Has anyone mentioned Dreamgirls ranks as the 10th best Christmas Day number of all time, and the 9 ahead of it were all on over 2,400 theaters? Unbelievable.

Don't get me wrong, I love CHILDREN OF MEN, in my book the best and most innovative movie since MATRIX, but I wouldn't call COM a big hit in the UK.
It grossed 4.8m Pounds and it was ranked 41st in the 2006 charts last weekend. Just for comparison: The 41st biggest US-hit of 2006 is currently POSEIDON...

"Rocky," the sixth installment of the boxing franchise starring sexagenarian Sylvester Stallone, was far from a sure thing in the eyes of most industry observers. But audiences have welcomed back the former champ since its midweek opening. Surprisingly, according to MGM, 70% of those moviegoers were younger than 34."
70% of the audience was under 34??????????????????? Rocky's main problem was getting younger audiences interested, as if the reviews were there, older audiences would eventually come back I think, but that 70% is quite a good sign for its overall appeal outside of the obvious demos.

If there's any chance that Rocky can get to $100 m, that would be the best finish for the year eva! (That, and Museum getting to $200 m +, and Happyness doing $150 m +)...

like i said we were busy just not all that busy with this film.... the mass crowds for dreamgirls probably scared away the type of folk that wanted to come see Children...

Unbelievable for Dreamgirls! It should have a tremendous weekend ahead. The bigger question is - how frontloaded will Black Christmas be? I can see yesterday being the biggest day it has for the entire run.

I think there's no way to spin a profit. ...it hasn't really made a profit yet. It pulled in...$27 million? On a $24 million budget. So, the studio should get back around $22 million roughly. Add in prints and marketing and it should pull a profit in a few weeks (long before it hits DVD).

I agree with BKB in the sense that a lot of people expected it to do better recently, thus making it a semi-disappointment, but he's interpreting it to be some kind of bomb or something. And that's stupid. But grandpa BKB still lives in 1981.

Speaking of flops, I'm still thinking five years later of what happened to MBFGW to cause it to disappoint so massively. It should have been able to top Titanic, but didn't!

Here's an interesting fact that I just realized. If Museum or something else doesn't pass $200 m and finishes #6 of the year or under, this will be the first year in the past 26 years that the top 5 films for the year all came from the summer! I can only find info up to 1980. In 1989, 1994, 1996, and 1998, the top 3 has come from the summer months, but this would be the first time that the top 5 all came from the summer.

And noone else wants to note that Rocky and Pursuit both increased over 140% on christmas Day, Shepherd and NATM were both around 100%.
