Post TV Shows for which it's time to go
What TV shows should be canceled either because they aren't getting sufficient ratings support or their quality has fallen off dramatically?

My List:

1. According to Jim/George Lopez - These ABC sitcoms are suffering both in quality and ratings; they're clearly past their prime and the only reason they may stick around is syndication money.

2. Scrubs - The ratings really don't justify a renewal, especially if they have to give Braff the reported pay raise of $350,000 per episode.

3. The Bachelor - Seriously, this show has never been entertaining and the ratings have fallen. The only explanation as to why it's still on is that it is cheap to produce.

4. The Unit - This used to be a quality military drama but now it has become progressively weird, capped by a truly wretched episode concerning voodoo rituals.

5. The War at Home - Most likely, this will be ending but the show which was never great, has turned horrid as of late as the writers seem to be phoning it in.

6.American Dad - The show has always been in the shadow of Family Guy for a reason as it just isn't very good.

7. The entire Law & Order series - They're all shoddy imitations of their former selves and the ratings, especially for the original entry, have really fallen.

8. Crossing Jordan - The ratings have gotten progressively worse, making it very likely the show won't be returning next fall.

9. My Name is Earl - Has become too kooky for its own good and approaches unwatchable territory all too often.

10. Identity - This is quite painful to watch and the ratings are less than what 1 vs. 100 received so I haven't a clue why NBC brought it back in the first place.

Your list?

As far as network TV goes... I primarily only watch ABC, so I wouldn't know about the quality on alot of other shows other than what I hear.

ABC
I agree that Lopez and Jim must go. The Bachelor has been on 9 seasons too many and What About Brian (though most probably not returning anyway) has been the biggest question mark in tv programming this year.

Actually... all of ABC's sitcoms can go. They don't seem to hyave a single successful one. They should push the hell out of Notes from the Underbelly and make it a half season show with back to back episodes every week (so 1 hour per week for 11 weeks) in the fall... unless of course it completely bombs in its new timeslot then we know there wont be a decent audience for it.

And October Road seems to be What About Brian 2.0 and it will fade qucikly so might as well let it go from now.

NBC
The original Law and Order can go. I'd say keep the other 2 or only the most successful one on the condition that they dont make any more to replace the old ones.

The Apprentice. Are you kidding me? Are they really gonna give this another go? As long as they keep renewing this show, they shouldn't be complaining that they are last in the ratings out of the 4 networks.

CBS
Get rid of every crime show and all shows that begin with "C"

I watch a lot of TV, but not too many weekly shows, so this list is small.

According to Jim - Good show, but a 3.2 rating on a network that isn't named CW or NBC is embarassing.

The Apprentice - I was never a big fan of the show (Interesting for seasons 1 and 3), but now that Carolyn and George are gone and are now replaced by the freakish Trump twins (His son just looks like an asshole), it's become overly Trump centric to the point of being unbearable. Plus the ratings suck. I also like how NBC just recently told Trump to stop refering to the show as the highest rated show on television. That's a good sign.

Survivor - The show hasn't been interesting since Season 2. How this continues to get ratings is beyond me.

Survivor and Ugly Betty.

Edit: Because they are killing the ratings of my favorite shows.

I love Scrubs, but it's time to put it out to pasture. This season has been very sub-par for Scrubs. The longer it goes on, the worse it will get.

Why should they get rid of some of the shows above if they are still getting good ratings. From the sound of the thread, it seems like the topic is more about shows that should be let go for a reason that the ratings arent too good. Why would they let go of CSI if they are still getting good ratings. Its understandable to let go of the Apprentice since the ratings arent even stellar at all and the reason they are keeping it is to please Trump. I would agree with some of the list The Bachelor, War at Home, and American Dad.Actually I agree with most of Joe's list since most arent ratings winner yet the networks keep them for one reason or another

American Dad rules, give it another chance.

Fox should kill off The War At Home and 'Till Death because they still use laugh tracks. Nobody is better than Fox at making great new shows, only to can them after their first season, so let's lose some of the crap now just in case there's a great one on the ropes next season.

I don't watch any shows on CBS.

Same with ABC, besides Lost.

NBC can cancel Law and Order because that show is horrifically boring. Just keep SVU around. The Apprentice and all their other awful reality show ideas can go too (The Wedding Crashers). Free up as many good places for Friday Night Lights as you can.

