Since the date move, the only times "Limited in December, wide in January" has worked have been Million Dollar Baby, Munich and Letters from Iwo Jima, and those were from Spielberg and Eastwood. Burton is no Spielberg or Eastwood in the eyes of the Academy.
The movie will be a disaster anyway, so only techs for it.

And it just so happens that those three movies all happend to be in the past three years. It probably won't WIN anything because it may be too "werid" for the Academy, but Paramoutn must have some confidence that it can get some nominations, and it has a good chance at winning in the Golden Globes as it would be placed in the Comedy/Musical category.
Much like Dreamgirls.
I really just think the Academy just isn't too high on musicals after Chicago. The closest thing to a success has been Dreamgirls, and they weren't able to rally up enough support. Sweeney Todd might be able to get some Burton fans that think he's deserving of some sort of major recognition, but I don't think it'll get the reviews or box office needed.

A small move, but a smart one.
Honestly, though, can't Live Free or Die Hard very easily co-exist with Transformers, especially if W.O.M. is good?

I think Die Hard should actually move a week earlier against Evan Almighty which surprisingly still has the weekend generally to itself.
However, moving ahead two days is better than nothing.
Shame for Nanny Diaries as it was one of the stronger April titles. However, there has been no marketing so far so a September move isnt too bad. Maybe they can build up a mini Sweet Home Alabam type success.

Well, it's actually called 'The Happening'. It's Happening would be an even worse title...
Depending on the marketing, this could open anywhere from $10 to $40 million. I think a lot of people are turned off of Shyamalan now, but if this film looks great, it'll bring them in.

Wasn't "It's Happening" Sign's tagline, as well as a line from the film?

I think thats the perfect release date for The Happening. June isnt all that strong and that seems like a perfect time far enough away from the May films.

Didn't know that. I prefer It's Happening actually. But as you said in the cinema thread, The Green Effect would be better. And I think with Foxs marketing, this can do very well. This has MNS coming back in a dark film with Marky Mark. I think people will really be turned by the whole apoclaypse angle. I actually think this has sleeper potential as long as MNS delivers. If this is a great film, then its in the perfect spot to not only have a great opening but some really good legs.
I forgot it was Fox producing it. With their marketing, this has the potential to open decently. One of the reasons that The Village and Lady in the Water had such venomous WOM was the misleading marketing - Lady's especially, since WB really dropped the ball. This next one seems more like Signs, which opened huge, so, with some good marketing, a decently big opening isn't out of the question.

Thought:
Does anyone think we should make a new thread where the schedule actually gets updated?
No offense at all to Maverikk, it's just that he doesn't post a great deal anymore so the schedule doesn't really get updated. Anyone want to volunteer? Heh.

^Pros: Someone else can edit their own thread...This thread is getting unneccessarily long...be nice if it was short.
But a mod could just update the first post of this thread.
I'd happily update a new Release Date thread though.

Poor Rachel McAdams fans. She didn't appear in a 2006 movie and now, with Marriage delayed, she won't be in a 2007 one either.

Terrible spot for Rescue Dawn. Just stupid.
It would have been better off on the Adam Sandler Weekend or the Simpsons weekend.

No offense taken. Personally, it's a lot of work, and after the appreciation shown to me, I really can't recommend that it would be in anybody's best interest to go out of their way to do stuff like this for these forums, as it's really not worth it.
If I were to recommend somebody for the job, though, it would be you, Libs. You're on top of this stuff more than anybody else is here, and there were a few updates that you did in this thread when you were a mod.

I don't think so; her other movie, The Return, is still set for release in December.
And thanks Mav, I'll consider it I guess

Lindsay Lohan's new thriller I Know Who Killed Me opens July 27, 2007.
The Brothers Solomon has been bumped back a week to September 7, 2007.

Thats actually a perfect weekend for it. Never heard of it but I think it will do well as ive been complaining for a while about how weak that weekend is. Even if Simpsons is a moderate hit - there is really not much in that second half of July. Great move.

Another Will Ferell sports-comedy. Good spot for it, though it is jsut two weeks after John C. Rileys Walk Hard, and demand for a comedy may not be that high. But then again, its Ferrell so I'm sure people will be more willing to watch him than Riley. Probably will do Blades of Glory numbers.
Maybe they should stick with the end of March Blades spot?

Well, at the the 6/29/07 date is less crowded as two movies chickened out. And good thing too. They would by creamed by Willis and Pixar.
