Ummm...it is all about US release dates. We are not the Academy who gets special screenings of actual foreign films. We can only nominate what has been out. All these movies were released in the US in 2005.

Batman Begins was a big shocker... as well as Match Point..
No Crash? Really?
I'd definitely vote for Proof for most overlooked right now, since it got zero noms at this (while Violence, Kiss Kiss, War of the Worlds and The Family Stone got 2 each, so they're not that overlooked)... The Upside of Anger is a close second..
EDIT: but I still need to see The Squid and the Whale..

one more thing: for me, the Overlooked Award is for something that got completely shut out.
So, please don't vote for Batman or something like that..
Examples:
- The Squid and the Whale
- Proof
- The Upside of Anger
- Syriana
- In Her Shoes
- Caché
- My Summer of Love
- Elizabethtown
...
Possible exception:
- Walk the Line

I know the first three only had 2005 runs here. 2046 was released here very late in 2005, but was already available on DVD formatted (for States) in 2004. They gotta work on that release date, it killed any theatre chance it had here. Have no idea about Old Boy, it didn't interest me.
I think its a decent line-up because it covers a wide range (not because I particularly liked 2046 and never saw Oldboy). But I really hope people that said they were disatisfied with the leads (Hustle and Downfall) take the next two weeks to check out Walk on Water and let us know what you think. Only a few people have seen it, but its quite good.

Wait....Wallace & Gromit ISN'T a comedy? Shit. What the hell was I laughing at, then? What is it? Crime drama? Action thriller? Hitchcockian suspense tale? Merchant Ivory-style weeper? Satire of class distinctions?
Some of you are silly.
I think Pride & Prejudice is grist for the overlooked mill. A wonderfully DESIGNED COMEDY, with an excellent SCREENPLAY, fun SCORE, and a rather superb job from DIRECTOR Joe Wright (Not bad for a story that's been REMADE so much, eh?)
My point, of course, is that Pride and Prejudice deserved far more than its middling Actress nomination, and is therefore most overlooked. Thank you.

Then again why are we surprised, you pretty much single-handedly attempted to crash last years awards, leading to the first of your many warnings. Can we please not have a repeat of that? Or is that just too much to ask.
Just FYI - But if you read the prior page, why don't you ask
- Lennier - started with a comment / joke or insult about me when I was never even posted in this thread. Not surprised as I have seen his BS before.
- Lecter - who of course had to quote it to laugh - yeah to all of those who say that he never starts a problem. Not surprised as I have seen his BS before.
- Torrino - who had to do the same - and comment. Not surprise as I have seen his BS before.
********************
Notice the 3 involved - I am not surprised - so why don't you point your questions to those.
********************
and all I asked lately was a simple question of where were the nominations posted which was also asked by others

whatever - last post as I am off to work

I don't remember when that was said, but if it was, you never asked for an intervention. You just said that if someone makes fun of someone else, that person can ask the site to intervine, but you never asked.
NICE JOB, POSTER G.

Bump for this year's show. I really think we had great nominees all around last time.

Yeah...
...I don't think we can ever top this year, both in surprise and overall quality. Say what you will about Match Point and Batman, but this was a varied, interesting ballot. Nothing like the Oscars.

And Amy Adams won!
I still love that, considering how Junebug didn't make any money.

From the counting so far, it definitely doesn't look as great as last year, IMO. Not necessarily because of a drop in quality since that's subjective, but a drop in variety. Some are voting for one film or even a set of films everywhere, like makeups in The Departed? (not that it's going to be nominated, but just an example).
Nonetheless, thanks for all the people who voted. Glad to see the participation.

Definitely.
A hint: With the same amount of ballots counted as last year (46), the top BP nominee has 94 points, compared with Brokeback Mountain's 68 points.
Last year, there was more variety. I don't know if it's because of a more exciting FYC thread or what, but...
Yeah, anyways. The awards will still be fun.

I was looking through this thread, and movies I watched this year, and was amazed by how terrible 2005 was next to 2006. Both quality, and nominations (though obviously I can't compare this years noms to last. Just wasn't too impressed by the noms in this thread.)

Just to clarify, as I just told The Torrtous:
It's not so much that I didn't like the nominations from last years show, cuz I did. Its much more a testament to how much I've loved this year - there's only MAYBE one movie/performance/tech from each category that would fit into my ballot this year.
Even more clearly, there's no way the noms this year are going to be identical to my ballot, so I could very well be saying the same thing next year, but I also looked at the films I watched last year and found the same situation.
