Babel, The Departed, Dreamgirls and Little Miss Sunshine have all gotten PGA, DGA and SAG Best Ensemble noms. All is left is the WGA, to see which films get all of the "magic four".
Peace,
Mike.

Excellent unexpected nomination for Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris! The direction in Little Miss Sunshine clearly made the movie more than the script did, imo.

Still thinking about how early I called Eastwood a dead duck in the face of Mav months ago, brief lapse to Iwo Jima predictions be damned.
What, I wanna be special too. :-(

btw, the DGA was supposedly not allowed to receive screeners, so Alfonso Cuaron could still get an Oscar nomination since his film was released late. Same with Clint Eastwood's Letters From Iwo Jima.

Still thinking about how I've been predicting forever that Babel isn't out of the race, and nobody believed me.
Peace,
Mike.

And there is still a nominee that you hate, just like last year, but at least you love more than one, so at least that's better.

There are some terrific calls all around. Hey, I was the first to claim Streep a lock in actress, a week before the film was released.

Anyone forseeing another 5/5 Director/Picture match? Very possible. But I hope not. That's so boring. Just boring enough to happen.

I don't care what year it is, if someone likes all 5 Best Picture nominees he or she needs to find a new approach. AMPAS has an uncontrollable compulsion to nominate shit that even they know blows.

Nah. That never happens two years in a row, and LMS is an ideal BD snubee, duo directors or not.
I say Eastwood takes the llone director slot. Maybe Cuaron or Del Toro.

I have a hard time seeing LMS's directors getting nominated as Oscar. DGA has many TV directors as members, and LMS certainly fits well with them, but with just academy directors voting and a lot of bigger names with well-reviewed films out there, it's still a hard climb for LMS.
Condon probably locked up a spot with this nom though.
Certainly nobody is challenging Scorsese both here and at Oscar.

Here's my fear: Oscar coverage has, in the last few years, reached new, unparalleled levels of invasiveness and quantity. There were no surprises last year. Thus far, there's been no surprises this year. I'm afraid we've ruined it.

It's so boring now. It1s a shame that there's no Clint, no Cuaron, no Greengrass, no Del Toro. It seems to be an easy ride now, but you can not write down Eastwood. He will make it. LMS won't get director nod. But Letters chances are very low now - unfortunately.

United 93 is just not a guild movie, and the others are seriously hurt by releasing late. October and November are all good release dates now; The Queen and The Departed show both small and big films can sustain their buzz for a couple of months as long as the film has the reviews (not merely good as Last King of Scotland is, but splendid, which both Children of Men and Pan's Labyrinth, as well as Letters, have).

A giant fuck you to Clint Eastwood. I'm happy.
I must say that I'm surprised Little Miss Sunshine will get nominated, I haven't believed in it at all up to this point... No light comedies ever make it, let alone light comedies with dual directors.
I think Greengrass has a better shot at that 5th BD nom than Eastwood, though Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris actually making it wouldn't surprise me either.
And oh I haven't been too special this year, but I did call Departed winning best picture first and Scorsese + Innaritu being the top 2 director contenders.

What's this Clint-bashing thing here? Why are you against Eastwood? Because he just made one of the greatest war movies of all time?

I feel so smart about predicting a Clint Eastwood snub! Yay, go me.
Also: Isn't Little Miss Sunshine's nomination rather unprecedented, considering the fact it has two directors? I think it has assumed "lock" status for a Best Picture nomination now.
Anyway, like last year, I'm seeing Best Picture match up perfectly with DGA, so we get: Babel, The Departed, Dreamgirls, Little Miss Sunshine and The Queen.

Also:
My god, some of you people complain.
Everybody's all "Wahhhhhhhhh I want some surprises!"
And then Clint Eastwood doesn't get nominated at all (even though some people were predicting him twice), and Little Miss Sunshine (which no one predicted for this) gets in instead, and everybody's still "Bleh. Wahhhhhhhhhhhh. Meh"
I mean, what did you want, people, a nomination for The Benchwarmers or something?

I'm maybe being a little harsh, but I was actually pretty darn surprised by these DGA nominations and it annoys the crap out of me to see some people going on and on and on about how much they hate the Oscars and how boring everything is and how terrible life is.

These things happen, especially with a large group of people. Sure, I'm a bit disappointed at the lack of love for Alfonso Cuaron, but I'm not going to cry and bellyache over it.
Although, I am happy for Little Miss Sunshine!

No Eastwood is surprising enough for one event. Imagine the "BORING" reactions if he was nominated.

Yay no Clint.
I'm hoping Cuaron sneaks in at the Oscars.
