Algren's version of Star Wars:
Sly STallone as Darth Vader: Yo OBI...You should not have come back. Yo I should broke your thumb last time wees met!!
Obi Wan: If you strike me down Darth, I will become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.
Darth: Now the circle is complete YO!! (kills ob wan and dances around his dead cloak...then raises his hands says "Yo Sidious I did IT!!!)

Broke my virginity to star wars originals by watching this on Sunday, and wow.
Who knew id like it so much? Maybe it was because they had updated it and made it all look pretty modern for the DVD boxset, but i dont care - i think the storytelling was pretty wonderful, it was exciting, fun and kept my attention throughout.
My only qualms were that annoying tin robot [which ive grown to love] and the way the film transitioned from scene to scene.
A/A-. Honestly surprised something so old could be so fantastic.

This is an excellent film. The Empire Strikes Back is not better.

A simple film that brilliantly genre bends between a space opera, a fantasy adventure, and. a samurai film.

Rewatching these before the new one comes out since I haven't seen the originals in about 15 years. I'm not a fan of this franchise and while this one is "fine" and I understand it was groundbreaking at the time it is fairly dull. Nothing really happens and Mark Hamill is frankly atrocious here.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
I also just started rewatching the older films in preparation for TFA and while there's a lot to like here on a technical level I was really surprised by the lack of action until the third act. Honestly, just like thompsoncory said it's pretty dull especially for the first 2/3rds and Mark Hamill's acting definitely isn't the strongest here either. Thank god for Han Solo and Darth Vader though because those two have some serious onscreen presence.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
Yeah, I once tried to get my niece to watch ANH, and she got so bored that we stopped the movie about twenty minutes in (she was... about 5 or 6 at the time). I then put on Phantom Menace, and if we hadn't had somewhere to go that evening, we would have finished it -- she LOVED it, and even now she can't stop talking about Jar Jar. So I guess Lucas definitely knew what he was doing when he said he wanted TPM to appeal to kids.
Now that my niece is a bit older, I'm going to be trying the OT again, the week of Christmas. She's super excited to see The Force Awakens (those Disney Channel ads are really doing their job well), and she wants to try watching the OT again now that she has better focus/attention span for movies.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
How does nothing happen? The death star plans are stolen, the jawas, the tusken raider attack, training with Obi Wan, Beru and Lars are dead, the Cantina, Han and Chewie, Greedo, Jabba (in the Special edition) escaping on the falcon...

Re: Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
There's not too much action in the first half. It's a slow build. But once the action starts the rebels are in constant danger for the rest of the movie. Until Cloud City really, where everyone gets a rest for about half a day.

I love this movie. Only complaint is the end X wing fight isn't as exciting as I remember.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope
I was never into Star Wars so its no surprise that I kept on avoiding a binge watch of this series but I am glad that I finally did it. I really appreciated the series this time (probably because I wanted to watch it) and it worked for me. I didn't hate the series before but I was never invested in characters and story. ANH is a great movie, some visuals are expectedly a little outdated now but the story specially in the second half works very well. Han Solo is great in here and brings heart to the movie. The first half's pacing is uneven and the world needed better introduction that what we get.
