I didn't even know who Patty Boyd was! That's interesting - I'll have to give the original an additional listen, as I've always thought the Unplugged version sounded better.

I subscribe to the Clapton is God school of thought, so I full of info about him.

Give it alisten, when you knowthe story behind it the wrods mean so much more, and you can feel so much of his emotion in the song, so that is why i love the orginall..the acoustic is also a favorite of mine because well Clapton is God

Aaaaaaand....the final list.

Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon - Urge Overkill
I've been misunderstood for all of my life
But what they're saying girl it cuts like a knife
"The boy's no good"
Well I've finally found what I been looking for
But if they get their chance they'll end it for sure
Surely would
Baby I've done all I could
Now it's up to you...

I Am Trying to Break Your Heart - Wilco
I'd always thought that if I held you tightly
You'd always love me like you did back then
Then I fell asleep and the city kept blinking
What was I thinking when I let you back in?

Crazy Love - Ray Charles w/ Van Morrison
I can hear her heart beat for a thousand miles
And the heavens open every time she smiles
And when I come to her that's where I belong
Yet I'm running to her like a river's song

Shoot the Moon - Norah Jones
Now you're left to face the gloom
The empty room that once smelled sweetly
Of all the flowers you plucked if only
You knew the reason
Why you had to each be lonely
Was it just the season?

There There - Radiohead
Just 'cuz you feel it doesn't mean it's there

Closer - Nine Inch Nails
You can have my isolation, you can have the hate that it brings
You can have my absence of faith, you can have my everything
Help me tear down my reason, help me it's your sex I can smell
Help me you make me perfect, help me become somebody else
I want to fuck you like an animal

Undone - The Sweater Song - Weezer
I'm me. Me be. Goddamn. I am. I can. Sing and. Hear me. Know me.

You Got Me - The Roots w/ Erykah Badu
Somebody told me that this planet was small
we use to live in the same building on the same floor
and never met before
until I'm overseas on tour
and peep this ethiopian queen from philly
taking classes abroad
she studying film and photo flash focus record
said she workin on a flick and
could my click do the score
she said she loved my show in paris
at Elysee Montmartre
and that I stepped off the stage
and took a piece of her heart
we knew from the start that
things fall apart, intentions shatter
she like that shit don't matter
when I get home get at her
through letter, phone, whatever
let's link, let's get together
shit you think not, think the Thought went home and forgot
time passed, we back in philly now she up in my spa
tellin me the things I'm tellin her is makin her hot
startin buildin with her constantly round the clock
now she in my world like hip-hop
and keep tellin me...

Ending Credits - Opeth
Completely instrumental! Awesome, smooth guitar riff!

And...since I kicked it off with a David Bowie song, I'll end it with a

David Bowie song that's also last alphabetically...none other than

Ziggy Stardust
Ziggy played guitar, jamming good with Weird and Gilly
The spiders from Mars. He played it left hand
But made it too far
Became the special man, then we were Ziggy's band
Ziggy really sang, screwed up eyes and screwed down hairdo
Like some cat from Japan, he could lick 'em by smiling
He could leave 'em to hang
Came on so loaded man, well hung and snow white tan.
So where were the spiders while the fly tried to break our balls
Just the beer light to guide us,
So we bitched about his fans and should we crush his sweet hands?
Ziggy played for time, jiving us that we were voodoo
The kids were just crass, he was the nazz
With God given ass
He took it all too far but boy could he play guitar
Making love with his ego Ziggy sucked up into his mind
Like a leper messiah
When the kids had killed the man I had to break up the band.
Oh yeah
Ooooooo
Ziggy played guitaarrrrr

Image

And, just to give rusty and Lecter a reason to smile and relish some of the songs on this list, Song #101 is a four-way tie.

#101/1 is Vanessa Carlton's cover of "Paint it Black", originally sung by the Rolling Stones.
#101/2 is Richard Cheese's lounge version of "Rape Me", by Nirvana.
#101/3 is B.A.M.A.'s "Sweet Home Alabama", where all you hear is the background guitar paired up with an awful rhyme.
#101/4 is Arnold Schwarzenegger's "It's Raining Men" Total Body Workout.

So, there you have it. Minus the last four, I've been completely and utterly honest in my choices.
1) I admitted my love for Dashboard Confessional's "Hands Down", a song that these people use as an emotional anthem of some sort: Image

2) I put a Dixie Chicks song about a young soldier in my list. Image
3) I made room for a little song sung by Tim Curry while wearing a Speedo and a Leather vest. Image

I like all these songs, but I probalywoudl ahve left Jones off the list, I like her and all but i am not sure she's top 100 song list worthy.

