I've been thinking for a while that Spider-man 2 and Harry Potter were locks. I'd also give it to either I, Robot or Day After Tomorrow.

I haven't seen Sky Captain yet, but I don't think enough academy members have seen it either. It may get a nom, but not the win.

The Aviator has been getting lots of praise for its effects.

Spiderman 2 is pretty much a given.

But I think the third slot is up for grabs.

I, Robot, Sky Captain, or Day after Tomorrow.

Hopefully Harry Potter can get in there. Its visuals were probably the best from what I saw last year.

Am I the only one that thinks the tsunamis are the gonna help The Day After Tomorrow. I mean we did see real footage of pretty big waves crashing into the cities.

Here are my predictions, and I don't I'll change them.

1. The Aviator: It is the most buzzed film of the year. It is "the oscar movie" of the year and there is little doubt that this isn'y gonna sweep and win best picture. Now, this star-studded Hollywood omage also happens to have quite a few Visual effetcs and enough in quality and quantity to compete. So, I do believe 1 of the 3 movies in this category is gonna be a true oscar contender and not just a visually driven film.

2. Spider-Man 2: Because it was very good, beating the first in effects and I guess overall everything according to the mass public and critics, but most importantly because there will be almost no other place to award it or show their appreciation or its worthiness. So, this is gonna be the great movie, but not oscar type, so we'll give it this- slot.

3. the Day After Tomorrow: The third slot, I do firmly believe will be a strictl visually driven film, like DAT or Sky Captain. I think it will be DAT because it made significantly more money at the box office, more voters probably saw it and because I believe it had AMAZING visual effects (don't mind the story). I mean, the FX made up the lack of quality storytelling for me, personally. And a plus is the current situation in the Sri Lanka/Indonesia area.

I think anyone really cares about I, Robot. I mean, seriously does anyone care for it?

Sky Captain will be overshadowed by Day After Tomorrow. Plus if DAT is nominated, I know it's silly, but I don't think there will be two movies out of 3 nominated with the word 'tomorrow' in it.

Harry Potter stands as a good competitor because it's in the exact same category as Spider-Man 2. and because Spider-man 2 is what it is, it will overshadow Potter.

Lemony Snicket is in competition with Potter for the next sure nod. Why? Because even the bad reviews said they loved the look of the film and its presentation, they just thought the story and content was lacking in quality and substance. Now here is where Potter takes the edge. they say they like the "look" not the effects. They are referring to the art direction moreso than the visuals... but some might take the visuals they see on screen as effects...

So here is my ranking... (with percentage chance of being nominated)

1. The Aviator: 85%
2. Spider-Man 2: 80%
3. Day After Tomorrow: 75%
4. Harry Potter 3: 50%
5. Lemony Snicket: 45%
6. Sky Captain...: 35%
7. I, Robot: 15%
