The Directors Guild has selected Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu for "Babel," Bill Condon for "Dreamgirls," Martin Scorsese for "The Departed," Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris for "Litte Miss Sunshine" and Steven Frears for "The Queen" as nominees for its top feature directing award.
DGA president Michael Apted made the announcement Tuesday morning at guild headquarters in Hollywood. The winner, to be decided by voting among the 13,000 DGA members, will be announced Feb. 3 in ceremonies at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.
The winner of the DGA award will be a front-runner for the directing Oscar. The DGA winner and the Oscar winner have matched in 52 of the last 58 years, including last year when Ang Lee won both trophies for "Brokeback Mountain."
The nominees were chosen by DGA members from over 400 eligible films with a theatrical release in 2006.

LMS is a surprise. Did I hear at one point it wasn't even eligible for this? Or am I making that up?
And no Eastwood, which is an even bigger surprise.
But really, all I was asking for here was Greengrass, so... *sigh*

Awesome nominees! Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris! Looks like Little Miss Sunshine is in for Picture now, joining The Departed, Dreamgirls, The Queen, and Babel unless an upset happens. I don't know if they will get a Director nod at the Oscars (Which might go to Del Toro and also Condon could get snubbed), but picture looks likely with PGA, SAG and now DGA.
The winner will be Scorcese unless they feel he doesn't need another one since he won two years ago. It might go to Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.

Still think LMS will miss Best Director at Oscar, replacing by Eastwood or another late-surger, but the best picture lineup looks to be as secure as it gets.

Who didn't amke that up? That controversy with Sin City messed us all up, I think.
Once again, DGA is going 5/5. Bleh.

Oh, I must be thinking of PGA two years ago then. Scorsese takes this for sure.

I see this happening at the Oscars now:
BEST PICTURE
Babel
The Departed
Dreamgirls
Little Miss Sunshine
The Queen
BEST DIRECTOR
Martin Scorsese, The Departed
Stephen Frears, The Queen
Alejandro González Iñárritu, Babel
Bill Condon, Dreamgirls
Clint Eastwood, Letters from Iwo Jima OR a "Lone Great Director" that Oscars love to insert
Peace,
Mike.

I think it's clear who's winning.
I sure do!
You mean Gonzales, right?

Babel, The Departed, Dreamgirls and Little Miss Sunshine have all gotten PGA, DGA and SAG Best Ensemble noms. All is left is the WGA, to see which films get all of the "magic four".
Peace,
Mike.

Excellent unexpected nomination for Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris! The direction in Little Miss Sunshine clearly made the movie more than the script did, imo.

Still thinking about how early I called Eastwood a dead duck in the face of Mav months ago, brief lapse to Iwo Jima predictions be damned.
What, I wanna be special too. :-(