Not bad Torrino, not bad.

Ya, I prob. shouldn't have even included the lyrics. When you get to songs like "There There" or "Jungle Boogie", there's really nothing that'll convince anyone to listen to the song if they haven't already heard it.

And, I just HAD to mention the fact that...if my list isn't mainstream enough, well...you should reconsider that once dolce posts her's. I've never even heard of Eugene Onegin and The Tales of Hoffman!

Well, just for that I am going to kick off my Top 100 with:

Jacques Offenbach - Les Contes D'Hoffmann (The Tales of Hoffman) - Act III/Giulietta/Barcarolle - Montserrat Caballe. 1998
Belle nuit, o nuit d'amour,
Souris a nos ivresses.
Nuit plus douce que le jour,
O belle nuit d'amour.
(Lovely night, oh night of love,
Smile upon our raptures.
Night sweeter than day,
Oh lovely night of love.)

" " Act II/Olympia/Aria - Beverly Sills. 1972.
Les ois-eaux-dans-la-char-mille,
Dan-les-cieux-l'astre-du-jour.
Tout-parle-a-la-jeune-fil-le,
Tout-parle-a-la-jeune-fil-le
D'a-mour.
(The birds in the bower,
the sun in the sky.
Everything speaks to the maiden.
Everything speaks to the maiden,
Of love.)

The Ramones - Sheena is a Punk Rocker
Well the kids are all hopped up and ready to go
They're ready to go now they got their surfboards
And they're going to the discotheque Au Go Go
But she just couldn't stay she had to break away
Well New York City really has is all oh yeah, oh yeah

Sheena is a punk rocker Sheena is a punk rocker Sheena is a punk rocker now.

Leonard Cohen - I'm Your Man
If you want a boxer
I will step into the ring for you
And if you want a doctor
I'll examine every inch of you
If you want a driver
Climb inside
Or if you want to take me for a ride
You know you can
I'm your man

Madonna - Sooner or Later (I Always Get My Man)
But if you insist, babe, the challenge delights me.
The more you resist, babe, the more it excites me.
And no one I've kissed, babe, ever fights me again.
If you're on my list, it's just a question of when.

Billy Idol - Cradle of Love
Cause love cutts a million ways
Shakes the devil when he missbehaves
I ain’t nobody’s fool
Come on shake it up
Whatever I do

Rock the cradle of love
Rock the cradle of love
Yes the cradle of love don’t rock easily it’s true

Nina Simone - Mississippi Goddam
You don’t have to live next to me
Just give me my equality
Everybody knows about mississippi
Everybody knows about alabama
Everybody knows about mississippi goddam

That’s it!

Bruce Springsteen - I'm Going Down
We sit in the caroutside our house
I can feel the heat coming 'round
I go to put my arm around you and you
give me a look like I'm way out of bounds,
you let out one of your bored sighs
Well lately, when I look into your eyes I'm
goin' down

Righteous Brothers - You've Lost That Loving Feeling
Baby, baby, I'd get down on my knees for you.
If you would only love me like you used to do, yeah.
We had a love...a love...a love you don't find everyday.
So don't...don't...don't...don't let it slip away.

Baby (baby), baby (baby),
I beg of you please (please), please (please)
I need your love (I need your love), I need your love (I need your love),

Johnny Cash (Live at Madison Square Garden, 1974) - Folsom Prison Blues
When I was just a baby,
My Mama told me, "Son,
Always be a good boy,
Don't ever play with guns,"
But I shot a man in Reno,
Just to watch him die,
When I hear that whistle blowin',
I hang my head and cry.

There's the first ten guys. Fire away.

w00t. I know 6 of these songs.

My fav. recording of Heartbreaker was also recorded in Madison Square, in '74.

I know Sheena is a Punk Rocker, I'm Your Man (o'course), Sooner or Later, Cradle of Love, I'm Going Down, and You've Lost That Loving Feeling.

Sheena is a Punk Rocker isn't my favorite Ramones song. And I HATE (on a similar level that you prob. do with Hotel California) You've Lost That Loving Feeling. Though, I'm not sure if it's the Righeteous Brothers version, because there's a female (I think) in the one I'm talking about, and it sounds nothing like Unchained Melody. Perhaps their follow up to Unchained Melody was a cover of You've Lost That Loving Feeling that I don't know...

