Very good, though I'm not sure about deserving a BP nomination.

The Cider House is OK. It most certainly does not rule.

I think the fact that this was nominated for best picture is as bad as Shakespeare In Love winning.

Decent, but there were so many better movies of 1999. Michael Cane was brilliant, though.

One of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. Maguire is perfect in the lead role. Just watch the scene where he confronts Lindo with what he has done to his daughter. Also one of the few movies where the film is nearly as good as the book. A

Cider House Rules was boring and didn't come close to capturing the complexities of the novel.

World According to Garp remains the only half decent film adaptation of a John Irving book...

Pretty engaging, but not much stands out to make it an A level film. B.

It's a good movie, but it just pales in comparison to some other BP nominees in its year (like The Sixth Sense and American Beauty). Very well-acted all-around, but Caine didn't deserve that Oscar considering he was up against the superior works by Osment and Duncan. He was still great on his own as was Tobey Maguire and Charlize Theron has shown here for the first time really that she is quite a promising actress. The score is hauntingly beautiful, but the main storyline is quite simple and standard.
