I'm confused. BOM now shows $1.5m total for its opening week. And I was using BOM for comparison with that $3m figure, which shows Pirates opened to $1.2m for the weekend and $2.2m total, and SM3 $981,930 and $2.1m.

Could the 3 million be in Taiwan currency? That would be my only guess.

I thought about that too, but Taiwan currency is cheaper than China RMB, which is 7.6 to US $1.

Excellent openings so far.....nice to see it above $8m in Australia (if MadGez is correct) and i'm not that dissapointed with Italy. It's Okay, not that bad.

I agree it's not bad, but it surely is well below expectations. It grossed 2.1M euros on OW, which is similar to what FF2 picked up 2 weeks ago...not exactly something to be proud of. It should end up at about 7M (again, in euros), which is 40/45% of what AWE and SM3 have grossed so far. It doesn't seem the kind of movie that destroys records, especially considering how nowadays OS easily beats DOM when it comes to big blockbusters. It's still early, but 250/275 DOM and about 350M OS is what I see.

Well Italy is a bit of a hit and miss, it doesn't seem to be as warming to sci-fi movies as say, the adventure or epic type movies such as Spiderman, Pirates or The Last Samurai.

Star Wars 3 didn't do well here, though it did hit $10m which is an OK gross.

AUSTRALIA (AUD$) - Opening Weekend

Although this is just the 4th largest opening of the year, it's is pretty impressive considering we had it pegged at the $6m-7m to start with. I was really hoping for $8m and this one did it.

It's a much stronger start than WOTWs and Transformers beat it's 5-Day with one less day of play. Transformers is the talk of town at the momment, every single person talking about movie cannot not talk about Transformers. I just had dinner in a cafe tonight and the waiter was asking, are you guys going to see Transformers....LOL...

Oh, some news from moviemarhsla.com.au

===

Thankfully Transformers gets prime holiday weekdays - more so than Potter. I'd expect it to drop no more than 40% next weekend too. Knocked Up should be able to manage a $2.5m opening atleast.

===

$10.5+ throught Tuesday, assuming this isn't heavily front end loaded lock in the fourth blockbuster of the year. It should make it if only based on a 2.5 multiplier from opening weekend.

KU may impact with the date movie set driving it, hence taking the 20s male set away from TF.

Getting real interesting between SHREK and AWE now, $28 and $32 respectively (figures rounded). For the amount of people apparently hating SHREK the movie is motoring.

28 WEEKS 12k away from $2.5, pitty we don't have the same levels of manipulation the U.S Distributors have ($1 theatres etc, witness last year's insane work to get Supes to stagger over $200 million. Which no doubt indicates the need to market the DVD releases).

==

AUD$10.5m means it made about $2.5m Mon to Tuesday....not mind blowing but still solid numbers.

If it drops better than 45% this weekend, i'll be ecstatic....it's tracking really well and should be at around $15-17m by the end of Sunday......this will so blow past $20m.....currently tracking around $25-27m.

Guess the relative budgets came into play or something.

TF now $11+

Not sure if this is an updated Tuesday cumulative gross .....it would've been well over $11m by Wednesday...

WOW

today i found out that both TRANSFORMERS and THE SIMPSONS MOVIE are releasing same day and date in UK aka July 27th.

Seriously, I love The simpsons but it will definitely get killed by Transformers. Something tells me it will flop horribly there.

I mean shrek 3 got a 31 million OW and DH4 released yesterday in UK and will have a damn solid OW. Transformers is something new and fresh and is getting amazing WOM so naturally audiences in UK will be inclined to watch that movie more than The simpsons.

I predict Transformers to take #1 spot
Shrek 3 takes the 2nd spot
The simpsons or LFODH 3rd spot
LFODH or The simpsons 4th spot

Simpsons are very big in the UK. I think moreso now than the US since it averages around 3 million viewers in the UK

well I don't think that will happen now.

But what i love is that PARAMOUNT is supporting HD-DVD meaning Transformers will be coming on HD DVD.

Awesome i support HD DVD so I am happy that Transformers will come out on it.

But i will only buy the regular DVD especially 2 disc special edition hopefully with more action footage or scenes to make it a bit more fleshed out.

Nah, personally i see the opposite, atleast at the theaters in a close proximity if me - simpsons is getting plenty of exposure so to speak, plus on buses, phones boxes etc. Not so much for transformers.

damn it.

I feel pretty :sad:

I love simpsons but I am a new fan of Transformers. Mind you only the movie of course.

Transformers was just insanely awesome that I would like it to do big business in UK.

But i want simpsons movie to do well too in UK.