I saw Bruce at the J. Kerry rally in Cleveland the night before the election (*sniff sniff*). He was awesome. I love pretty much everything he does, even though there's nothing of his on my list. When I was a kid, I'd always go "Boooooooooooooooooored in teh USAAAAA!". Anyone who thinks that song is celebratory of the US is either only reading the title (or looking at the cover, even if he's supposedly urinating on the flag, as many right-wingers have said, advocating censorship) or needs to pay much closer attention to lyrics. I mean, they're kinda obvious, yet there's still so many who believe it's like "God Bless America".

I'm gonna download the J. Cash song. I like the excerpt you provided us with ;)

Nope. I love all of Heartbreaker and Whole Lotta Love. The only parts I love about Stairway are the last two or so minutes. Other than that, it's actually kinda boring. The lyrics aren't great, either. I prefer the Heartbreaker ones. ;)

Why doesn't anyone like it? I think it's funny - in an innocently immature kinda way. Heh. It's a fun song.

Guys, focus on dolce's list. heh.

Have you listened to the StH on the How The West Was Won cd? The solo is stretched out to like 7 minutes and it's amazing. The drumming (which doesn't get as much respect as the guitaring) is amazing though not as good as Moby Dick.

Yeah. The two Offenbach are. You all have probably heard the first one. It was used as the Opera scene and record playing in Life is Beautiful. Anyone remember that song now? That version by the way, with Caballe, is the best I've heard. The rest of the full Opera Caballe doesn't hold up as well because she's got a bit deeper of a voice and most of it is higher, thats why the second one Olympia (from the same Opera) I listed the Beverly sills version. That's my fave in that one, and she does the best if you're going to get the whole opera. Though, 72 is only available in record because of copyright issues. :x

ok, here's 11

U2 feat. B.B. King - When Love Comes to Town
Used to make love under a red sunset
I was making promises I was soon to forget.
She was pale as the lace of her wedding gown
But I left her standing before love came to town.

I ran into a juke-joint when I heard a guitar scream
The notes were turning blue, I was dazed and in a dream.
As the music played I saw my life turn around
That was the day before love came to town.

James Brown - It's a Man's Man's Man's World (Live at Olympia, 1971)
This is a man's world
But it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl

He's lost in the wilderness
He's lost in bitterness

Elvis Presley - Suspicious Minds (Aloha from Hawaii. 1973)
We're caught in a trap
I can't walk out
because I love you too much baby;
But why can't you see
what you're doin' to me
when you don't believe a word I say;
We can't go on together
with suspicious minds;
and we can't build our dreams
on suspicious minds;

Portishead - Glory Box (Live in Roseland)
I'm so tired, of playing
Playing with this bow and arrow
Gonna give my heart away
Leave it to the other girls to play
For I've been a temptress too long

Just. .

Give me a reason to love you
Give me a reason to be, a woman

St. Etienne - Only Love Can Break Your Heart
When you were young and on your own
how did it feel to be alone?
I was always thinking
games that I was playing
trying to make the best of my time.

But only love can break your heart
try to be sure right from the start.
Yes, only love can break your heart
but if your world should fall apart...

Tom Waits - Better Off Without a Wife
never been no Valentino
had a girl who lived in Reno
left me for a trumpet player
didn't get me down
he was wanted for assault
though he said it weren't his fault
well the coppers rode him right
out of town

Doris Day - Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps
You won't admit you love me
and so how am i ever to know
you always tell me
perhaps perhaps perhaps

a million times i've asked you
and then
i ask you over
again
you only answer
perhaps perhaps perhaps

Prince - Kiss
U don't have 2 be rich
2 be my girl
U don't have 2 be cool
2 rule my world
Ain't no particular sign I'm more compatible with
I just want your extra time and your

Kiss

Punjabi MC feat. Jay-Z - Beware of the Boys (Remix)
We rebellious, we back home, screamin' leave Iraq alone
But all my soldiers in the field, I will wish you safe return
But only love kills war when will they learn
It's international Hov, I been havin' the flow
Before Bin Laden got Manhattan to blow
Before Ronald Reagan got Manhattan to blow

Wayne Newton - Danke Schoen
Danke schoen, darling, danke schoen,
Thank you for all the joy and pain.
Picture shows, second balcony, was the place we'd meet,
Second seat, go Dutch treat, you were sweet.
Danke schoen, darling, danke schoen,
Thank you for funny cards from Spain.
I recall Central Park and all,
How you tore your dress, what a mess, I confess, that's not all.

