Haha. Interesting, indeed!

So Happy Feet... not the winner, really. Though it would have gone to the even crappier Scanner Darkly.

Wow, if you read this stuff you have to regard those awards as a joke. A foreign language winner that nobody liked? Some cheating to avoid a tie? And a dubious bathroom-break winner?

I've always found it hilarious because their website is so blatantly anti-Oscars and continually emphasizes how they have had a better track record and are the better alternative to look to, with the Oscars "sometimes dubious selections for the annual best in cinema" (from their website). They say they are free from "commercial and political pressures" to which the Oscars succumb. Heh.

Peace,
Mike.

The reason for them being a "better alternative" is that they vote as long as it takes until they have a hip winner. Well, I guess they're not so different from a backyard club after all.

It's strange that Iwo Jima is rewarded, but Eastwood gets no love. I mean, he put two generally well-received movies out there, shouldn't the director category be where he shows up?

UA93 winning NY is about as surprising as Departed winning Boston.

Only most people predicted other movies besides U93 to win NY
