I have been catching up on some Season 3 episodes on DVD.

I had stated before that I disliked Season 3 significantly only compared to the previous 2 seasons.
However, after watching some of the episodes after half the season, I realized most of the episodes leading up to the finale were very strong and great episodes. I think I really hated the memory lapse thing and her trying to remember what happened. But once she found out, a great storyline picked up again. The family and Sloane dynamics really impressed me this time around.

I hope season 4 at the least keeps up with season 3's last few episodes.

I still think that episode in which she's with that "scientist" and she's trying to rmember the last three years is one of the best ever. :)

I, umm... missed Season 3. I missed one episode, then another, and I just decided to wait for the DVD! So, I'm on "Reunion" now, which is the third episode of the season. I hope to have them all done by next weekend. I'll videotape Alias on Wednesday.

I'm currently on "A Missing Link", the season's fourth episode. I don't exactly get how Marshall, Dixon, and Lauren never could tell that it was Sydney that killed that guy. It looked so much like her. Maybe they explain that soon (don't forget, this is my first viewing of Season 3).

Well, CTV is not airing Alias for me until Sunday afternoon. PERFECT! I am currently on "Breaking Point", the 8th episode of the third season. So far, I love the season. I expect it to get worse, since even JJ said it was a down year, but I'm digging it. Maybe it's because I get to see it all at once, but I definitely like it.

That might be hard for you, since you're missing three seasons of this show. It may be difficult to jump in now. Try your best, though, and maybe if you like it, you could buy the DVDs!

Anyone predicting the ratings???

I'm saying around 12-13 million viewers, following a 17 million pull for LOST.

Wow. That episode took the best aspects of the Superbowl episode (Garner in lingerie), added a dash of Mission Impossible (the whole train sequence and stealing of the sword), topped it off with some Kill Bill and blended to create a quality debut for Alias. To tell you the truth, it has been so long since last season ended that I honestly cannot remember much of what happened and who was betrayed by who etc... I'm glad that they didn't linger on any loose plot threads from that Rambaldi crap and instead, immediately focused on what was revealed in the cliffhanger ending. I really hope they can sort of start anew this season and put all of what was increasingly becoming convoluted nonsense to rest.

Honestly, I am really disappointed. The revelation about eh safety deposit bos was uneventful, as was the reason why.

I found this episide rather bland and bad, we been here and done this before.

I don't remember too much of Season 1 and 2 because it's been that long since I've seen them in such a short time span (2 seasons in 2 weeks) but I have to say this was a vast improvement over most, if not all, of season 3.

I don't like the new credits, I prefer the simpler ones and there was very little mystery and suspense to the episode. I called that Tamzaki was Vidik and that Irina was behind the 'hit' If that is to be believed. But there were some good light moments, mostly involving Marshall and I thought the episode was paced very well.

It's not the Alias of old, but it was still a very enjoyable 2 hrs.

I had spend the last week (my vacation to fanily and Vegas) catching up on the last half of season 3 on DVD and I had alot of questions and a new found respect for season 3.

I really don't know if there was anyone on these forums more excited to see this, and in that some may think I'm being biased, but I have still been watching and waiting for ALIAS the past 7 months.

I have alot of questions about the Season 3 finale (I watched it b4 the season 4 premeir) but since no one would probably know, I'll save it for later...

Now, Season 4.....

Not thoroughly, but QUITE disappointed. I was a bit bothered by just the new look, feel, and direction when it started revealing itself (one hell of an openeing thought), but nothing and I mean NOTHING can make up for the cheapest shot of the entire series and I don't know how I am going to recover from this.

Irina Derevko is dead.

I know negotiations for her to return went all sour but there was always reason to hope and still try and get her on the show. Plus, her character did great without her presence in Season 3... they made her return or at least character involvement inevtiable.

In my opinion, Lena Olin and what she brought to the show was the best thing that happened to Alias since it popped into J.J. abrams' mind. So, I took her death a little more personal than I should or most would.

What just makes it all go to hell is the fact that they want us to buy that she died because Jack killed her all when he found out she wanted Sydney dead. All throughout Season 2 we found out that Irina does care for her daughter if anything in the world and her safety and love was the only consistent thing she showed. I just took that as a load of bull and even a big grand Rambaldi explanation like she was protecting her from a graver death or something else won't make up for it...

Anyway, I really don't want to think of that anymore, It gets me really mad.

Here my thoughts on the premiere...
or more like questions and inquriies...

What the hell happened to Katya... last we saw Sydney shot her with a tranq or soemthing, not a real gun.

