Forgot about The Good Shepard. Went and looked up theatre estimates for this weekend, and both Shepard and Marshalls are opening north of 2000 theatres, while Rocky and Museum are both opening north of 3,000 theatres! Thats not to mention that Pursuit is not going to shed theatres (if anything it'll try to add 200 or so). Where are all these theatres coming from. The two kids movies sititng in the top ten aren't going to be dropping massive theatre numbers either.

I also Predict that Eragon and Charllotes Web will get cut hard. Those Two are dead!

It's actually below avg for this time of year.

The Pursuit of Happyness 2,852
Eragon 3,020
Charlotte's Web
Rocky Balboa 3,000
The Good Shepherd 2,000+
Night at the Museum 3,600+
We Are Marshall 2,400+
Black Christmas 1,000
Dreamgirls 800

18,672

This is for the last two weekends of Dec.

Last year was this:

King Kong 3,568
The Family Stone 2,466
Fun with Dick and Jane 3,056
Cheaper by the Dozen 2 3,175
Memoirs of a Geisha 1,547
The Ringer 1,829
Munich 532
Rumor Has It 2,815
Syriana 1,725 -
Wolf Creek 1,749
Brokeback Mountain 217
The Producers 975

23,654

9 of the top 14 films last year were opening/expanding. This time of year just really expands. This weekend, its more like 6 films this weekend will be expanding or opening, so it isn't as crowded this year as it was last year. Granted, my #'s on holdovers, aren't accounted for, and I'm sure I made some numerical mistakes, but overall, this weekend has been able to take alot more.

As for theaters drops, my bet is on Happy Feet losing quite a bit (even with its good performance, holding on to 3000 + theaters for 6 weeks is a long time in movie years), Unaccompanied Minors, Deja Vu, and Deck The Halls. Last year there were 8 films to lose 585 theaters or more, so its going to be tough for holdovers.

we got tons of room for films... the big places that have 16 + screens are having no problem carrying the product.

last year was worse.. you had Narnia that needed 3-4 screens, Kong that needed 3-4, Dick and Jane was on 2-3...

this year the most anything seems to be getting is 2 screens so there is tons of room to keep movies from 3 or 4 weeks ago

I only feel sorry for the 8 screen theatres...

Screen counts are relatively low.
