Post Salma Hayek will announce Oscar Noms with Prez Sid Ganis
Sweet! She's so beautiful.

Salma Hayek to Join Academy President Sid Ganis for Oscar® Nominations

Beverly Hills, CA — Nominations for the 79th Academy Awards® will be announced Tuesday, January 23, by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Sid Ganis and Oscar-nominated actress and Academy member Salma Hayek.

Ganis and Hayek will unveil the nominations in 10 of the 24 award categories at a 5:30 a.m. news conference at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, where media representatives from around the world will be gathered. Nominations information for all categories will be distributed simultaneously to news media in attendance and via the Internet on the official Academy Awards Web site, http://www.oscar.com.

Hayek received a nomination for Best Actress in 2002 for her portrayal of Frida Kahlo in “Frida.” Hayek’s other film credits include “Ask the Dust,” “After the Sunset,” “Once upon a Time in Mexico,” “Dogma” and “Fools Rush In.”

Official screenings for Academy members of all pictures receiving nominations are scheduled to begin January 27 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills and at the Linwood Dunn Theater, located at Center for Motion Picture Study in Hollywood. Screenings in certain award categories also will be held in London, New York and San Francisco.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2006 will be presented on Sunday, February 25, 2007, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center®.

The Oscars® will be televised live by the ABC Television Network at 5 p.m. PST (8 p.m. EST), beginning with a half-hour red carpet arrivals segment, “The Road to the Oscars.”

I've gone off Hayek in recent years. She's never been quite as good or sexy as she was in From Dusk Til Dawn.

In other news, I've decided I'm boycotting this year's ceremony if Children of Men doesn't get any of the major nominations.

In related news, the stock prices of puke buckets will skyrocket if Babel wins anything this year.

Check back on Feb 26th.

What do you consider a "major" nomination? Because chances are Children of Men is getting a cinematography nomination at least, even if nothing else, and I consider cinematography a special award.

Peace,
Mike.

I think Salma was chosen so she may possibly, sexily say the following words:

"Alfonso Cuaron"
"Guillermo del Toro"
"Babel"
"Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu"
"Adriana Barraza"
"Mexico"
"Penelope Cruz"
"Volver"
"Pedro Almodovar"

...while hilariously butchering:

"Rinko Kikuchi"

You picked up on my ruse, Mike. Well done.

I was intentionally vague on what constitutes a major nomination so that I wouldn't have to actually boycott the awards. This way, when it only gets best grip work (in that poxy pre-Oscars sub-technical ceremony), I can still claim it got a major nomination. Thus allowing me to watch the Oscars.

I am absolutely addicted to Salma's voice and pronunciation. My mom and brother are sick of my constant imitations of her on Betty

So, I'm loving this announcement.

I read somewhere that Hayek won't be reading the female categories. Apparently that's how it goes: Sid Ganis, the President, does the female categories, and Hayek will do the male categories.

Peace,
Mike.

I guess she'll be Penelope's de facto cheerleader then.

That's easily my least favorite avatar on this forum.

So Snrub, what if Children of Men...

Doesn't get a single nomination?

You know, I was actually wondering how they were going to keep all these Spanish/Mexican names from being butchered...

Good choice, I say!

Anyone have a link to a video of the announcement?

I woke up 10 minutes too late and missed Salma.

On the right hand side there is a video link for the nominations. It will bring you to CNN's Pipeline, which is free today.

Peace,
Mike.

Mike, you're such a sweetheart.

Thanks for posting it. Really appreciate it.

Why was Salma about to cry when she announced Babel for Best Picture? Was it because of the ethnic thing of Babel or because Volver lost out on a Foreign Language nom (man, did she look confused after that category was all announced, lol).

Also, that Ugly Betty thing she did for Cruz' nomination was hillarious.

I thought she was really disappointed that Volver didn't get a Foreign Language nomination.

I don't know. Coulda been something else, I guess.

That's what it looked like to me too, but it wasn't overt, so it could have possibly just been an awkward pause. But I felt like she was just dealt a blow after the Foreign Language Film category having no Volver, and was trying to pull herself together to read the last one. The whole thing with Sid Ganis trying to comfort her after seemed to fit with that too (or maybe I'm just imagining things, heh).

Peace,
Mike.

I'm pretty sure she was crying (happily) when she announced Babel's Best Picture nomination, not because Volver missed out. I think I read something that Salma has known for Inarritu for a long time.

Makes me a little less sad for her if that's the case.

But still... kinda weird.
