Layla (Unplugged) - Eric Clapton I tried to give you consolation When your old man had let you down. Like a fool, I fell in love with you, Turned my whole world upside down. Layla, you've got me on my knees. Layla, I'm begging, darling please. Layla, darling won't you ease my worried mind.
I love the orginal, as in it you can hear how much Eric Clpaton loved Patty Boyd, do you know the story behind the song? torrino wrote: Master of Puppets - Metallica COME CRAWLING FASTER, OBEY YOUR MASTER! YOUR LIFE BURNS FASTER, OBEY YOUR MASTER! MASTER! MASTER OF PUPPETS I'M PULLING YOUR STRINGS...TWISTING YOUR MIND AND SMASHING YOUR DREAMS! BLINDED BY ME, YOU CAN'T SEE A THING. JUST CALL MY NAME, 'CAUSE I'LL HEAR YOU SCREEEEEAM! MASTER! MASTER!
This is the correct metallica song to have on your list. torrino wrote: Ruby Tuesday - The Rolling Stones She would never say where she came from Yesterday don't matter if it's gone While the sun is bright Or in the darkest night No one knows She comes and goes GOOOOODBYE. ROOOOOOOBY TUESDAY!
Sympathy for the Devil is their best song. torrino wrote: Total Eclipse of the Heart - Wedding Lounge Singer from "Old School" (Clean version by Bonnie Tyler) Turn around, every now and then I get a little bit lonely and you're never coming around. Turn around, every now and then I get a little bit tired of listening to the sound of my tears. Turn around, every now and then I get a little bit nervous that the best of all the years have gone by. Turn around, every now and then I get a little bit terrified, I see the fuckin' look in your eyes. Turn around bright eyes, every now and then I fall apart. Turn around bright eyes, fuckin' every now and then I fall apart. And I need you now tonight. And I fuckin' need you more than ever. And if you'll only hold me tight, we'll be holding on forever. And we'll only be making it right cause we'll never be wrong. Together we can take it to the end of the line. Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time. Shit, I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark. We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks. I really need you tonight. Forever's gonna start tonight. For-fuckin-ever's gonna start tonight. Once upon a time I was falling in love, but now I'm fuckin' falling apart. There's nothing I can say, A total eclipse of the fuckin' heart.
I am quite fond of the clean version of the song, but I loathe the poppy remake from the 90's. torrino wrote: Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain Can you tell a green field From a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? And did they get you to trade Your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange A walk on part in the war For a lead role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, year after year Running over the same old ground What have you found? The same old fears Wish you were here.
This was the right Pink Floyd to pick.

 Re: Mods' Top 100 Songs!
torrino wrote: Just like dolcevita did with the top 100 movies list, I'll kick off a second round of the "getting to know your fellow mods" phase with lists made up of our favorite songs. Zingaling and lovemerox will follow.
I'll start alphabetically, going from the numbers to Br-. Here's #1-10, with a lil' quote from the song. Bang Bang - Nancy Sinatra I was five and he was six We rode on horses made of sticks He wore black and I wore white He would always win the fight Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve 'Cause it's a bitter sweet symphony, that's life Try to make ends meet, try to find some money then you die I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down You know the one that takes you to the places where all the things meet, yeah
Sunday Bloody Sunday - U2 And it's true we are immune When fact is fiction and T.V. reality And today the millions cry We eat and drink while tomorrow they die The real battle just begun To claim the victory Jesus won On a Sunday bloody Sunday Sunday Bloody Sunday
Redemption Song - Bob Marley Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery; None but ourselves can free our mind. Wo! Have no fear for atomic energy, 'Cause none of them-a can-a stop-a the time. How long shall they kill our prophets, While we stand aside and look? Yes, some say it's just a part of it: We've got to fulfill the book.
Can I post my top 100 after them? That would be excellente!
Y'all are going to hate me when excerts from Eugene Onegin and The Tales of Hoffman make their appearance on this forum. Haha.
Ok, Bang Bang, I always thought was Cher until I watched Kill Bill. This Nancy song is very quickly rising to the top of my list as well. Excellent song, not just the lyrics, but the sort of wistfullness in her voice and the melody.
Bittersweet Symphony has weak lyrics, but is really one of the best songs I heard when I was in highschool. We used to record it off the radio and go running to it. But the four of us who did it were sprinters, and we'd get sent on 3 or 4 mile jogs. We'd be so dead at the end and would time our walkmans to finish with that song so that we could have cheesy images of the Nike sports commercials that used it flshing through our heads as we crawled down the last stretch to our school. Really gave me some extra energy.
Bloody sunday is one of their best songs...EVER. It was probably the first song I ever knew of theirs, and to this day I pretty much know it word for word.
Ah, Redemption Song, this will make my list as well. I HATE raggae, but this sond really isn't that. It just the most bittersweet simple song Marley ever did. i used to put it on repeat while painting and just listen to it about 20 times in a row. When he first dips down and asks "Won't you help me sing" I think I used to get all teary eyed.
Nice to see both Elvises and Ella up there. They will be on my list too, but now those particular songs.
edit* Torri, you should put your name into the thread so that everyone knows which MOD is hosting right now.

