Oscar voters reveal how they REALLY vote
http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20011925,00.html
These articles annoy me every year because a lot of it confirms the rotten ways of the Academy, from discriminating against comedy to not watching an entire film despite saying you watch ALL the nominees? But it's still a good educational read for the average Oscar watcher. Anyway, the run-down:
The Screenwriter
Best Picture: Little Miss Sunshine
Actor: Ryan Gosling
Actress: Kate Winslet
Original Screenplay: Little Miss Sunshine
Adapted Screenplay: Little Children
The Actor
Best Picture: Letters From Iwo Jima
Actor: Leonardo Dicaprio
Actress: Helen Mirren
Supporting Actor: Mark Wahlberg
Supporting Actress: Rinko Kikuchi
The Producer
Best Picture: Babel
Director: Martin Scorsese
Actor: Forest Whitaker
Actress: Helen Mirren

I pretty much agree with everything that screenwriter said. Even Little Children I don't have it among my favorites of the year because I find it a very hard film to love, but if I'm talking cinematic achievement in acting, writing, direction, etc., it's definitely definitely right up there.

The actor seemed like a real idiot.

Couldn't they have picked more representative people? I doubt many actors will vote like that guy

The screenwriter is a "former winner for Best Original Screenplay" and a "25-year Academy vet". Any guesses as to who (s)he could be?
btw, interesting that no one voted for The Departed for BP. Although the sample size is small, maybe there is an LA anti-Scorcese bias after all.

He eliminated the ballyhooed Pan's Labyrinth because ''I have trouble with children's fantasy movies. I turned it off about halfway through [the DVD].''
What a retard that screenwriter is.

I don't see the huge issue with that. Yeah, he didn't watch the entire film, but if he's at the point where he turns it off halfway through, even if he did see the whole thing there's no WAY he would vote for it, assuming he hated it enough not to watch it all. Unless you do something like not watch the film at all, or turn it off before William Hurt's role comes on in AHOV or something, it won't change the outcome at all.

This is the dumbest article I've ever read at EW.
And this is perhaps the dumbest quote to boot: "The Departed is a ''TV movie with a great cast,'' "
Why did they publish this...?

I'm going with Tom Schulman.

Great, the oscars are decided by a group of people who were dropped on their heads when they were children. Explains a lot actually.

What a retard that screenwriter is.
That quote got me too. A person like that should not be involved in cinema, in any way shape, or form. Thank God Pan's Labyrinth will be a classic by the time that guy will have bitten the dust.

I just read the article in the magazine and wanted to punch all of them. What smug, hideously rude people, honestly. Of course, if they weren't anonymous, they wouldn't have said half of that, probably.

The Departed is a TV movie with a great cast? What a bunch of twits.
Jack was miscast, Leo was miscast and Matt didn't know what he was doing there.
OK.

I'd rather Know the results of the voting to see how close or how far ahead someone has won. The presentation of these three voters shows they are just like everyone else with their own biases, stupid excuses and crazy choices.
