I'm surprised how big A Beautiful Mind was, for a straight drama like that, that's impressive. Crowe was riding the Gladiator Oscar pretty strongly then.

Letters isn't doing so great in regards to box office. By January 13th, nomination closing time for the Oscars, it will likely still be below even $1 million at the box office.

Has that ever happened before in recent history? Just glancing at the numbers, it doesn't seem like it.

Peace,
Mike.

I also loved loved loved A Beautiful Mind

I remember it being a pretty big crowd pleaser that year, too.

The first trailer I ever saw for Letters was after I saw the movie ;)

After watching Letters, I saw its trailer 3 times in theatres. Are they building up to some kind of big release?

Unless I dig deeper (pre-1980), it seems impossible for such a low grossing film to win in today's climate.

85% of winners are either the top grossing or 2nd highest. So the writings on the wall.

*note to self, don't be near Loyal if this is proven wrong*

Well I don't often hope for your death loyal...

Anyway. No, Iwo Jima isn't out yet. Since it hasn't opened we'll have to see when it goes wide. Keep in mind that some of these BO numbers reflect the time of post nomination and post win.

Iwo Jima probably won't make less than The Queen, even if it doesn't get nominated.

Well it's chances are deteriorating anyway, so it may not be an issue.