Uh, Zingy and LMR, do you guys mind if I cut you in line? I'm kind of excited to do this. I would offer up the excuse that its too tough for LMR to man the movie and song threads at the same time, but that would be a copout, and would render me in a false light of being considerate...heh. I just want to post my songs.

We all sung Redemption Song at my Confirmation service last May. It was our choice for the "Mi Chamocha" song (we had an interesting service - we go through all the prayers, and each one is followed with commentary on our parts. However, this made the service verrry long - 3 and a half hours, not including the ceremony/party). We got to chose the versions of the songs we wanted, so, naturally, when one of the teachers mentioned that Marley's Redemption Song was based on the "Mi Chamocha" rhythm, it was of cooourse our choice. We ended up singing the hebrew, and then following it up with the "won't you help me sing" part...
Sunday Bloody Sunday is their best song. "One" is another good one (one/one... )
Tee hee. The days of recording off the radio and listening to a cassette walkman...Okay, don't slap me. I'm not trying to imply you're old!
Next 10 up in a while...
And, I just HAD to mention the fact that...if my list isn't mainstream enough, well...you should reconsider that once dolce posts her's. I've never even heard of Eugene Onegin and The Tales of Hoffman!

#71-80
Ghettomusick - Outkast
Find, find a way Find a way to get out, wit out, hit out You dig in, dig out, you get out Ghettomusick, ghettomusick
Hit The Road Jack - Ray Charles
Woah, Woman, oh woman, don't treat me so mean You're the meanest old woman that I've ever seen I guess if you said so I'd have to pack my things and go!
Epic - Faith No More
You can touch it, smell it, taste it so sweet But it makes no difference cuz it knocks you off your feet You want it all but you can't have it It's cryin', bleedin', lying on the floor So you lay down on it and you do it some more You've got to share it, so you dare it Then you bare it and you tear it
Caring is Creepy - The Shins
It's a luscious mix of words and tricks that let us bet when you know we should fold on rocks i dreamt of where we'd stepped and the whole mess of roads we're now on
All Around the World or Myth of Fingerprints - Paul Simon
Over the mountain Down in the valley Lives a former talk-show host Everybody knows his name He says there's no doubt about it It was the myth of fingerprints I've seen them all and man They're all the same
Save Me - Aimee Mann
You look like A perfect fit For a girl in need Of a tourniquet But can you save me
Shadrach - The Beastie Boys
It's not how you play the game it's how you win it I cheat and steal and sin and I'm a cynic For those about to rock we salute you The dirty thoughts for dirty minds we contribute to I once was lost but now I'm found The music washes over and you're one with the sound Who shall inherit the earth the meek shall
The Scientist - Coldplay
Nobody said it was easy It's such a shame for us to part Nobody said it was easy No one ever said it would be this hard Oh take me back to the start
Cell Block Tango - Catherine Zeta-Jones and others (from "Chicago")
Now, I'm standing in the kitchen carvin' up the chicken for dinner, minding my own business, and in storms my husband Wilbur, in a jealous rage. "You been screwin' the milkman," he says. He was crazy and he kept screamin', "you been screwin the milkman." And then he ran into my knife. He ran into my knife ten times!
Scar Tissue - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Push me up against the wall Young Kentucky girl in a push-up bra Fallin' all over myself To lick your heart and taste your health 'cause With the birds I'll share This lonely view...