What the F*** happened to all that Rambaldi stuff? I mean Sloane said he just gave it up to the government. We don't even know what he found. It's very unconvincing.

It is obvious they didn't know where they were going with that Season 3 Cliffhanger and the way they decided to utilize it was a cheap shot, a stab in the heart of ALIAS.

My conclusion is that while it was not a bad opening and while I will of course continue watching Alias unquestionably, in trying to make the series more accessable to new viewers or start over or at least refresh itself, they abandoned what really sky-rocketed ALIAS' cult and popularity. The double life (and btw I hope they dont expect us to buy that Eric thinks she works at a bank) was the essence of Alias in the beginning yes, but it was the family affairs and Rambaldi that really kept the fans together. I know alot of fans are going to be disappointed.

Another complaint is that even though I hold a personal grudge for the Irina thing, I still think they handled it very awkwardly and unevenly. the writing was among the worst in all of the ALIAS series and I detest anyone who claims this was better than anything in Season 3.

It may seem like I am really angry at the premiere or direction and might abandon ALIAS, but none of it is true. I just love the show too much that I am overly critical. There is no way I will stop watching.... it's been too good to give up now.

Last notes: My wish for this season is to somehow destroy the Sydney and Vaugh relationship and severe it that it will never come up again and find her a new love interest, which will spice her personal as well as professional life. Bring back Will at the least and bring back Rambaldi (I am seriously thinking they might have dumped Rambaldi altogether, but we'll see).

In the season 3 finale they were worked up over finding what was called 'Rambaldi' and we didn't know if that was his body, his end-game, his work, his anything.... and they leave it at this. Without the sci-fi that connects and holds ALIAS together, I am afraid the show will fall apart. They opened a HUGE avenue to explore the Bristow/Derevko/Sloane family-rambaldi connection. They could have really made it into something great, butI know that's all down the drain and the sooner I get over it the sooner I will thoroughly enjoy the new ALIAS. the only problem that remains is that I don't think I can ever get over that. and when in hell did Jack find time to kill Derevko or moreso find out there was a hit on Sydney.

I don't know what to think now... maybe I'm rambling on because I'm tired.
I still think the first half of Season 3 was the worst phase in ALIAS, and the second half was one of its best, so there is still hope anything can happen.

Precisely the whole episode was predictable, it was bloody obvious he was Vidik and obvious Irina ordered the hit. And after witing so long the revelation is Jack had Irina killed, blah...this isi why Sydney was upset, after allher tiem in the CIA, I mean c'mon.

I want the old theme sogn and credits back, I don't like the new retooling.

Bring Will back now and dump Vaughn ASAP, his character is jsut so goddamn boring.

It's the first episode of the season, there are 20 more to resolve these issues, relax.

That's why I don't have a problem with Alias V2.0, they do want to make the show accessable to the new viewer, and it did, it got 16 million viewers, which is close to double last year's numbers. They might have 'abandonded' what made Alias have cult status (not popularity it was never uberpopular), but it's not like they haven't hit the reset button before.

Wow, hyperbole much?

It's the first episode! Part of the reason I like Alias is that it leaves questions unaswered and allows me to guess about certain things regarding the show. Would you like to have all your questions answered this episode and never be brought up in the future? I wouldn't, it wouldn't really give me an incentive to watch.

You seem to be thinking that because it wasn't mentioned in this one episode meant to hook new viewers that they have completely forgot about it and will never speak of it again. I think that's a pretty big leap to make, and am willing to give the show at least a few more episodes to see where it's going.

Also, with Alias I've learned never to take anything at face value. Everyone has lied to one another at some point in the series. Who's to say everyone isn't lying right now and that Irina is still alive, Sloane is still evil and the Rambaldi mystery is still forefront in everyone's mind.

For as upset as you are with "Authorized Personel Only" Raffiki, there are many others who were even more irate with the whole of Season 3 and their sentiments (and mine) were echoed when Vaughn said: "Last year sucked". If you feel this passionate about the loss of your Alias this may be a soothing read.

Well, detest me, because I found it to be the most satisfying episode since the season 2 finale.

I agree that this 'accessability' road they're taking sucks a little, but I'm willing to sacrifice a couple unresolved plot points (and like AgentX said, it's only the first episode) for better ratings. And did you guys SEE the ratings it got lost night!? :D

I agree with a lot of what you're saying, Raffiki, and I do think that last night's episode wasn't perfect. But as an introduction to a season that is supposedly returning to the conventions of season 1, it worked.

Well, for me at least.
