Zingy, I'm glad you're so excited about this film, but I have to tell you it would be the funniest thing ever if you saw it and hated it.

Movies like "Doom" should be grateful to those who spend hours bashing them for stupid and retarded reasons. When you finally walk into the theatre and watch them, the movies are not only better but your expectations are so low, you have a much more positive view of the film that it deserves to have. In the case of "Doom", it has something going for it that other standard shoot 'em ups don't these days. The film makers actually tried to provide us with a good product instead of just cashing in on hype and a fan base. Yes, times are sad when guys like me are happy just to see some effort poured into films and not take them for granted.

The movie hits the high gear about 5 minutes after it starts. After very quickly explaining to the entire audience about a travel portal between Earth and Mars and how an experiment in the Mars facility has gone horribly wrong, we're introduced to our team of bad asses lead by The Rock. The team is to go to Mars, assess the situation and make sure nothing harmful returns back to Earth.

Did I mention that the movie hits the high gear? I lied or at least, the statement is misleading. Doom is not your standard action movie. Most of the time, you will not even witness the good guys taking on the bad guys. They usually comprised of stray bullets or a teammate panicking under pressure. But most confrontations are short and sweet, adding a bit of realism to them. One such occurrence is probably one of the best fight sequences I've seen in recent memory.

But the lack of action allowed for a sense of urgency, and the characters on screen give off the feeling that there is always something happening. In its odd way, the story seems to move along. This is not only a good thing but a pleasant change. Each scene brings with it a share of suspense and tension which doesn't let up till the very end. There is usually a formula that is followed in films like this that allows you to predict who will die and what sequence they may fall in. There is nothing of the sort here. It is difficult here to determine who will die and when this may happen, which is great because you never know what will happen next.

There are certain elements about the film though, that are extremely inconsistent. Our characters are quite diverse, due to which, you may enjoy some but find the others to be terribly annoying. Karl Urban (AKA Hama from Lord of the Rings) puts in exceptionally good performance, symbolizing the heart of the entire team. The Rock, who I believe has all the potential in the world to become the next action star, makes his character of the sergeant more than believable. The same though, cannot be said about some of the other people.

The movie would have been a real winner if it wasn't for the FPS though. Sadly, at the end of the day, the entire first person shooter felt nothing more than a marketing gimmick. It felt too unrealistic even though the CGI was great, was probably the most boring moment in the movie. Its unfortunate because I can think of so many ways in which they could have made it more pleasant. Lets hope the idea does not die with Doom though. I hope that someone else will be brave enough to incorporate it and do a better job of its execution.

If you're a Doom fan, you're in for a treat. This is probably the best portrayal of a video game based movie I've come across. If you're there for just the action, you may be a tad disappointed. Don't think too much about the plot though. While I did not encounter any significant loop holes in the film, the story here isn't exactly Pulitzer worthy. Go for the fun. You might find yourself feeling a tad bit happy when you step out.

I'll make this simple and sweet.

If they had made the entire movie in first-person-shooter (FPS), then it might had been the all-time best action movie. The end of Doom was simply amazing, I just wish the rest of the movie was similar to it. The FPS was amazing, just like you were in the game. That sequence brought loud cheers from the crowd.

I think the ending is worth the price of admission.

I'll admit, when the movie started off, I was still in my super anticipation phase, but the first 30 minutes of the film are a little dragging. It had me worried about the rest of the film. After the first half, the movie started to pick up, and I was really into the film. And, by the end of the film, from the first-person mode to the "final fight," I was almost about to do a cartwheel down the aisle. The second half of Doom pretty much cancelled out the somewhat suspenseful, yet really uneventful first half in a huge way. I'm a huuuuge fan of the game (in fact - Doom was the first game I ever played on the computer, and I was sure hooked when I was 7). So, yeah, there were two things about the film that I wanted - an action-packed ride with "shit being blown up" and for the movie to properly represent one of my favorite video games ever. Both were accomplished, though the former could have been more exciting in the first half of the film. The first-person mode was AWESOME. For one, I'm glad it didn't last too long, otherwise it would have gotten annoying eventually. And, I'm also glad that they got rid of the "reeeeeloooad" that we heard in the trailer. The movie sold me in the final 20 minutes, though. The ending was just so... so... freakin' fantastic. The cast? Eh. The Rock was good in his role. Not the best acting we've seen from him, but for the role it was, he did it well. Karl Urban and super-hottie, Rosamund Pike, were also decent. Not that acting, story, and dialogue is important in this film, anyways. If not for the slightly boring first half, this film would have perfect (well, you know what I mean), but it was still friggin' awesome. A-

