PS, you can easily see the jump from PG to PG13, Davey Jones killing that one guy with his face was not only disgusting, but completely unnecessary. I dont see this having the legs of even the 2nd film.

Good then, this one seemed definitely to stretch the most. But certainly not R rated.

I never thought I'd see the day where I agree with Magnus vs. the forum, but I gotta agree with him: if Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is a better film than Spider-Man 3, than it's at least just as bloated, misguided, and five times as confusing. It throws out all the build up from Dead Man's Chest for a whole new armada of goals, double crossings, treachery, and ham-fisted attempts at being "timely." Every one of the frightfully misguided references to The Patriot Act just completely misfire. Did the film really have to open with the British gleefully slaughtering enough extras to make the scene take visual cues from Schindler's List? Then there's the whole battle for freedom, something that Devin from Chud really sums up best:
Knightley delivers a speech that misuses the concepts of freedom in such a way as to rival that of the slave-owning Spartans in 300. Standing before an assemblage of pirate ships about to do battle with the Royal Navy, she tells the brigands and scoundrels to show the Brits what free men look like or some such nonsense... free to do what? Murder, rape and steal? The film has made no bones about these particular proclivities of pirates (she herself had Chow Yun-Fat* forcing himself on her an hour earlier), so is that what they're fighting for? The ability to be thieves and killers? After that speech realigned my thinking - aided by a scene where Knightley just about spits at poor Jack Davenport, who I liked so much in Ultraviolet (not the shitty movie), something along the lines of "You chose what side you're on!" The side of not raping and pillaging? How dare you, Davenport! - I found I was horrified by the carnage visited upon British sailors who were just trying to stop vicious criminals. I'm okay with rooting for the bad guys when they're presented as good guys in crime and mob films, as long as no one is pretending that the crimes they're committing are part of some grand philosophy. Once Knightley brings "freedom" into the mix the whole movie turned to ash for me. Hell, she's really in it for revenge - why not use that as a rallying cry? You can shoot a Chinese woman point blank in the face in a Disney summer blockbuster, but you can't fight the final battle for anything but freedom.
For a film that's just about three hours, why did it have to have most of the scenes be about character's twisted motivations back and forth. The scene at the sand bar even addresses just how silly the amount of side swapping has become. When the film finally arrives at the only memorable action scene, it all but crumbles under it's own weight. It's on par with the siege on Zion for being monotonous, boring, and silly. (A makeshift parachute? Really?) It's like the film makers thought if they made this "dark" it would make up for how little sense it all makes. C-

The most arrogant bloated piece of cinema I have ever seen on the big screen.
I guess Moviedude and Magnus can count on my agreement
I'll have a full review shortly

It takes out the only things good about DMC (the action and humour) and extends all the pompous bloat in DMC out to nearly 3 hours.

I think its more of the same, just much more confusing. Well not so much confusing, I got pretty much everything that went on, but it was like watching BASIC, every few seconds someone was backstabbing someone else, and so many happened, you ust don't care.

You kidding, there is way more action did you leave the theater for the last 45 minutes or so?

I wish I had but I had to wait until it finished so I should bring my 2 sisters and brother home. The 2 sisters loved it btw, the brother simply said the editing was horrible and it was average at best.

Hey I wish I was my 11 year old sister who's assessment was "I loved the Monkey". At least then I'd never have lost 3 hours of my life to boredom hell.

I'll say the only decent part for me was the destruction of the Endevour, the music was pitched well for the scene and it had an air of the absurd about it.

I WILL give MovieDude and Guill points for noting that the film pretty much deludes itself into thinking that it's some sort of giant LOTR-esque epic about freedom, even though that freedom is for the freedom to murder, rape and pillage cities, which is kinda nuts for a Disney feature.
But damn if they didn't put on a good show during the whole deluding process, which is why I don't see this dropping below *** for me.

I've seriously never been so flatfooted by the KJ reviewers before.
I mean solid A's plus Magnus hated it which is normally a decent sign the film is actually good. I was pumped to see it.
Damn you for deceiving me.

what a harsh burn. Just when Magnus thought he had a friend in this desolate region of Pirates fans
Could you have any more of a fitting name right now, Bonecrusher?

You haters are insane!!!
The freedom to murder, rape and pillage?! What the hell are you talking about?!? You're thinking of realistic pirates. Fucking idiots.
The freedom to sail the seas and not be hunted. That's more like it.

I loved this movie. It had everything I wanted from a summer movie, entertainment, great action sequences, comedy, and hot women. (Keira was smoking hot this time around, standing ovation ) The pacing was great and the nearly three hour run-time flew by. The score fit in perfectly, esp at the final epic battle. And the scene after the credits was a nice way to end the trilogy and maybe start off the next film.