I'm basing my of ratings

ABC:
The Bachelor: Show has been declining for years and doesn't even hold 50% of its lead in Dancing with the Stars
George Lopez: awful ratings
According to Jim: awful ratings
Incase of Emergency: awful ratings
Notes from the Underbelly: Ratings feel by 2 million in the second half of the show and will die on wednesdays

NBC:
Thank God You're Here: Fell to 7 mil viewers in week 2
Dateline: Past its prime
Law & Order: CI: Ratings don't support the show anymore
Crossing Jordan: Show continues to decline in ratings
30 Rock: Ratings are horrible
Raines: Ratings dont justify the salary for Jeff
Apprentice: I used to love the show but its awful now.

CBS:
Ghost Whisperer: It gets the lowest ratings out of the 3 on friday, not close to home

FOX:
Drive: Can't even pull 6 million viewers and doesn't have very good critical response to keep it alive another year.
War At Home: Ratings suck
American Dad: could find a better show to hold on to the viewers of family guy

CW:
Whole Monday line up except Everyone Hates Chris
One Tree Hill: I mean come on
7th heaven: pretty simple really, it sucks and the ratings are horrible.
Verionica Mars: It had 3 seasons, thats enough

Jayhawk's post is like one big slap in the kisser.

According to Jim is number one on my list. Six seasons is more than enough for syndication.

So basically a lot of the networks should have nothing left to air?

Umm, Notes From The Underbelly had better ratings than all of ABC's sitcoms. It has the potential to be a solid performer but they're screwing it over by giving it a shitty lead-in on Wednesday nights in According To Jim. They'd be smart to fully back Notes From The Underbelly. I mean, What About Brian got crap ratings and they gave it a second season. Out of any sitcoms ABC has or will likely have in the future, this could certainly be one of the better performing ones.

CBS would be stupid to cancel Ghost Whisperer. It's always pulling in consistently solid ratings, even if it is the lowest rated of the Friday night shows. Still, the Friday night CBS shows rule the night, and getting rid of this one would be a joke. If something isn't broke, don't fix it.

notes of the underbelly fell 2 million viewers in its second half, there is no way it will be a solid performer. It will crash on wednesday nights. Notes of the underbelly doesnt have any critical acclaim either. I do agree that canceling something on friday for cbs is not smart but if they are going to cancel one it should be shost whisperer, not close to home.

As for nothing left on the air. Not true at all. ABC would have to fix the bachelor slot and wednesday nights. CBS doesnt need to fix anything. Fox has to fix 2 hours of programming. The CW nobody can argue needs tons of fixing and NBC is a disaster right now.

Jayhawk pretty much listed good reasons why the shows should be let go mainly due to it not appealing to its demograpic and low ratings while a few of you just said to cancel the shows because you dont like it yet the shows have stellar ratings

But Jayhawk, the show you have in your avatar and signature had pathetic ratings for about a year until it slowly started to get better. It wouldn't be around today if they hadn't kept it on just because it was good, despite the awful ratings.

Though in my own post above I didn't, of course, but it clearly wasn't a serious post.

your right my show sucked in ratings the first season and based on ratings should not have be renewed. But the head of nbc liked it so he renewed it, it got a solid lead in from My Name is Earl and now out delivers the show at times. I did keep some low rated shows i think should be kept such as Friday Night Lights, Scrubs, and Jericho. FNL has huge critical acclaim and pulled 8mil when i had heroes as a lead in, it also won a peabody. ABC has made it known that they would pick up Scrubs if NBC cancels it. If I was NBC I would hold on to it one more year to make sure ABC continues to falter. Also, Scrubs just recently won a peabody. Jericho I would keep because it pulled in a little over 8 million viewers and during the fall pulled in 10m. The show is starting to get some critical buzz as the show starts to turn towards a darker tone. If CBS is smart it holds it til midseason, let it run out of an established show for about 4 episodes and then move it to lead off a night.

The difference is The Office had critical acclaim and did great among the 18-49 demographics. Actually its in the top of the 18-49 demo. Its not like the ratings were so low like Arrested Development where they keep it on as a doormat. Heck Fox went 4 years with AD with no real improvement

And I do know the consequences of speaking out against Arrested Development since its a sacred cow in this forum. In a few mins, Ill be receiving heated comments to tell me to die or crawl back in the gutter

Arrested only lasted 2.5 seasons. But the reason Fox should have canceled it earlier is because they decided to completely mismanage it. They took a low rated show and lead off Monday night with it. That was really going to get it viewers. Not to mention the total lack of promotion.

As much as I love Scrubs, I can't help but agree with what people have said that, as evidenced by this season, the show may have taken the characters as far as they can go.

Either that or I'd say... bring back everybody who wrote season 5.

Ditto

Go bash According to Jim or some other crappy show, not Arrested Development, which never did anything to you.