OMC - How Bizarre
Pele yells "we're outta here", Seena says "right on"
Make your moves and starting grooves, before they knew we're gone
Jump into the chevy, headed for big lights,
Wanna know the rest? Hey, buy the rights

How bizarre, how bizarre, how bizarre

Heh. I heard OMC for the first time on my grandmother's tv in Israel because they didn't have a radio. We would leave it on euro MTV, and SPice Girls were #1. I'd never heard of them back day. OMC was 18th there, and another one of my top 100 was ninth. I still remember to this day. I wrote down the info and when I came back to the states I started frantically searching cd stores for it. No one had heard of it. It only came out here half a year later. I heard it the first time it came on the radio. The announcer said he was about to play a new song for the first time, and I just knew it was going to be OMC. I recorded it and brought it to school and got the whole track team and my English class hooked on it. 8)

OK...next ten. I'll start it with the song that was number nine on Euro-MTV:

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds feat. Kylie Minogue - Where the Wild Roses Grow
From the first day I saw her I knew she was the one
She stared in my eyes and smiled
For her lips were the colour of the roses
That grew down the river, all bloody and wild
When he knocked on my door and entered the room
My trembling subsided in his sure embrace

Aretha Franklin - The House that Jack Built
This was the land that he worked by hand
The was the dream of an upright man
This was the room that was filled with love
This was a love that I was proud of
This was a life of a love I planned
Of a love and a life we loved
Of the house that Jack built.
Remember this house!

Leonard Cohen - Take This Longing
You're faithful to the better man,
I'm afraid that he left.
So let me judge your love affair
in this very room where I have sentenced
mine to death.
I'll even wear these old laurel leaves
that he's shaken from his head.

Just take this longing from my tongue,
all the useless things my hands have done,
let me see your beauty broken down,
like you would do for one you love

Giuseppe Verdi - Rigoletto - Act I/Scene 2/Intro to Gilda - Joan Sutherland, Luciano Pavarotti, Sherrill Milnes. 1985
Voi sospirate...Che v'ange tanto?
Lo dite a questa povera figlia.
Se v'ha mistero...per lei sia franto,
ch'ella conosca la sua famiglia.
(You're sighing...what ails you?
Tell your poor daughter.
If there's a mystery, dispel it -
tell her about her family.)

Ella Fitzgerald - Lullaby of Birdland
Have you ever heard two turtle doves
Bill and coo, when they love?
That's the kind of magic music we make with our lips
When we kiss

And there's a weepy old willow
He really knows how to cry
That's how I'd cry in my pillow
If you should tell me farewell and goodbye

Patsy Cline - You Belong to Me
See the market place in old Algiers
Send me photographes and souvenirs
Just remember when a dream appears
You belong to me
I'd be so alone without you
Maybe you'd be lonesome too in blue

Dr. Dre feat. Eminem, Phish, Xzibit - What's the Difference
Just keep my name outta yo' mouth and we can keep it the same
Nigga, it ain't that I'm too big to listen to the rumors
It's just that I'm too damn big to pay attention to 'em
That's the difference

What's the difference between me and you?

New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle
Every time I see you falling
I get down on my knees and pray
I'm waiting for that final moment
You'll say the words that I can't say

Otis Redding - (Sittin On) The Dock of the Bay
Look like nothings gonna change,
Everything still remain the same,
I can't do what ten people tell me to do,
So I guess I'll remain the same, yes,

Sittin' here resting my bones,
And this loneliness won't leave me alone, yes,
Two thousand miles I roam
Just to make this dock my home

Elvis Costello - Good Year for the Roses
I can hardly bear the sight of lipstick on the cigarettes there in the ashtray
Lyin’ cold the way you left ’em, but at least your lips caressed them while
You packed
Or the lip-print on a half-filled cup of coffee that you poured and didn’t drink
But at least you thought you wanted it, that’s so much more than I can say
For me

What a good year for the roses
Many blooms still linger there

This is a good song, you have very traditional and stereotypically mature taste in both films and music. ;)

Thanks. Its one of two James Brown Songs that make my list. :)

Hehe. I'm a walking stereotype, now excuse me whilst I continue to study up on English medieval marginalia art, read books about the Conquistadors, watch 50's and 60's Italian movies, and listen to Motown girl groups. What would possibly make you think I'm stereotypical? :P

btw, should I list the next ten or am I going too fast?

You aren't going too fast. I did 5 of the lists on the first day, and I did 5 in the next three. It worked fine. Although there weren't many people who commented, those who did continually dropped a comment...

I'd say, take 5 days to post the list.
