Is this good?

Eragon has thrown me off from last week, I can't quite follow what they are supposed to be now... the numbers that is

It's fantastic. Eragon had an $8.7 million Friday. If Rocky gets that on Wed, it would probably translate to at least a $35+ million 5-day weekend, which is more than most predictions.

But Eragon opened on a Friday, so we may not see the comparison hold. However, even a $5 million Rocky Wednesday would meet most current expectations, and the likely $7-9 million Wed that we might see, if these Yahoo review numbers hold up, is great.

Read the thread, guys. The same question has been asked many, many times, and it has been correctly answered at least 3 times.

Yahoo is having serious glitches where they don't care about maintaining their normal ratings system. That is why we have recently created the written reviews system. That updates real-time, so we can still get useful info from it.

The average user grade depends upon the normal rating system. All day, there has been 1 rating. Probably the very first one, from some clown who didn't even see the movie and thought that a Sly comeback was the stupidest thing he's heard of, so he gave it an F. So Yahoo is only showing 1 rating and an F (for that 1 rating), but on the side, to those in the know, it has near-400 reviews.

Almost all of the reviews have been solid, and people are estimating it at an A/B range.

By sometime tomorrow, when Yahoo updates, the correct grade should be up.

Almost 400, with 5 hours to go! Fantastic!

Great job with the updates, Kenspy. You're usually pretty good with estimates, what kind of projections do you think these reviews would lead to?

if you just base it on last weeks ratio of 76 it would already be over 5mill....RT originally gave it a 40..bumped it to 55...i think its gonna be higher than that...but even at last weeks # with like you said 5hours still to go and the primetime showtimes just getting out or still playing on the east coast and just starting and have yet to start on the west coast...that # should rise quite a bit...

maybe 6.5-7.5mill for wed???

Pretty good estimate, Husker. I'm seeing higher numbers, but it looks like you're being conservative. I'd imagine that Eragon's fanboy base would be more prone to write Yahoo reviews than Rocky's older base. But we'll see. It's looking strong at whatever the ratio, it's just a question of how strong. We'll see how it plays out.

Im going with 8 million. Although the crowd reports on imdb may be a little biased, they seem pretty consistent with early shows average 40 and then later on around 60 and then 80% full to a few sellouts at night. And also the S. Cal shows seems to average the lowest too so I guess its very regional too

its at 580 now...yahoo has updated the average grade and its at a SOLID A-....even if its frontloaded for an opening night...the WOM should be excellent on this movie....god especially since its main demo is older adults who have to work on thursday and friday will be certain to spread the word at work how great this movie was....

Great point. Could work/school (for some) on Thursday and Friday actually help this movie? Crazy thought! But perhaps true, for an underrated performer that is getting rave reviews and super-strong WOM. Seeing a great 5-day for Rocky here. That, and Museum's 3-day should rule the box office in the $30's.

Rocky Balboa 510, +39, A-

I restored the link. Rocky is doing very well, and the grade is outstanding. I wouldn't be surprised to see another 70+ ratio, but even with 550 reviews (it should hopefully make it), that's about an $8M Friday. The fact that it was doing Trade Center numbers earlier was good when you consider that its primary demographic is far more likely to see this in the evening hours - not to mention that WTC's subject matter wasn't nearly as appealing as a feel-good franchise.

Well, I'll just tell you what I know. I went to the Queensway tonight, one of the larger theaters in Toronto. They had to move Rocky to the biggest theater as the afternoon shows were bigger than expected. The 7 sold out and so did the 9 and 10 pm shows. As for the film, it is damn near perfect. And crowd loved it. Clapping, cheering and a general good time had by all. I'm not good at this stuff like you guys, but I think it could do about 7 mill OD. This is the best script of the year and Stallone hit all the right notes. It should have great legs as well. With sold out reports at night and busy afternoons, what do you guys think the ceiling is?

Rocky Balboa 518, +8, A-

I have to work tomorrow, so I'm hitting the sack. Would one of you be kind enough to post the 2:30 EST and/or 3:30 EST (final) update? Thanks so much.

And we still have three updates to go, but I say $7M minimum for Rocky. The overall reviews are unclogged at 2300+, and that would be $10M even with a ridiculous 230 ratio.

I'm thinking 7 mill is a good number. It coudl do a bit more, or a bit less, but 6.5-8 seems right. What a great film as well. I can't believe he did it...he actually did it. He restored some dignity to the Rocky name. God-damn i love this film!! :shades:

Moving to Wed from Friday was probably one of the best three schedule changes of 2006 imo if Rocky does reach a good total in the end. Opening day to day with We Are Marshall would have diluted alot of the attention it might have got. This way, all the Rocky reviews came out earlier to build on the wom.

This might sound corny, but this movie makes you want to be a better man. Honestly. Rocky is all about heart. And it doesn't matter if you win or lose, but how hard you play. I am definitely going to see it again. I just feel like going running right now. It is a powerful film...very powerful.
