It MIGHT get 9000...

With a 120 ratio = 75 mil = $58 mil Friday

With a 130 ratio = 69 mil = $52 mil Friday

Using approx. how many ratings?

Also, what was DMC's ratio?

DMC had 117. With review opening on Thursday and higher initial international gross, the logic says AWE should be higher. I think Friday gross looks to be around $50m.

9000/150 = 60?

which would be a 43 mil friday... which is NOT gonna happen

no...i loved awe.

i was the first to say the thursday screenings would completely deflate ther friday and thats what will happen. 60 million is just about the most it could make in the market place today had it opened on a friday due to shrek and pidey-hell 50 might even have been the most. spideys hype was through the roof and it had an empty makret place and it didnt break 60 on its first friday. so say pirates 3 would do 55 friday...now take into account it got rid of 17 million bucks, perhaps as most as 23 according to fabio-before friday began.

you see why i am going so low? a total should be 65-70 tops by the end of friday.

With a world wide release and less than one year's difference, I think the ratio increases significantly compared to DMC. The Shrek and Spiderman movies had three years difference. SM2 came out on a Summer Wednesday, while SM 3 opened on a Friday when school was still in session, which I think accounted for some of the difference in ratio.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (Friday) 16,504 $33,529,613 492.22

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (Thursday) 14,061 $50,013,859 281.14

X-Men: The Last Stand 7,784 $45,102,265 172.59

Spider-Man 3 ~6,900 $59,841,919 115.30

Spider-Man 2 (Wednesday) 5,089 $40,442,604 125.83

Spider-Man 2 (Friday) 3,151 $32,452,342 97.10

However, the ratio went up for Sith on the second day, while the ratio went down for SM 2 and Superman Returns Wed/Fri, so I guess it could go either way. It would be nice to know the ratio for X2 (didn't see it listed) compared to X3. I suspect it goes over 130 for the ratio, with a wider world wide opening and the staggered release in the US, but you are more experienced with interpretting these numbers.

Do you also not realize that Pirates is in more screens than SM3 was at release, and also in more theatres overall?

This "SM3 had the marketplace to itself" argument is flawed IMO.

yes i realize it, but spidey didnt have 2 films combing for 80 million+ over tis opening 3 day like pirates does. thats HUGE impact. it wont cripple pirates but ti will prevent it from doing these atmospheric numbers many seem to think are at hand.

I tend to agree with you, mdana. If not for the decreasing trend in ratio since last summer due to clogging and frontpage changes, I'd say 150 for AWE. The international number is huge this time, and an extra day of reviews especially benefit them. I'm still thinking something close to 130, but I won't be surprised if excel is right.

Spidey and Shrek will combine for $70 mil 3-day... TOPS

Excel... do you realize that you said this
Quote:
a total should be 65-70 tops by the end of friday.

Which if you subtract the $17 mil Thursday... $48-53 mil. At LEAST $5 mil higher than what you JUST said 5 minutes ago

Yes but if Spidey had the top 7 screens at a multiplex and AWE has 4/5 of the top 7 then it doesn't have the same potential as Spidey. They may both be playing in 7 screens, AWE will not have the top 7 all to itself. When Spidey opened, the number two movie was Disturbia avg. $1.8k per theater. Even with a wounded Shrek 3 and SM3, AWE will not have the run of the top screens like SM 3. Shrek 3 and SM 3 will avg over $10k and 3k per theater.

Kinda hard to tell, Excel.

If you take off the 2200ish BEFORE 4AM yesterday, it would equal roughly 6000.

The written ones do, yes.

The ratings update about every 30 mins it seems. But we usually do hour updates instead of 30 min ones or ealier.
