i think people are giving 300 far less credit in the substance department than deserved. it had all these little subtle moments everywhere. it wasn't just 300 warriors fighting because thats what they do against a persian army that conquers for no reason whatsoever.

my grade has moved up to A++

That is the last word I would use to describe anything that happened in this movie.

Moments so subtle that they weren't even there? ;)

If this film turns out to be be what I think it is when I eventually see it I'm pretty sure i'll be ripping half the posters in the thread new arseholes.

I will say from watching the trailers that the opulent "OTT" style is completely in line with the Zoroastrianistic beliefs of the Persian empire at the time due to the Monasticist denial inherently present within it.

But i'll have to watch the whole film before making any more judgements.

hmm.....It's playing at Colorado Center IMAX. That's like 20 miles away, but I want to see it on that screen. Have not gone there since Matrix Reloaded.

watch the whole sequence again. unlike other films that spend time sending one guy one by one towards the good guy, the choreography of that scene depicted 2 guys in complete synchrony fighting hordes of people coming towards them simultaneously and the 2 fighting like they're on automatic .. without spending too much time analysying situations but working on instincts.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Hbl9HJOfAxA

Upon THIRD viewing now, I feel like that whole scene just felt like a hack-n-slash game where you keep pressing the 'A' button and you kill two dozen guys in five seconds.

Now, it is cool to watch but it ain't nothing amazing.

In a real fight, you learn to love the 'A' button.

Magnus is wrong on so many levels

I myself saw at least the A, B, X Y and even the left trigger pressed, that too in combinations.

Here's my review to end all reviews:

300- A+

I'm going to start out by saying that the visuals in the film are BEAUTIFUL, now, they may not be the best visuals in a movie ever, but they are beautiful, and you can not deny that. The film starts out with the story of how the Spartan army is formed and the story of a child whom becomes a man early in his childhood and becomes a leader for his people. From the brutal-ness from killing babies for not looking well, to the teaching of children to fight for their survival, the film shows us how passionate the Spartan nation is to protect their country. Which brings us to the basis of this story, patriotism. Throughout the film, every single character, besides the traitors, do what they think is best for their country. The army goes to war, the elders try to stop it, and the women try to support the soldiers. The story surrounding the war was immensely intriguing and held up very well throughout the entire film.

Now let's get to the war. If you know ANYTHING about the Spartans, it was their extremely simplistic form of fighting. The Phalanx? The GREATEST fighting formation ever, and yet all it is is protecting the soldier next to you. And since the Spartan soldiers were born to be soldiers, their fighting skills were far better than anyone's in the world. Thus when the battle actually begun, it looked as though it were a video game, but I disagree, they were so good that the invading soldiers were no match. Then why did they lose? Well, they were betrayed, as you saw. The fight scenes were well choreographed and provided every bit as much action as any war movie can.

The film provided a fine script and executed every seen to perfection.

So once again, 300 gets an A+ from me.[/b]

I will say, 300 has some of the best one-liners ever. I've already used "Tonight we dine in hell!" today.

My own personal favorite has to be "Give them nothing, take from them everything", though.

That petition was amusing. The advent of the internet has rendered activism an armchair sport.

I also liked Gorgo reusing Theron's skeezy line.
