And everyone was telling me that Babel is definitely out. Ha. I'm glad I kept it in my 5th Best Picture nominee slot for the Oscars.

Peace,
Mike.

Told you so.

We have our 5th nominee, ladies and gentleman.

So, this is the most predictable BP race in years, or so it seems:

Babel
Dreamgirls
Letters fro Iwo Jima
The Departed
The Queen

When I clicked submit to post my above nomination list, the last post in this thread was on page 5. It took about 4 minutes to submit.

Departed received two Supporting Actor nominations which would seem to mean that they both have less of a chance to win although Nicholson definitely has the edge.

Monster House, Cars and Happy Feet for best animated feature. Over the moon that Monster House got in.

Slightly less over the moon that Children Of Men hasn't managed a single nomination. It honestly baffles the fuck out of me.

Sad about the Condon snub but I'm really worried for Scorsese fans.

Why are you worried? Hopefully, the two Eastwood noms cancel each other out. Plus, the Academy Awards are really what matters and they seem less likely to give Eastwood two noms.

Ditto. It doesn't make sense to me that it has gotten literally nothing in anything important. Hopefully the Guilds and Oscars will fix that (and at least reward the films technical achievements). I have faith that the Guilds will do that for us.

Peace,
Mike.

How can Will Smith get a nom over Gosling, really? The movie is getting some of the worst reviews of the season! I bet Rocky ends up fresher, so why not nominate Stallone?

And a BP nom for Bobby without Stone? WTF!

some thoughts on some nominees:

Babel has shown up on just about every list, it actually has a pretty decent chance of being nominated at Oscar BP now with the forthcoming guilds love. Though it could still be this year's A History of Violence/About Schmidt/Being John Malkovich.

No acting support for Letters makes it less likely for an eventual Oscar win.

Lack of screenplay nom or supporting actor nom for Little Miss Sunshine shows that it's weaker than some of us may be expecting.

Dreamgirls is not that strong by missing Condon. It could still pull a Walk the Line. Despite the early super positive buzz, we have to remember that early buzz for Phantom of the Opera was great too.

The Departed is strong as usual and will probably get even more acting nominations at the Oscars/SAG than for the GG.
