THE HYPOMETER

The Hypometer is an internal measure (by which I mean it works within this thread) which is based on people's listing of their most anticipated films.

Basically, you guys list your most anticipated, and rank them (hopefully). I will use that information to compile a list of most anticipated films.

The ranking will be as follows:

#1 most anticipated: 10 points
#2: 9 points, etc.

until #10, which will get 1 point.

No ties :) Don't list 5 #1s to increase a film's standing.

You can, btw, list fewer than 10, its perfectly fine. All films beyond #10 will get 0.5 points each, equally.

So, for example, say my most anticipated are

1. Star Wars 3
2.Batman Begins
3. Sin City

SW3 will get 10 points added from your ranking, Batman gets 9 points, and Sin City will get 8 points.

The film with the most points accumulated will of course be #1.

You can change your rankings anytime, btw. Say, you saw SW3's teaser and weren't impressed, etc.

So just list your top 10, and I'll take care of the rest

THE PERFECT COMBINATION

The 2005 releases will be divided into 5 categoires: blockbusters/big hits/hits/moderate hits/small hits or bombs.

Each user picks 2 films from each of those categories, for a total of 10 films for 2005.

The goal is to have the 'perfect combination', meaning, the highest grossing one. Films like SW3 or WOTW would obviously be in category 1, while films like 2046 would probably be in category 5 (Indies and foreign films would generally fit there).

Cheers

My top 4 are very close, with the exception of #1 which is far and away my most anticipated.

Narnia has a decent edge, but 3 and 4 are interchangeable.

Well, what do you think? I'm still not sure about this, sigh. I hope they pull it off.

I'll tell ya: I really want to appreciate this, I really do, but it just looks so low budget that it's difficult for me to get worked up over this and at best, I see this doing HELLBOY type of numbers and appealing only to hardcore comic lovers... Some comics aren't meant to be made into movies and I think after this, MARVEL and Hollywood might just feel the same way, but then again, maybe they won't and they'll continue to churn them out.. Will see, but so far, I'm not impressed.. The Thing HAS to be 100% CGI and much much larger to do this justice and so far, Tim Story hasn't exactly been blowing my skirt up over this.. Remember folks that the Thing took on the damn HULK for heaven sakes and look at how big he was?? At least he looked like he was supposed to..

I REALLY want to like this too. I'm rooting for it to be a winner, but I'm keeping my expectations very low. What I have seen so far has not been very encouraging. Perhaps the final product will prove us wrong, but unless they start rolling out some kick-ass trailers or images, I'll remain suspicious until I see the film.

here's hoping for the best.

As a sidenote, I think 2005 is shaping up to be a great year for comic book films.

Guys, tell me what you think:

Will Spring 2005 Make Up For The Passion?

I don't see a $370m hit anywhere this Spring. Heck, I don't see one anywhere this year!

It'll take the equivalent of 3 $120m+ films or 6 $60m+ films to make up for The Passion. You might recall that Spring 2004 was rather weak until The Passion saved it and pulled it ahead of 2003.

Does ayone think 2005 has enough big films pre-May to match 2004? I think it will fall short.

*Bump*

An interesting look back at what we were thinking 2005 would be. I think our expectations of $300 million films were disappointed...

Were there any other 2005 Prediction threads?
