Far out.
...and I mean far.
This film is skirting the outer edges of reality like an olympic skater carves an edge. The definitively funky FX are perfectomundo. The acting is severe. The story is bordering on psychotically depressing.
All in all, a great couple hours at the movies!
7 out of 5.
(*Note: For perspective, I gave Gondry's previous film, Human Nature 1 rating of 1 out of 5 -- I hated it.)

I liked it quite a lil bit. Very similar to Eternal Sunshine, without that hint of masterpiece plaguing the 2004 film. If you take it at face value and don't try to make it make sense on any other level, it works really wonderfully. If you think too much about the nonreality, which is really just there to give insight into Bernal's character, it gets kinda muddled...but in either case its interesting, charming and very fun(ny).

I'm going to watch it again tonight, but I think it's wonderful.
Probably my favorite of last year, as of now.

Wow. This'll go down as one of 2006's biggest disappointments for me.
I expected to love it.
I kind of hated it.

Proof that Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was a masterpiece because of the screenplay, not the director. B-

Yeah, it was rather infuriating, wasn't it? Yuck.

Infuriating is a perfect word for it. Infuriatingly aimless, confounding, pretentious, and even a bit soulless.
More thoughts later.

I'm firmly in the "crushing disappointment" camp on this one.

It's imaginative, but it didn't capture my imagination. I admired it without ever being lifted or moved. Decent, but disappointing and, surprisingly, forgettable. B-.

I really like it. I feel bad now.... maybe having no expectations (I'd like to think I go into films without any expectations... if possible....) and just being delighted to see Him on screen pleased me enough.
I'll watch it again, perhaps. I'm on the fence now. Thanks, bitches.

don't doubt yrself. It's a funny, charming little film, and there's little reason for any fan of Gondry's not to dig it. (Well, in any case, a fan of his music vids.) I found it very Eternal Sunshine, which was obviously a good thing.
Oh, and loyal loved it, if i recall. :O

Eh... well, I've seen it a total of three times.
I still love it. *shrug*

I really enjoyed this movie when I saw it last summer, though I agree that it is "surprisingly, forgettable", but that is one of the ways Gondry has made it feel all the more dreamlike -- who doesn't tend to forget their dreams as they wake upfrom them? -- so imho, that is one of the movie's greatest acheivements!
I'm not surprised some didn't like this one, as I said in my review it is seriously far out...

B+, if you liked Michel Gondry's music videos, this is more of the same.

"Felt" it on DVD twice.
This is a film that needs to be felt rather than just seen.
I like this genuine film that does not pass any third-person(social) judgment on its lead character Stephane. It is like a personal visit to Stephane's world, first-person account.
Sad that in real life we often fail to look at a person individually, instead we hastily apply generic terms to people we do not know much about. The film defies such way to label a person; it makes the clinical psychology term "schizophrenia" obsolete.
Feel the film for yourself.
