This was such a gem. I'm proud to say it led business it our theater this evening!

I gave it a B- I liked it a lot, but the ending was just off for me. I was left without a solid answer. I call this a "Caché". A great movie with an ending that leaves me wanting answers.

No, no, people only start liking it after the duo of loyal and dolce both give it high marks. loyal hasn't seen it yet. Until then, all reviews are mixed.

Why would they hate you? 2006 sucked.

Some will be confused, like me, since I thought there were a bunch of major movies (Children of Men, Venus, Notes on a Scandal) that you hadn't seen yet.

Why should those demand any more attention than the movies I did go see? Because marketing said they were more important? Because producers pushed them? Venus doesn't even look good anyways. True, I haven't seen Notes on a Scandal, and want to, but I need to draw the line somewhere. If I keep saying after the next movie, after the next movie, I'll never write this, heh.

Anywho, I refuse to watch Children of Men, which I mention in the article, and I'm pretty sure that will land me on the "very hated" instead of just "mildly hated" list of some people here.....

Just finished reading it I think you may have to hide for a while Galia Though I can understand how you could hate Casino Royal, thankfully (based from your review) I have only seen one previous 007 movie, so to me Bond is still Bond. I really enjoyed the movie. I thought that the Departed was too over the top.. it was okay for me. You got me interested in seeing Pan's Labyrinth and Half Nelson, though i'll wait until i can rent them.

I'm hoping to see Children of Men tomorrow, and I'll look at it a bit differently after reading your little rant.

Thank-you. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I tried to make it a coloourful read, and cover many aspects of my personal opinion towards 2006 movie/box office/critical reception to make the wrap-up more interesting.

An enjoyably angry read for the most part (I enjoy reading articles with the personal touch ) good stuff Dolce. Your reason for seeing Children of Men makes no real sense thou. The whole Pro-Life/Pro-Choice debate is completely irrelevent in the context of the whole world ending. I mean you can see that aspect if you look (yes I saw it also) but thats not what the story is about.

Have to agree with Gullimont on this one.

Oh and this comment confused me:

That sentence followed one which talked about the box office receipts and how they were up for the year, leading me to believe that when you say they struggled it was financially. I then figure this must be wrong and that you really mean they struggled to make solid installments critically to various franchises, but this is also a false statement.

The above really threw me.

My guess is that the above statement is your own opinion on how the franchises did in 2006, but that kind of writing really rubs me the wrong way. It took me several times reading that paragraph before I could move on, and even then I had a hard time trusting the rest of what you said. I guess it's because that paragraph comes off as a misrepresentation of facts, and thus it calls into question everything else.

I mean, I am all for you trouncing any and all the films made in 2006, but just because you didn't like them doesn't mean that you can say the year was rough on film fans as a whole because if you look at the numbers, the big franchise installments did very well critically and via fan rankings.

Casino Royal was a 95% on the RT scale and is the highest grossing bond film ever, and even Superman Returns which is one of the worst received franchise films graded out at a 76% at RT and a B on Yahoo!. So yeah, that really made it hard to take the article seriously, and if I didn't know and respect you as a writer I would have stopped right there.

Then again, I am probably a lot harsher than most in this regard due to a bunch of Journalism classes that have embedded in me a hatred for bias and misrepresentation of facts in writing.

Though I get your point, in how the birth was used by the various factions within the movie, I must say that I actually laughed out loud while reading that line in your article! That's a hilarious conception in the context of an extinction-facing species...

Otherwise, your list is quite good with two exceptions: imho, V for Vendetta was a very good film, while Half Nelson was only pretending to be a good film...