I've never even heard of Fox in the Snow.
And I love Simon, so I'd know. Heh. I even spent moi precious $70-ish to go to the S and G concert in '03. Twasn't the most exciting concert, but it was nice to see them. No one can understand the love for a guy who's, like, barely 5'3''. But, he's really the brains behind the duo. Garfunkel's got the voice, Simon's got the mind. And...I value lyrics much over the sound. The sound of S&G isn't great, but it's the lyrics that put 'em in my favorites list. And, there's another Simon and teh Funk song on the list...coming up.

Wow. You pick my favorite bands, but leastfavorite songs. Haha
I don't like Ghettomusik, but love Outcast.
Ray Charles's Hit the Road Jack is a good one.
Not sure if the Epic I have in mind is the same as yours.... lyrics seem faimilare.
Don't care for the shins
Excellent Paul Simon song, but I still like Live & Let Die Better *I heart James Bond*
Coldplay is good....
I hate Cell Block Tango. Of all songs from that stupid movie. I hate the movie, and especially that song. I like the one with the gun. Whatever that one is. She keeps repeating the word gun. lol. Other than that, blah!
Red Hot Chilli Peppers have done better, too
Meh, lots of so-so, bad, and one or two good songs, but nothing I would consider in my top 100 this time

I amdit, I a not fond of many songs on torrino's list. He has some good picks for the artists, but doesn't pick these artists' songs that I like (good examples are Rolling Stones, No Doubt, Eminem, Red Hot Chili Peppers etc.)
My favorite song from Torrino's list so far is probably Verve's Bittersweet Symphony
*waits for Ripper to bash it*

Torrino does have a pretty wimpy taste in music. No Lynyrd Skynyrd on there? Friggin Sweet Home Alabama, Freebird and Simple Man!

rusty, callate. ferme la busche. shut up.
Dude, it's 100 FAVORITE songs. Not 100 songs that you just wanna put on there to please Rusty Shackelford. These, and I can say this about the songs list (and not necessarily the movies), are my favorites, with a couple exceptions (used to try and cover a certain amount of artists, as I've said before...).
The fact that you like at least ten or so of these songs says a lot, ya know. Hell, Led Zeppelin's recorded over one hundred songs. What 'bout Rush? 300+? These numbers alone prove that there's LOTS to choose from, considering that Hard Rock/Classic Rock artists aren't the only ones who exist.
Instead of criticizing things you haven't heard, you should be asking about them. Ya know, showing interest in other people's tastes? Don't restrict yourself to one genre, because you'll find that in almost any genre, there's some band that's making kick-ass music. So, if you haven't heard a song, look it up! Download it! Hell, even blind buy an album! This goes for all lists! You'll eventually find some bands or artists in the process that'll make your ears say "mmmmm".
This is the exact reason why I'm calling my list TOO mainstream. I'm not giving you guys enough to choose from that you haven't already heard or know about. Artists like Aimee Mann and Wilco aren't popular, but they aren't unknown. They've got loyal fan bases, and, whilst both aren't "household names", people tend to recognize their names, even if they don't know what they sound like.

If you're into some awesome guitar solos then give Freebird a listen. Amazing song that always ranks high on all-time greatest rock lists.

I know, I know. No one likes Dashboard. I'm not a fan, either. It's just one of those songs that kinda gets stuck in your head and won't let go. Eventually, you get used to it and start gaining a liking for it.
