The holiday season is upon us, and for the box-office, that usually means at least one fantasy film, one chick flick, a couple of kid’s flicks and a bunch of Oscar films battling it out for the audiences. Like “The Lord of the Rings” series and “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe” from the past few years, “Eragon” is another fantasy book adaptation making its way to the big screen, although its popularity pales in comparison to the others mentioned. With not even a third the hype “Narnia” or “Rings” received and a really late marketing push, will “Eragon” break out? Here are the box-office prospects.

Night at the Museum will be the big film of the month. We're just spoiled with Narnia and Kong last year.

Night at the museum is a 100% family movie.. I found it to be okay only, but I can see children going crazy and it's somewhat educational so parents will think they're all cultured and stuff to bring their kids to see it and might spread the word.

Great Analysis... to bad i'm not seeing Eragon tomorrow :'(

Yes I think by the sheer number of films being released that the money will be spread this December. However, Musuem looks like it could lead the pack with $180-$220m. Rocky, Marshall, Charlottte, Eragon, Pursuit of Happyness, Shephard could all do between $80-$130m.

Not that this is really a surprise, but Eragon is getting ghastly reviews so far.

I noticed that too. What's the official stance on bad reviews affecting a movie's OW? I know Da Vinci Code got bad reviews too but still seemed to pull out a great OW.

Will reviews matter less for a PG movie aimed at kids and teens?

Yeah, mm. Hard to say.

But...11% at Rotten Tomatoes with 18 reviews? Kinddddd of not promising.

Whereas Charlotte's Web is sitting pretty, with 90% and 29 reviews.

A movie like this reviews don't really matter too much, at least not with OW. Now it could get awful WOM.

Do young teens and pre-teens even read reviews? Agree that it shouldn't matter for Eragon, while for Charlotte's Web, parents should be encouraged by the great reviews it's getting, for a great book that probably most of them have read.