Sarge vs. Reaper was one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

I'm serious: Why isn't The Rock a major draw yet? The guy's a joy to watch on screen.

As for the movie, I'll keep it short and sweet: it's the movie Alien Vs. Predator wishes it was. Harmless fluff (though that "execute the family" argument was intense), but never boring. I'll rent it once it's out on DVD.

Solid B+. It's right up there with Stealth as the best bad movie of the year. It could've done without the stupid fights between Reaper and Sam, but they didn't matter at the end. It's slow to start, but so was Aliens. I think this might be even better on a second view, so hope the dvd is out soon.

This film is really something. At first, it had the makings of another AVP, another Alone in the Dark, or another The Cave. But, once you get past the first half hour or so, the film just takes you for a thrill ride, and doesn't let go. I was really impressed with the majority of the film, and I'll buy it on DVD in a heartbeat. The FPS was awesome, and despite feeling like it was just added on for the heck of it, it was a joy to watch for four minutes. The Rock is great, but he doesn't really stand out like he normally does. Too bad the film tanked.

Grade: B+ (Hurt mainly by the opening 30 minutes.)

This was a huge surprise!, I was expecting the worst piece of crap ever, but it was actually pretty entertaining, a little to stupid and the dialogue was horrible, some lines were laughable, but still good fun!

It's just some cheesy dumb fun. A lot of fun, actually. I still like the two Resident Evil films a whole lot kore than this Doom adaptation. I think they had some unused potential here. The Rock is good in his role, but I don't think that making him a villain, especially against someone as bland as Karl Urban was a good idea. The FPS sequence thankfully looked better on the big screen than I originally expected.

A lot of people say movies like this should be held to low standards. Therefore, if it's even remotely watchable, it'll get a seal of approval. Call me old fashioned, but NO.

Man, that was funny. This movie is so bad, words can't describe it. The 4-minute ego-shooter-scene has to be the most ridiculous ever banned on film. And then the final fight where they throw their weapons away so they can suckerpunch each other. I couldn't believe it. The special effects were bad as well. This movie is incredibly dumb, but - granted - it really is consistent at it.

Well, that was total shit. Not only was it terrible in all technical areas, it was also very boring. It was slow, and most of the shooting and fighting was a let-down. I just felt so...unengaged.

Two bright spots: FPS was awesome, and The Rock had some of the best swearing sprees that I've seen in some time. I don't think I've ever seen an actor yell "FUCK" better in my life.

Otherwise though, the movie just sucked.

I have to say that I was somewhat disappointed. The trailer and TV spots made a big deal about the action being all first-person shooter and how that's never been done in a movie before. The disappointing thing is that it's only done in one scene. What about the rest of the film? On top of that, the gore is subpar although there are a couple of nice shots.

Overall, a disappointment.

Yet another movie that wastes the talent of The Rock. If you want to be genuinely terrified then go play Doom 3 with surround sound in a darkened room and avoid this piece of junk.

Average first half, but it picks up and gets better as it goes along. I did think The Rock was wasted though. He was much better in The Rundown and Walking Tall.

Didn't like it much. It just didn't seem like Doom. Surely the whole point of Doom is that it mixes sci-fi with actual Hell? Where were the lost souls and big goat things?

The Doom film should've been sub-Alien sci-fi mixed with Hellraiser, but this only had half of the ingredients
