Trite, boring, obvious, and most unforgiveable of all -- unfunny.

Stinkingly bad, including the new higher resolution animation which doesn't suit the material at all.

One of the worst movies I've seen in a long, long time...

-7 out of 5.

-7 out of 5, you understand the concept of negative numbers?

Certainly has that "been there, done that" feel, but it's a breeze to sit through with some nice humors. B.

What a terrible third entry this was. There were some good things don't get me wrong, but sadly the bad outweighs the good, and by a massive margin I must say. First of all, Justin Timberlake's voice. I wanted to go deaf for the entire movie once I heard his annoying girly voice. Second of all,it just wasn't funny. There were a few laughs here and there, but nothing laugh out loud funny. Shrek 2 was far superior, as was the original. What I did like was Puss in boots, Donkey, Pinocchio, and Gingerbread Man. They totally stole the movie. In fact it would've been better without Shrek, Fiona, and all the other characters. I just thought the plot was lazy and stupid. The pop culture references are non-existant. They were so clever in the original and the sequel, but I didn't catch any this time around, and if I didn't they were much to subtle for me to spot. It's not horrible, but it's the weakest entry in the series, and least funny. I think I only laughed a few times. A fourth entry has been confirmed and I really hope they get better writers, and a much more talented director because this film was a huge disappointment for me. I just didn't find it to be very impressive. I was expecting alot since I loved the sequel. This was a major letdown for me. First Spidey 3, and now this. This year isn't looking too great for third entries. That's alright though I know Pirates 3 is going to be amazing.

It would be a good movie if Artie didn't take a royal shit all over it. Now it barely musters a B-.

It was so bland. It completely lacks the exuberance of the original. I'd say that, whereas the first two films were comedies with dramatic elements in them, this film is a domestic drama with the occasional comedic moments. The Gingerbread Man and Pinnocchio are great, as is some of the stuff involving the princesses, but it's striking how sombre and pontific the film gets. Also, it felt much longer than it actually is, which is never a good sign...

Oh, and Artie is the single worst gimmick in the entire trilogy; what an utterly embarassing and pathetic character.

Well, at least it was better than Spider-Man 3, but that film was such an unholy mess...

B-/C+

There is the odd flash of entertainment (the Gingerbread Man Moments, or the interplay between Puss in Boots and Donkey) but otherwise its a nightmarish fusion of pop culture jokes that would have a hard time getting into a bad Family Guy episode, and the blatant feel of a cash-in.

Still at least it wasn't as bad as the 2nd one.

My review.

I thought it was funny, though it was nowhere as good as the first two. Actually, this was more of a movie with great moments rather than being a great film. But still, it was fun.

Grade: B.

Im moving my grade up to a B.

You know, I actually liked it. I mean, I felt it was kinda touching. But it's a drama, not a comedy, and it's not really for kids. But I like that it's maturing, in line with the characters.

Maybe I was just in a good mood the night I saw it, but I laughed way more at Shrek the Third than I remember laughing at 1 or 2.

I still find the state of computer-animated films today to be quite dire. And I'm probably somewhat alone in this. It's frustrating when frenetic, witless crap like Over the Hedge and Happy Feet get free passes from critics (and undeserved Academy Awards), and Shrek 3, a film with genuinely funny moments, gets lambasted.

I do agree that the film's story is weak, especially compared to the original's. And the Timberlake character is annoying and slows things down. (Might I suggest that they stop this celeb voice casting thing. They're indistinguishable. Get trained people.)

But I don't remember the first two having moments like Gingerbread Man's life flashing before his eyes, or Puss as Donkey doing his cat eyes. Cracked me up. I think Scott's comment that it's more of a film with great moments than an actual great film is pretty accurate, but there were enough of those moments for me.

And a great film I think it is.

I'm honestly happy you guys got some enjoyment out of Drek the Turd, but I can't help but believe that one day in the future you'll all come to your senses.

So with that in mind, here's a few choice quotes from this thread you can shake your heads at later, and we can all enjoy a good laugh down the road...

Halfway through the screening I was at of Shrek 3 I actually fell asleep, which is not a good sign. I expected a step down in quality from Shrek 2 not a friggin' nosedive, good god this movie is bad. Based on what I've seen so far I'd give Shrek the third:

D

The other half of the movie could've been awesome which might've made me bump up the grade, but I can't bring myself to sit through it again so I guess I'll never know.

BJs Grade:

D

I was pretty much forced to view this garbage and as expected its a dull and disgusting rip off of the first two films. Felt longer than the other two and was so bland i nearly went to sleep.
