I don't remember the 8 Mile title song. I didn't like Lose Yourself, though.
And, you've heard Chameleon? AND Eva Cassidy's Say Goodbye (not her strongest, but I wanted to give Lennon props for Imagine and I already had enough Beatles/Simon and Garfunkel songs as it was, so Yesterday and Kathy's Song were outta the question)? Awesome! Cassidy best song is her cover of Fields of Gold.
I'm loving how I'm not the only one outside of Washingtonians who knows who Eva Cassidy is. Rod and Tim were familiar with her, too.
Her Fields of Gold cover puts the original to shame...which is what a cover SHOULD do.
Fields of Gold, Imagine, Yesterday, Kathy's Song, Blues in the Night, Drowning in The Sea of Love, It Don't Mean A Thing, I Know You By Heart, Wayfaring Stranger, and True Colors are other favorites. If only she were still around...

BTO is Bachman Turner Overdrive. It's the guys from The Guess Who who formed BTO. They're the ones who plays the song Taking Care of Business. But they have so many other great songs in their repetoire.

#61-70 (I think)
The list with the most songs rusty will approve of and/or know of...
Great Balls of Fire - Jerry Lee Lewis
I laughed at love cause I thought it was funny You came along and moooooved me honey I've changed my mind This love is fine Goodness gracious great balls of fire!
Layla (Unplugged) - Eric Clapton
I tried to give you consolation When your old man had let you down. Like a fool, I fell in love with you, Turned my whole world upside down. Layla, you've got me on my knees. Layla, I'm begging, darling please. Layla, darling won't you ease my worried mind.
Master of Puppets - Metallica
COME CRAWLING FASTER, OBEY YOUR MASTER! YOUR LIFE BURNS FASTER, OBEY YOUR MASTER! MASTER! MASTER OF PUPPETS I'M PULLING YOUR STRINGS...TWISTING YOUR MIND AND SMASHING YOUR DREAMS! BLINDED BY ME, YOU CAN'T SEE A THING. JUST CALL MY NAME, 'CAUSE I'LL HEAR YOU SCREEEEEAM! MASTER! MASTER!
Me and Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin
Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose, Nothing don't mean nothing honey if it ain't free, now now. And feeling good was easy, Lord, when he sang the blues, You know feeling good was good enough for me, Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee.
Proud Mary - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Big wheel keep on turning, Proud Mary keep on burning, Rolling, rolling, rolling on the river!
Ruby Tuesday - The Rolling Stones
She would never say where she came from Yesterday don't matter if it's gone While the sun is bright Or in the darkest night No one knows She comes and goes GOOOOODBYE. ROOOOOOOBY TUESDAY!
Tom Sawyer - Rush
Though his mind is not for rent Don't put him down as arrogant His reserve, a quiet defense Riding out the day's events! The river...
Total Eclipse of the Heart - Wedding Lounge Singer from "Old School" (Clean version by Bonnie Tyler)
Turn around, every now and then I get a little bit lonely and you're never coming around. Turn around, every now and then I get a little bit tired of listening to the sound of my tears. Turn around, every now and then I get a little bit nervous that the best of all the years have gone by. Turn around, every now and then I get a little bit terrified, I see the fuckin' look in your eyes. Turn around bright eyes, every now and then I fall apart. Turn around bright eyes, fuckin' every now and then I fall apart. And I need you now tonight. And I fuckin' need you more than ever. And if you'll only hold me tight, we'll be holding on forever. And we'll only be making it right cause we'll never be wrong. Together we can take it to the end of the line. Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time. Shit, I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark. We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks. I really need you tonight. Forever's gonna start tonight. For-fuckin-ever's gonna start tonight. Once upon a time I was falling in love, but now I'm fuckin' falling apart. There's nothing I can say, A total eclipse of the fuckin' heart.
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain Can you tell a green field From a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? And did they get you to trade Your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange A walk on part in the war For a lead role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here We're just two lost souls Swimming in a fish bowl, year after year Running over the same old ground What have you found? The same old fears Wish you were here.
You Never Give Me Your Money - The Beatles
Out of college money spent See no future, pay no rent All the money's gone, nowhere to go Any jobber got the sack Monday morning turning back Yellow lorry slow, nowhere to go But oh, that magic feeling Nowhere to go Oh, that magic feeling nowhere to go

A classic

Great version of Layla but I do prefer the original Derek & The Dominoes version over unplugged. Though unplugged is still awesome

Master of Puppets is an awesome song though ...And Justice for All and One overshadow this one in pure metallica-esque epic.
Tom Sawyer - Rush Though his mind is not for rent Don't put him down as arrogant His reserve, a quiet defense Riding out the day's events! The river...
Yes. Fucking right!!!!!!! Modern day warrior, mean mean stride, today's tom sawyer, mean mean pride

I've already covered the Derek and the Dominoes style with "Cocaine". It's similar to the original Layla...I think Eric's guitar playing is stronger in the unplugged version.

Erm. It just isn't a favorite. It's a cool song, but I'm not really into grunge or any of the newer rock (besides maybe Tool and a couple indie bands). I'd take Nine Inch Nails over Nirvana any day. Plus, the lyrics are waaaay too overrated. I've heard better stuff from Thom Yorke's mouth (now. let's face it, i love Radiohead, but, the lyrics suck )

It's been a while since I've heard the song and I don't remember it that much. But I did laugh my ass off from it. I prefer the the derek version because I'm not that huge into the whole acoustic thing. I prefer eric's electric guitar work. But then again I still love both versions of the song.
Nirvana sucks and are overrated. People say that it is Nirvana that killed off the hair metal scene but people tend to forgot that it was Axl Rose that put his hair down first and GnR's Appetite for Destruction started to bring rock & roll back into the music.

Well, the song itself isn't funny, but when put into context of the film with the older women dancing, it was funny as hell. Still, it's a great song.
Nirvana is overrated. But, I can't deny the effect they had on grunge/90s rock. But then again, most of that sucks . It's an above-average band, but they aren't worthy of MOI list! Hell, the band members aren't even that good instrumentally. I like the "Nevermind" cd and "Utero", but I don't worship them. I worship Eric Clapton.

I didn't necessarily mean Smells like Teen Spririt. They have other great ones too.
What about Rolling Stones' Paint it Black?

Smells Like Teen Spirit is my favorite Nirvana song, though.
I love Paint it Black. But, as I explained to rusty earlier, I wanted to make room for at LEAST 70 artists. And, Paint it Black narrowly missed the cut. I love Ruby Tuesday, Get Off My Cloud, and Miss You waaay too much. I guess Paint it Black and Miss You were tied for my third Stones spot, but Miss You is a song I can listen to in almost any situation. Also, Paint it Black is a standard on these lists anyways.

Fine. Be like that
Paint it Black is an awesome song, don't get me wrong. And it's worthy of this list. It just came down to cutting it down to several genres and representing a certain amount of artists/bands.
