So any locks??

Other than Mirren.

I thought Hudson was a lock - but now im not so sure. Maybe Rinko???

DMC will win best effects.

I still think Forest Whitaker takes actor. Too much momentum.

The Queen got in Score and Costume Design. Glad to see the support is there. It's still a sleeper.

It has the third most noms with six. Nice.

And second among BP. If Sheen had gotten it, I would've called it a frontrunner now.

Only 5 noms for The Departed. Does feel a rather low number.

Whoever wins WGA Original wins BP?

So who wins SAG... Babel or Departed?

I'm getting the indication from these noms that the actors would go for Babel.

I do think that Best Picture is between The Departed and Babel now, with every other film having something against them from the noms.

Peace,
Mike.

Very happy that Iwo is gettign so muc love. It should be one of the nomianted films for sure. Very glad to see DiCaprio adn Honsou nominated, both were fantastic in the film. Babel's love, although expected, still makes me sick. I think Marty will win this year, but the picture is going to Babel, which will put me into a coma.

And don't for a second think that anything is a lock, esp when it comes to supporting, those are always the biggest surprises.

What does The Queen have? Sheen's been out for a while, so his snub isn't major.

I really think DiCaprio being nominated for Blood Diamond instead of Departed, hurts him.

It's just really retarded that he's not getting the oscar from the film he made with Marty, instead the one he made with Zwick

Is this the smallest overlap we've ever had between Best Picture and tech nominees? Everywhere I saw, like Cinematography, I saw all different names.

Besy Picture is undoubtedly between abel and The Departed. And man do I hate to say it, Babel might end up winning the damn thing.

No Nicholson for Supporting. No extra fatty noms. Leo in for BD and not The Departed. That shows weakness in the Departed's support.

Children of Men, in my opinion, really struck big too!!

It got Adapted Screenplay, Cinematography and Film Editing! That's a lot more than I had expected; I expected just a cinematography nod.

Peace,
Mike.

I agree that Murphy and Hudson are on shaky ground now. The question is, which supporting actress in a BP snubbee is JHud more like: Kate Hudson (lost) or Renee Zellweger (Won)? She's a LOT like the former (Newcomer, buzzed about), but can any of the nominees really gain momentum?

And I think Arkin can win S. Actor.

So if Babel wins then it wins

Picture
Screenplay
Score
Editing

and if Departed wins it wins

Picture
Director
Screenplay
Editing

Seems kind of hollow.

Another Reason Iwo Jima will not win Best Picture: It was not nominated for Editing. The last time a best picture did not get nominated for Editing was Ordinary People.

Same kinda thing happened just last year, andaroo. King Kong and Memoirs actually took home the most Oscars (all technical).

Peace,
Mike.

I think it helps him. Why nominate him for two performances when teh voting can get split? I think this gives him a great shot at winning. and I think his performance in BD was just a bit better than in Departed.
