen Transformers twice already, but, I might go see it again next week.

I don't think those European numbers look that good. Plus it opens too close to Potter in most of Europe and Potter will just kill it. Transformers won't make more than 700-750 WW.

That is amazing for a non sequel.

Also it will be one of Paramounts+Dreamworks biggest worldwide blockbuster.

Transformers had worse 2 day launch than DH4 in Finland.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/intl/finla ... =26&p=.htm

It did $128,508 in 2 days (3rd spot) in finland compared to $194,241 for DH4 which opened on top spot.

Not good at all. Although DH4 increased big time on second weekend.

No. It didn't. The 2-day opening for DH4 was $194.241. The $663.060 is 9-day gross. But TF's openings don't look very good in Europe. ;)

Err, right, you were predicting $800m or something were you

Our initial predictions have it at $600-$650m.....doing $700m would be a huge success for this type of movie.

You peope should slap yourselves for making such sensationalists claims :shades:

Yeah, Paramount and Dreamworks have done well this year, they have two of the strongest blockbusters of Summer so far...

FINLAND - First 2-Days

Of course, nowhere near blockbuster standards. But it should be able to hit $250,000 for the weekend, which is a solid gross....in line with other movies such as X-Men 3, Mr. And Mrs. Smith, Night At THe Museum.

It is hardly a flop here, you people should look at the bigger picture instead of pointing to one market and blowing things out of proportion.

Lord Of The Rings: ROTK - $595,349 (2-Days - 68)
Harry Potter 3: POA - $454,246 (2-Days - 70)
Pirates Of The Caribbean 3: At World’s End - $407,567 (2-Days - 80)
Lord Of The Rings: TTT - $361,112 (2-Days - 58)
Harry Potter 1: PS - $290,354 (2-Days - 66)
The Matrix: Revolutions - $246,168 (2-Days - 59)
Die Hard 4: Live Free Or Die Hard - $194,241 (2-Days - 55)
War Of The Worlds - $183,920 (2-Days - 50)
Kingdom Of Heaven - $148,059 (or $134,895 without p/v 2-Days - 46)
Transformers - $128,508 (2-Days - 46)

Transformers expands to 18 new territories; set to cross $100m

Jeremy Kay in Los Angeles

http://www.screendaily.com/ScreenDailyA ... &Category=

Paramount/PPI's Transformers has already amassed $53.5m since opening last weekend and stands a good chance of crossing $100m over the next several days in international markets.

The effects-heavy tale of warring robots touches down in 18 new territories this weekend including Russia, Spain and Sweden on July 4.

PPI stablemate and the current international box office champion Shrek The Third will soar past $300m this weekend and stands at $284.6m.

Fox International has two big releases in play, however executives were unavailable after the July 4 national holiday to give details of new openings.

As of last weekend, Live Free Or Die Hard stood at a little over $44m following a strong launch weekend, while Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer should cross $100m this weekend after raising its tally to approximately $88.3m.

Buena Vista International (BVI) executives expected Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End to overtake Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets to become the fifth-biggest international release by the weekend.

The third episode of the swashbuckling saga has no new openings but has amassed $614m and needs another $700,000 to enter the top five.

Meanwhile BVI opens Ratatouille, currently on $8.3m from the early stages of its run, in Argentina on Jul 5, followed a day later by Mexico and Brazil.

Warner Bros Pictures International (WBPI) reports no new launches this weekend. As of July 1 Ocean's Thirteen stood at $124.1m, Zodiac on $43.9m, and 300 on $243.6m.

Sony Pictures Releasing International (SPRI) has a quiet weekend ahead and opens the thriller Vacancy, currently on $3.7m, in Taiwan and India on July 6.

Hostel: Part 2 has two minor openings and has grossed $8.1m, while Spider-Man 3 stands at $548.8m.

The wartime thriller Black Book, which SPRI has in Australia, New Zealand and India, launches down under on July 5.

Universal/UPI's Evan Almighty has taken $3.3m so far and opens in five small markets this weekend. Another Universal comedy, Knocked Up, begins its international run in Australia on Jul 5. The horror film Dead Silence opens in the UK on July 6.
