Asian Horror Movies Festival hosted by Dr. Lecter!
Well, it took me a while to decide between a German Film Festival and an Asian Horror Movies Festival, but in the end, the horror man in me prevailed, so here I am. Asian countries, like S. Korea and Japan have proven that they can deliver horror movies superior to most stuff made in Hollywood nowadays and now, Hollywood caught their formula with remaking movies like The Ring and The Grudge. This festival will deal with the original products, though.
Here is a short list of movies in question:
Ju-On: The Grudge
Ju-On: The Grudge 2
Ringu
Rasen (a.k.a. Ring 2: Spiral)
Ringu 2
Ringu 0: Bâsudei
A Tale of Two Sisters
Dark Water
Versus
Audition
The Eye
The Eye 2
The Twins Effect
Kairo
Bio-Zombie
If you have further suggestions, go ahead and tell me.

Lol. Lecter, can the "In the Realm" films count as horror? They certainly were horrific.
This film festival is going to be the death of me. Literally....
All this horror and I'm so wimpy with the gorry phantasms.
Had I but known...

I will procur them by tonight. Ringu is such a big movie that I'm *this* close to watching it myself. Just have to build up the courage first.

I still need to see the original Ju-On. I'm going to rent it later this week. I heard people were screaming during it...
By the way, have you seen Dark Water yet?

Nice to see you peeking into this forum without me having to coerce you in my depsperate attempts to generate interest in foreign flicks Jen. You are going to love this festival, especially if Dan makes an appearance. Makeshift, Termi, and Lecter will LOVE this.
Welcome,
-Dolce

By the way, have you seen Dark Water yet? Hello all, new here.
Just thought I'd jump right in...
I love the first Ju-On (The Curse). The second was very good but spent a tad too much time showing what happened in the first. I disliked The Grudge because it felt like an Americanized version of The Curse.
Dark Water is by far my favorite of all the Asian horrors I have seen. It blew me away, not only the scares (the elevator scenes, the tub, the girl under the desk and the tower...not to mention the freaky bag) but the emotion and heart that flick has. The ending left me drained...I loved it.
You mentioned most of the great ones I've seen other than Kairo (think head scratched like A Tale Of Two Sisters with an even more depressing feel), Bio-Zombie (think the original Dawn Of The Dead mixed with The Return Of The Living Dead) and The Twins Effect (Buffy The Vampire Slayer mixed with Blade 2: make sure you see this and not the reedited version retitled The Vampire Effect).
Nice to meet everyone!!!

Let me welcome you at the WOKJ boards! Don't be scared off by my all-hot avatar, I usually don't use it, but I thought it'd be appropriate for a horror movies festival.
So in the name of the whole WOKJ crew I want to welcome you here and I hope you will enjoy your stay.
Oh and thanks for your input in this thread. I will add the movies to the list.
*slaps himself on the forehead for forgetting The Twins Effect*

I've seen many, many other Asian horrors but those were the cream of the crop. I could always name flicks like Uzumaki, Suicide Circle (or Suicide Club), Junk, Evil Dead Trap, The Happiness Of The Katakuris and many others that I kinda like or others like and I hate...I just hate recommending flicks I don't think are easily accessible, and most of those aren't. Hopefully we'll have time to discuss, debate and dissect many of them.
