You never even see Mandys face. I have no clue why they did it like that, I was thinking maybe they'd show her at the very end as a famous actress in a cameo, but I guess not.

Yeah I would think the same thing too. Did they forget to add a payoff or what?

Also? WTF happened to the Amanda Detmer character, Annie, Neil's wife? I know her scenes were probably cut... but still... she was like the 5th billed character. YOu only ended up hearing her screaming voice and running in the background hiding from Carl (which took what, 2 minutes?). You'd think she'll have at least a bigger scene where you actually see her interacting with other people.

I think the payoff for both of these characters was in not seeing them! Certainly worked for my sense of humor...

:hahaha:

A complete and utter disappointment. It looked so funny and it was anything but. It was just not a funny film and it could have been.

5/10

I was feeling generous. I was going to give this a C-. I really was! Then, we get a lame ending with Coldplay's Fix You in the background. What the hell is that?

The film is boring, the characters are unlikeable, the Dupree character has been done better in many other movies, and Michael Douglas is 0 for 2 in 2006 (The Sentinel got a D+). I actually like Owen Wilson, and he's not horrible here, but he's not even average. Matt Dillon didn't do much for me. Neither did Kate Hudson, despite a number of hot poses and such. But, when the lead actress appears in numerous scenes showing off her body, you know the movie has little else to offer.

Don't get me started on Seth Rogen, who was either terribly underused or most of his scenes were cut.

It's not funny when it's supposed to be, and it's not emotional when it's supposed to be (only "Anger Management" had a worse ending, and at least that was funny for most of its running time).

Grade: D

Rather unfunny and horribly written. Owen Wilson just kind of annoyed me as Dupree, Matt Dillon is not given an opportunity to do anything interesting with a character that alternates between bland and being a jerk, and Michael Douglas is lackluster. The only person from the film to emerge unscathed is Kate Hudson, who exhibits sunny, warm qualities despite the muck going on around her. C-

Boring, bland, uneven, unfunny, stupid, annoying...need I go on? Poorly written, poorly executed, and very dissapointing. It had a few funny moments here and there which saved it from complete disaster, barely. C

A very borderline movie, but in the end Owen Wilson made it watchable.... I thought his character was enjoyable. However, if you take him out of the movie, I think it would have sucked.

It was a little too long, and the over the top "wacky" ending at the office was idiotic, but besides that I was mildly amused throughout.

My Grade: C+

Mildly amusing. Owen Wilson makes for a likeable protagonist despite all his stupidity. I hated Kate Hudson's character, though. Matt Dillon was okay, Michael Douglas certainly wasted. I definitely wouldn't call this terrible. I did laugh several times and chuckled some more, but overall it was, as some have said, just too tame of an effort.

I agree. His character wouldn't have worked with too many other actors (Will Ferrell and Jack Black maybe). He's the reason why the film barely works.

Same grade.
