Disappointing, stale, and incredibly cheesy. I was expecting much more, considering I usually love comic-book adaptations.

Good God what a complete mess this movie is. Some of the most cliched dialogue one is ever likely to hear for one thing, an couple that with plot events that make absolutely no sense (they blame Cage for carnage because they find his licence plate among the rubble!, talk about taking a wild stab) and main villains that look and sound like bad rejects from Lost Boys and your left with a film almost totally devoid of positive features. May it crash and burn fast.

You know what startles me about this movie, is the amount of cash thats rolling in for this crap. I have no faith in the box office anymore. Meanwhile, tomorrow I'm seeing Norbit.

this is one of the most laughable movies ever. Full of cliches, cheesy, bad CGI and boring as hell especially the "action scenes" ... seriously it was just awful.

I expected the worst but I was pleasently surprised. It was very entertaining all the way through and surprisingly funny in some parts. The action and effects were pretty solid too. And Eva Mendes really looked awesome. B

Rock bottom expectations certainly did help. It was entertaining in a doofy sort of way, but I always found it at least enjoyable even when I wasn't laughing at it (best part: When the useless water guy came out of the puddle and hissed.) And makeshift, it's not just that any beautiful women was showing off her cleavage, it's that Eva Mendes is one of those women whose so beautiful it almost hurts to look at her.

Side note: This was a very nice double feature with Hannibal Rising.

I kept asking myself whether the filmmakers and Cage were serious in doing this film, I can understand some intentional humor, but seriously... I felt like I was watching a really bad 80s tv movie adaptation. The camp factor was so much that it ceased to be fun, and that's impressive. And the CGI? Again, I think 80s tv movies were more advanced. With The Wicker Man and this, I'm beginning to think Nic Cage is just playing a joke on Hollywood... Intentionally look for the worst screenplays ever or what?

My favorite parts

Ghost Rider riding into a pond, then rising out and giving the cops the finger

The grunts, from when he was the rider, and the transformation

Cage refusing to give his soul back, and the devil merely replying "Arg, you'll payyyy for thisssss!!!"

Every word that came out of the villain character/the old wise man's lips... my god.

A zillion lines throughout the film that I wish IMDB had ready to quote

And oh yeah, Eva Mendes has great tits.

F

I can't believe the positive reaction in this thread this movie has gotten. Marvel just intentionally took a shit and released to the public, and they were completley aware in making it stink... and people are still eating it up! Camp ceases to be funny when the filmmakers are intentionally trying to make idiotic filmmaking, or at least that's what it looked like to me. It just becomes very sad.

So, who made you sit through Ghost Rider, Shack? ;)

How would you compare it to The Wicker Man(seen it yet? I know you said you wanted to)? Cause that has to be one of the funniest things I have ever seen. I want to rent GR only for Cage's "No! Not the bees!" transformation.

Haven't seen Wicker Man, I hope to someday though.

Oh yes, it's very goofy and campy and certainly nowhere near Marvel's classic adaptations, but it is really better than some give it credit for. It is a mindless comic adaptation which at the very least never bores and never comes across as a childish film. Those are both feats Fantastic Four could NOT achieve, so Ghost Rider was at least better than that one.

That said, it is not all it could have been. What annoyed me the most was how easily Ghost Rider could dispose of the presumably "cool" villains. I must admit that Blackheart's elemental sidekicks were actually very cool to watch and were interesting visual ideas, but they were used simply terribly in the movie and Ghost Rider just killed them off easily one by one. The vinal "showdown" between him and Blackheart was somewhat lame too...it just always seemed like all of them never were even a challenge to Rider. I also wish they had shown Blackheart's complete true shape for a moment and not just hinted at it from time to time.

Other than that, Cage seems to have a blast with the role and I always liked him, so that was good. Peter Fonda was rather awkward as the devil and Eva Mendes was just an eye candy in the film, no more, no less. This all is coming from someone who immensly enjoyed Daredevil (gave it an A-). Ghost Rider is about on par with Elektra and Blade: Trinity to me. I am looking forward to the sequel, though. I liked the visual style and with some better villains it could prove a lot of fun.

I don't know what to say. Part of me wants to like it for how cheesy it was. But, even at its cheesiest, it wasn't a good kind of cheese. It was more moldy that I was hoping.

The fact of the matter is, the tone of the movie suggests the movie was supposed to be serious with a little bit of that superhero humor. But, it's more humorous with a little bit of that superhero element. I like Nicolas Cage, and I don't know why. The last two movies I saw with him (the other being Weather Man) suggests he's an awful actor. But he's got a weird vibe that I like. With the right role (that he may already have, I haven't seen any Nic movies), he could be brilliant.

It doesn't help that we're supposed to believe Nic Cage and Eva Mendes are the same age (or close to it... I assume they suggest they're the same age with that awful story introduction in the first 15 minutes).

But what's good? The special effects. They're actually incredible. Long shots of Ghost Rider driving his motorcycle o' asskickery should never be a plus, but it is. Too bad that when Ghost Rider has his skull of fire, he's belting out shitty dialogue that makes you cringe.

I can't give this a good grade, knowing that even in a cheesy mood, I couldn't enjoy this movie. There are elements I enjoyed. I can only hope that Eva Mendes' breasts will be spun off into their own movie.

Grade: D+

Am I the only one who thought the visual effects sucked? His skull looked like 2-D animation.

There was definitely a lot of bad dialogue and some groan inducing scenes, but it kept me mildly entertained when I was watching it.

It's just one of those movies where the more I thought about it, the worse it got. There are a lot of plot holes, and I still can't figure out why the devil was such a complete wuss bag who couldn't do anything but stamp his cane on the ground and send his rider out to do the actual ass kicking. Shouldn't the devil be able to kick ass himself?

I think the thing that bugged me the most was that Nicholas Cage gets more hair every year. He's going to be Burt Reynolds in 5 more years.

All in all it felt like a B level movie that had a few A level stars. D+

Bleh. This was never really spectacularly bad, but it was also never really overly campy-entertaining-bad. It was just...bad. Eh.

Eva Mendes. It is a wonder that she still gets work.

Nick Cage... I'm done with him by now.

All that would be passible if there was...

- Any good action
- If Wes Bently and his band My Chemical Romance weren't the evil minions (their power was touching people and wearing very fashionable trenchcoats)
- If there were any good CG in this film... I strained to see any. I mean, Ghost Rider looked absolutely ridiculous and he's the main character
- If there was any dialog better than, "The thing about legends is... sometimes, they're true."

Don't get me wrong, Peter Fonda as Satan, Sam Elliot as an old man and Donald Logan as a retard... big thumbs up for me. Perhaps they should do a film with those three instead.
