Quote:
Rise: Blood Hunter is a 2007 horror/neo-noir film directed by Sebastian Gutierrez. It is a Samuel Goldwyn Films release starring Lucy Liu and Michael Chiklis. Rise is a supernatural thriller in which a reporter (Liu) wakes up in a morgue to discover she is now a vampire. She vows revenge against the vampire cult responsible for her situation and hunts them down one by one. Chiklis plays "Rawlins," a haunted police detective whose daughter is victimized by the same group and seeks answers for her gruesome death.

I really want to see this but it's not playing anywhere near me so I'll have to wait for DVD.

This seems awful. Lucy Liu's career has certainly gone downhill.

I had the option of seeing this at the Tribeca Film Festival this year, but decided against going for obvious reasons ;)

"Good and evil are just imaginary friends."

This is a cool offbeat little vampire/detective hybrid that shows some real heart (literally and figuratively). Lucy Liu, once again, makes the most of her talents and the material she has to work with and elevates what might have just been a trite B-movie into an elgiac charmer that excels from beginning to end. Rise rings true. The oft-told vampire tale is given an engaging spin, as undead Liu seeks to kill and to be killed alongside detective Chiklis. Darkness ensues.

I can't wait to see the sequel... Rise 2: Blood Lust !!!

Arise! As Rise has risen.

7 out of 5.

(Note: Those who are afraid of strong female lead actresses in edgy wound-out roles (eg: Sharon Stone in BI2 or Halle Berry in Catwoman) need not apply, even though Liu is sultry sweet here.)
