A consideration poster with the climactic battle scene shown prominently would have been nice.

It could even have its own "polite" message.
Nominate Children of Men or we'll drive this Tank over you're car.

It got nominated for British Film, Director and Best Newcomer (Clare-Hope Ashitey).
Time to celebrate.
Peace, Mike.
That's the lamest excuse for a celebration I've ever heard. And I've been known to crack open the bubbly after an successfully uneventful shit.
Not only are the London Film Critics utterly insignificant, but to add insult to injury, Children of Men wasn't even in their Best Picture category - merely Best British Picture - which, as we all know, means nothing. A travesty.
Its Oscar chances are looking slimmer day-by-day... but still, I hold out hope. And why? Because I love this film. And because I had a successfully uneventful shit earlier (my 365th in 365 days), and, as a result, I'm pretty drunk from copius amounts of bubbly. Children of Men... huzzah!

I'm afraid you'll have to revoke my honorary member position. It's out of my top 10.

In other news, I just sat my mum and step-dad down to watch it, almost certain they'd love it... and much to my chagrin, they were non-plussed. The dicks. I wish my mum had never been born. She can join Jon in the enemy list.

There is no feeling worse in this world than when I see something that I absolutely love, and when I show it to my dad, hoping that he'll feel the same way, he ends up being completely unenthused about it. I remember buying Volume 4 of Futurama on DVD, and anxiously showing my dad "Jurassic Bark" in hopes that maybe he would get teared up over the ending. And you know what he did? He laughs at the ending! The fucker. I couldn't even believe it. My respect hit a zero for him.

My dad's favorite film is Rocket Man.
So I won't be showing him Children of Men and expecting much.
We had a civil argument over Seabiscuit today, he says "this should have won all of the awards" and me being a nerd of course said "Over Return of the King, Mystic River, Master and Commander and Lost in Translation?!?!"...
sigh.

I've had that happen as well. I almost hoard my favourite films now in case a family member see's one and isn't impressed. I get incredibly angry when that occurs.

How the hell does Seabiscuit come up in discussion?

CoM is officially Kris's #2 film of 2006. Well, technically #3, but you'll see:

It's now at 92% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. A figure I expect to rise even further as it nears release.
Is it too early to say that this might turn out to be the best reviewed film of the year? No. No it's not.
Could the best reviewed (and plain ol' best) film of the year be ignored come Oscar time? No. No it won't.
