I posted a rant here, it wasn't an attack, but it's not how I want to handle this situation, so I'm going to take it up directly with loyal. I really want to be his bud again, this aggrivation is partially/mostly responsible for the last month or so I was away from the site. I just hate the atmosphere here at WOKJ sometimes. I haven't helped it, but I no longer wish to help perpetuate it, and would like to help reverse it.
Mike is right though. Many of us have it as #6 but we're all reluctant to assume it's place, so this whole thread is a bit misdirected at the moment:
Quote: 5 is the number of nominations it needs for a Best Picture run.
Full Monty and The Green Mile were also nominated with 4, as was the aforementioned Lost in Translation. Although, you are correct, that it's probable lack of Ensemble potential is a negative, otherwise at this point most of us would have it pretty locked in at number 5.
As you support Little Miss Sunshine pretty viciously, I think it's kind of odd that you will try to push this statistic given that, because of the Director issue, I could easily see LMS only nab BP, Arkin and Screenplay. Sure, LMS could pick up Cinematography and Editing too... if it got Best Picture, I would expect that. But given those categories, the same could be said about United 93 picking up Director + BP + Cinematography + Editing and making a go at a BP nomination.

I haven't invested as much emotionally on any film this year comparing to last year. The only one I'm desperately pulling for a win so far is Mirren, and there is little to worry there.

I know everyone has been saying how great this year has been, but I was actually a lot more impressed by 2005's crop, to be honest. I mean, I have 3 'A' movies this year so far (U93, Departed, Little Miss Sunshine), but I think I had more than that by this time of the year last year.

I would have to agree.
The films that came closest for me personally were LMS and Volver but it's not like I'm rooting for either to win BP and know that their Oscar chances/nominations will be limited.
I don't know why but I feel somewhat strongly about The Queen/Mirren. I think it was so well done but again... there's not much to discuss when it comes to Oscars. Mirren will take it no doubt and there's very slim chance The Queen will win if nominated.
I think the race is very interesting and varied this year but I'm not personally or emotionally invested with any film like I had been for the 5 years probably peaking with last year.

The only thing I'd like to see is Daniel Craig get nominated. But that's not happening.
I'm actually excited because, of the top 7 I've seen, I enjoy them all. Love two of them, and respect the others.

BTW...nice pun in the title, loyal.
So yeah, I never really thought United 93 was much of a contender anyway. Aside from a few mentions on a handfull of top ten lists, there really isn't much of a buzz going on. In fact, the only times it seems to get mentioned around here is whenever loyal bitches about it.

This is a much different view than many at the OW boards..many there think U93 is in..and it appears that many here doubt 93 is in.
Its going to be a interesting awards season.

Shack, I'm not trying to be offensive but...
I'm not sure how seriously you're going to be taken with a website name like Teen Bachelor Productions

Oh that's just the url, website is boxofficefanatic.com, when navigating the site it'll show boxofficefanatic.com on every page... the teenbachelor url had to be used to link. boxofficefanatic/_______ is something still being worked on, the site and a lot of those details was created before I got there.

The politics have rapidly turned against U93 and it's awards hopes, what with the whole Iraq thing gone to hell. After all, 9/11® was the whole reason to invade that place, right?!? It's just so darn confusing trying to remember what we've been told to think...

Mr. Witherberry, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.

In U93's defense, and as per my original review -- at the very least, it is quality propoganda...

I agree. I just went back and looked over my list of 2006 Films I saw in theaters, and, after changing some grades for films that didn't hold up upon thinking about, it really hasn't been a great year. Two of my three favorites have all been critical favorites (LMS, Children of Men), and other then The Fountain, there really hasn't been anything that stood out as emotionally vesting for me. I got a lot out of The Fountain. It stands no chance at any awards though. As far as emotionally "vested" in any serious award-contenders, it just isn't there.
At least the races are interesting this year. We've got some good races and I think there are some real wild cards out there.

Looks like that tactic with using the critics in the awards might have worked out for U93.
Didnt know the support was there for Greengrass..did he even get a DGA nom?

Nope, but he DID win a lot of critcs awards, including the LAFCA. This continues its streak of getting its Director winner to the Oscars that been going for nearly 20 years.
