No, during the day should be the time that CHWEB does better and ERAGN does worse. Moms taking young kids to see CHWEB would be a daytime thing, while ERAGN's audience should be in school until now (ET). So these early reports are hugely favorable to ERAGN and PRHAP (most of its audience not expected to come until evening) and unfavorable to CHWEB.

And of course you can't tell anything exactly, until Saturday's numbers come in. But if that's all you want, just wait for the numbers. No one's trying to give exact figures here, just point to the direction and give early estimates. It's fun, it's what we do, it's doable, and this is the way it looks like they're going.

I think we all agree with this. But can anyone explain why Eragon is kicking so much butt, while Charlotte is so quiet you can hear the birds chirping? It was supposed to be a race between these two. And the big Eragon Friday edge over Charlotte is supposed to be in the late afternoon and evening, not the daytime.

It's supposed to be a race in terms of box-office numbers, not in terms of Yahoo votes. Charlotte's Web should be compared to other films of its genre (like other kids films in December), not how well it's doing compared to Eragon and Pursuit.

For one, Eragon had midnight showings and also appeals to a higher age as well as its genre is more popular among online reviewers. You can't tell just by looking solely at the numbers how each is doing, you have to examnine the other factors.

Though the crowd reports thus far seem to confirm the numbers that Charlotte's Web is struggling thus far... however, never underestimated the strength of a kid flick's weekend multiplier!

If Charlotte's Web does end up opening with $15M or so, I can't wait to see the great flock of people declaring it to be a huge flop and BLAH BLAH BLAH

Yeah, it is definately underperforming to a lot of early expectations but it should have a healthy Saturday increase as well as very, very good legs.

Anyone who has been following box office trends for the last few years knows the power of the two week period that includes both Christmas and New Years... Charlotte could easily top 150 million even if it opens with about 16 million.

Well it's potential versus performance that would be the flop. $15m is pretty average for a kid's flick, but when you take one of the top kid's books of all time and bring together an all-star cast, you're expected to open it a lot bigger than average.

Also Stuart Little did 15 mill 7 years ago in 700 less theaters. Adjusting for inflation and more theaters, CHWEB would be doing a lot less in a head-to-head comparison.

I do agree that the legs will be awesome, but that doesn't really mitigate that the movie didn't live up to its potential in its opening weekend. I predicted $19.5m -> $160m on BOM (as far as a "leggy" prediction).

And ERAGON is doing good at boxoffice. I went tonight to one of the theatre just to see how things are going and 80% of the tickets of 7:00 PM show was sold.

and the show after that was also 70 % full.

I guess it will do just fine at boxoffice.

My only complaint is Stuart Little had very little competition. Stuart Looked like the family film of the christmas season, Night of the Museum looks more likely to take in the bigger crowds.

I dont think 100 million is out of the question, but I wouldnt be at all suprised if it came up short.

Looking good for Eragon so far...not so much for Charlotte...ouch.

Early projections using written-only ratios (very limited data to go by):

Eragon: $12M - $14M (ratio of 45-55)
The Pursuit of Happyness: $6.0M - $8.0M (ratio of 15-20)
Charlotte's Web: $2.7M - $3.2M (Ratio of 7 or 8)

The written ratios will one day be very accurate, IMO. For now, it's definitely ballpark figures.
