Booooooring.

Except for the Iwo Jima snub. Innnnnteresting. Still, the DGA will nom him, and it won't make a difference.

And Babel continues its trek to an Oscar nom. :glare:

Meh. No surprising addition.

So which 4 will be the Oscar lineup? (Or will they go 5 for 5?)

I knew Iwo Jima just didn't fit the PGA's usual picks.

The PGA isn't the most important group though. DGA is the bigger one.

Peace,
Mike.

Oh, and I'm ready to say "I TOLD YOU ALL SO!". Babel has been getting EVERYTHING, and still everyone doubted me and the film.

Peace,
Mike.

Depending on how the DGA nominations go, I have a feeling Dreamgirls is vulnerable. Little Miss Sunshine is also very vulnerable...Letters and/or United 93 will replace one or both.

Wow. Little Miss Sunshine is a bit surprising. Glad to see it get a little boost. Babel steadily climbs into the #3 spot behind Departed and The Queen

Nothing surprising. The expected 5.

DGA is still the key, and it's crowded. Assuming Eastwood will replace LMS there, who else will be able to crack the other four? That's the question now.

I have a feeling United 93 will come up empty at these guilds.

Levy,
do you know of a website that has the info of what movies are finalists (elligible) in the technical categories like sound editing, make up, etc? I did look at oscar.com and .org but didn't find anything there.

Babel is showing amazing strength in this race.

I'm glad to see LMS up for PGA. It really needs every bit of Guilds support it can get. It'll miss out for Director so PGA and SAG are essential to keep it in the running for a nomination.

But with support for both, it's getting harder for me to predict which one will get in. With not-so-impressive box office, I'm actually beginning to think Eastwood may be left with no BP nominee at all and this could be the final line-up.

Hello! Remember the Crash comparisons I made months ago? :shades:

I always thought it was a lock for a nom, and I still don't think it'll win, but don't be too shocked if that happens - afterall, it might turn out to be the movie with the most noms, right? I see: Picture, Director, Sup. Actor, Sup. Actress (x2?), Screenplay, Score, Editing and possibly Cinematography and Sound.. that's 7-10 right there

EDIT: Well, there's that old box-office rule... Babel looks like it'll finish its run with 30-40 million, which doesn't seem to be enough to pull a surprise win ala Crash, anyway...

I'm no Levy, but... lol

The only categories they've announced for the bakeoffs are Visual Effects and Song.

Thanks Christian, I did ask Levy because he usually gets that info first. But many thanks for your help too.

It is actually pretty late for the Makeup to announce their selections. Also, Sound Editing now has 5 nominees, so I don't know how the rules have changed.

Aha I found a previous post I made:

COME ON MAKEUP AND VISUAL EFFECTS... follow suit!

Thanks. Now another question. Like last year will Sound Editing, Visual FX and Make Up have just 3 contenders? And song, will it have 3 too like last year or will it be 5 again like it always was?

Sound Editing will have 5 nominees starting this year. Makeup and FX will only have 3 (4 in case of a tie). Best Song has a new grading system and songs that get a grade of 8.5 (or something) and above from the music branch will get nominated. Inexplicably, only 3 got that score last year. I don't know if they tweaked the rules any further... they should just at least get the top 5 highest scoring songs. If not, what will happen is one year will get 3, next will get 4 nominees... it will be inconsistent.

After knowing the PGA results, these are my DGA Predictions:

Martin Scorsese, The Departed
Alejandro González Iñárritu, Babel
Stephen Fears, The Queen
Clint Eastwood, Letters from Iwo Jima
Bill Condon, Dreamgirls

Alt. Paul Greengrass, United 93
Alt 2. Alfonso Cuaron, Children of Men

Peace,
Mike.

Pretty much expected.

At this point, I am confident in Oscar noms for Departed, Little Miss Sunshine, Dreamgirls and The Queen. The last spot is between Babel/U93/Iwo Jima, imo. I'm leaning towards Babel at the moment.

No, not the most. Not even close to the most.

Hope this PGA nom for Dreamgirls quiets a few people.

Hope again :hahaha:
