Well, I've seen 14 movies this year so far, so my top 5 would be:

1. 300(A-)
2. Zodiac(B+)
3. Reign Over Me(B+)
4. Music And Lyrics(B+)
5. Bridge To Terabithia(B)

Only 300.

And even if I could nominate any film ever, I would still only nominate 300.

The Wind That Shakes The Barley is the only 2007 release close to Oscar quality i've seen thus far (althou i saw it in 2006)

I think a more interesting question would be if this were the cutoff date, and the films that opened so far in 2007 are the only films that can be considered, what films would the ACADEMY themselves nominate?

Peace,
Mike.

If this were the cut-off date for 2007, the Academy Awards would implode in on themselves.

Aka, five best movies of 2007 from January 1 through April 4?

Paprika
Black Snake Moan
300
Zodiac
The Lives of Others
(If this counts. Normally I'd put it with Oscar yr, but from what I can see it had no release last yr.)

Ran up by Fido, Reign Over Me and The Lookout

As fantastic as last year was, this year is starting out even better, I think. I'd call 11 out or 21 movies "good" or better.

lol. Zodiac seems worthy enough. They could just claim that the winner.

Peace,
Mike.

The Lives of Others would win both my vote and the Academys. I'd also nominate Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, Zodiac, Alpha Dog, and The Host. The Academy would probably also nominate Zodiac, The Namesake, Breach, and The Lookout.

Well, I've only seen four 2007 films so far, so here is my incomplete list of nominees:

300
Blades of Glory
Bridge to Terabithia
Zodiac

And of course, Zodiac comes away with the win.

Zodiac
The Lookout
Shooter
Blades of Glory
Wild Hogs

I'm glad it's only April. There have been a couple of surprises, but overall I'd say it's been a disappointing start. That saying, I'm not sure if anything will be able to top Zodiac. It's a shame though that it won't be remembered come next February.

300
Zodiac
Black Snake Moan
Bridge to Terabithia
Wild Hogs

I can only count the ones ive seen so:

The Lives of Others
300
Paris J'etaime

However Lives of Others won Best Foreign film in 06 so would have no chance this year.
