For Rocky 6 to bomb it needs to gross about 30mill total since that what it costed(including marketing), and this will def make more than 30mill, no way this bombs.

Well, like I said, fanboys will use the 15-20 Million budget this cost to call it a definite hit right now, but when you consider what this franchise or each movie grossed back in the 80's?? If it doesn't at least match those movie's, then YES, it will be a box office bomb.. I'm sorry but spin it anyway you want.. These movie's made a fortune back then and compared to today, anything less than 100 Million domestically will be deemed disappointing.. That's just the way it is..

You dont seem to know what the defenition of box office dissapointment/bomb means. If a movie that cost 15mill to make makes 50mill+ then thats a very good profit.
Ill tell you what, if this film grosses less than Rocky V then i will agree its a dissapointment, but that aint happening.

Interestingly enough, David Letterman stated on his show that he saw ROCKY BALBOA and said that it wasn't very exciting at all.. He said the basic plot breakdown was that ROCKY was designing a Hamburger Grill like George Forman and also stated that when Stallone was interviewed while making this movie, that he abstained from having sex to make this.. Letterman said quote: "Instead of abstaining from having sex while making this movie, how about actually having sex and abstaining from making anymore sequels"..MWHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! :hahaha:

Sly was on Jim Rome's radio show and TV show today. Very good interviews; I expect this movie to do really well.

He basically said he was making this movie as atonement for the bad Rocky movies, that this would bring closure to the entire series. Sounded like he was really proud of it, and he said that Tarver was actually allowed to beat up on him (and knocked him down quite a few times).

I don't think it'll bomb. Should be $5m worth of business in Philly alone :)

I saw Letterman, BKB, you could be a Yellow Journalist. It was all in good fun and said it was actually very good. Stallone was on Leno and Leno raved.

Thats your best argument, stating the most obvious thing and thinking noone would know that.

Obviously he would rave about it, thats what Talk Shows are about, but the great clip, Sly and Jay having a very good interview, and audience loving the clip they showed seems to be a much better indicator.

My point was Letterman saw the move and gave it thumbs up, he was only joking.

Leno has gone on to say after the interview that he enjoyed the film (On his show). Whether or not he is still whoring for the studio is up to you, but why not just believe him?

As for it being on Live TV - It's more along the lines of (At least for Jay) recording in front of a studio audience three hours before the show airs in the East. Not exactly "Live".

BKB is really starting to scrape the bottom of the barrel to come up with reasons to bash this movie anymore.

Dumbass, they have what's called an "Applaud Meter", a sign that blinks to the audience to let them know when to applaud... Of course there gonna applaud.. How would it look if they showed the clip and you heard nothing but crickets in the audience and no one responded to it???

To bomb, Rocky Balboa needs under $30 million. Not happening. Remember, this thread is about the filming bombing, not disappointing or not becoming a $150 million grosser.

I blame that on YOU.. The dumb teenage geeks that despite listening to reason here at this site that ERAGON was really bad, that you all enabled it to beat out a much better movie like Charlotte's Web.. You all make me want to punch a kitten for this stupidity.. Gee Mods?? Do we have an emoticon for that?? :disgust:

See?? To me, this movie could cost 2 Million to make and of course it will open higher than 2 Million and be deemed a HIT, but when you factor in how much this franchise made back in the day, back in the 80's at over a 100 Million a movie, this better at the very LEAST Come close to matching that, otherwise I have no other choice but to feel it will be a disappointment based on that..

Disappointment, not bomb. I could side with you that the film would disappoint, but I'm not even sure what a disappointment would be considering that the film has pretty much been a joke up until very recently. Honestly, I'd call anything above $50 million a success for this film, considering what it has going against it.

People can officially hike their prediction to 40 million OW now since the tracking seems to go the opposite end of these types of BKB threads now

You're calling him a dumbass? That's not nice.

If he says that they were "loving it," then it's likely that they did more than politely applaud on cue. Unless there's a "show sincere approval" sign and the audience are somehow very cooperative, then you've stated something obvious that he already knows. Reading comprehension my friend...

More insightful information from BKB, the studio expert. I've been in many different studio sets in my short life that Im not even going to argue with you.

On Conan last night, people were cheering during the clip, and than had a monsterous applause after another good interview. Meanwhile, they had a clip from Night at the Museum, and noone laughed during the clip, only applauded at the end, for the default reaction. Your just continually try and spin this films very positive buzz no matter what, and come the weekend you'll have very little left.

Oh and good job on Charlottes Web, you nailed that one,

Its coffin I mean. :shades:

Oh and BKB because your so well updated on studio methods, its "APPLAUSE METER" not Applaud. If your gonna try and be smart and talk about the business with me, at least know what your talking about.

Time to BUMP this up since 6.2 Million seems awfully low for a movie that was mega popular back in the 80's, but in the end, I'll be spoonfed the whole: "Well BKB, it cost 10 Million to make, therefore, it's a Hit" sort of shi*.. This certainly does not bode well for RAMBO 44 if and whenever Stallone makes this and the same thing will apply for DIE HARD WITH LAUGHTER..

Yeah I do agree that it definately doesnt bode so well for Live Free and Die Harder. Willis is pretty mcuh in the same boat as Stallone was 10 years ago where his career is fading. I really thought it would have done well since its pretty much the only Rocky since part 2 to have this much critical acclaim

Do you think it underwhelming affect had more to do with the franchise dying out or more to do with the actors age sort of like how T3 could have been argued on both ends of the deal? If it does have to do with audiences not buying a 50 year old action hero anymore, that doesnt sound too optimistic lnot just for Die Hard but Rush Hour and Indiana Jones

You're actually right. The expected opening, even with the Wed release, was around $20mil, give or take a couple mill.
Yeah, I really have no idea what happened...

It really does boil down to the fact that times have simply changed and both Stallone and Willis really are good actors, but it's time for them to take the next step in their career and stay behind the camera and make movies.. Stallone is a talented director and he has the chops to do it and I imagine Bruce Willis could also be just as talented in directing if he gave it a shot.. Problem is is that too many folks simply didn't buy into another ROCKY movie and still referred to it as ROCKY 6 when it wasn't in almost a mocking sort of way.. Even worse is if and whenever Lucas and Spielberg decide to do another Indiana Jones movie, that pople are really gonna give Harrsion Ford shi* cause he looks older than both Stallone and Willis combined and no one will buy into him as an action hero anymore.. Ford should do another Tom Clancy movie, a followup to Clear and Present Danger..
