Gong Li wasn't that great in Miami Vice.

Miami Vice deserves a cinematography nom and likely a win. I doubt I'll see better camera work this year.

Disagree on the first count (she isn't outstanding, but strong and deserving for her overlooked career - from what little I have honestly seen from her). I'm not going to get passionate about this because I have a very fragmented view of her career and haven't seen but a handful of her films. Still, she's been getting praise long enough. I do agree she has little chance; this is just my personal choice.

And we've already agreed over the first... think Vice actually has a shot at a nomination?

A cinematography nomination? I think it has a shot given that this year is not heavy with film that will have astounding cinematography. Last year was overwhelming with The Constant Gardener, Geisha, BBM, The New World, Jarhead, March of the Penguins etc. This one looks weaker and let's face it, some of the shots in Miami Vice were so beautiful I'd just love to stare at them for a long time (waterfall, the speedboat in the open water...)

As for Li...I am not a fan of awarding people for lifetime achievements. Get a nom when you deserve it for a specific role. I don't think Li did (provided the compettiion won't utterly suck this year).
