From BOM:

The Host moved from 1/26/07 to 3/9/07;
Breaking and Entering moved from 12/8/06 to unknown;
Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium sets its date on 11/16/07;

That's weird for Breaking and Entering, a week before its release and all FYC ads already out for this year's awards.

ComingSoon has it listed as April 5. All other sites still have it listed as January 5.

I don't see the point of releasing it on April 5. It's a Thursday, and not to mention that direct competition from Grind House, which comes out the very next day.

Just figured why they went with the April 5th Thursday opening. Its Easter weekend so they are aiming at giving it a 4 day weekend. Grindhouse opens the next day.

FINALLY! Some big release date chages.

10,000 B.C. Warner Bros. 2008
I Am Legend Warner Bros. 12/14/07

10,000 B.C. moves to 2008. Hmm...a big-budget Warner Bros. film...you know what there that belongs. 2nd slot in May. Though that probably ensures that it will dissapoint. Maybe Warner Bros. will give this Speed Racers slot now? We'll see.

I am Legend moves. This is great news for Beowulf. That films potential def. increases now that it doesn't have to deal with Will Smith. But...His Dark Materials and NT2 are now crying. The teen auidence for both are most likley gone with this date change. Both I think are going to be hurt by this as they will lose the teen/young adult crowd now for sure.

Interesting. I kind of liked 1000 BC in its December slot. It will probably do worse in May.

I think National Treasure should definitely move to Thanksgiving. That would be perfect for it.

I wonder what are the chances of Potter moving to November?? Maybe WB knows something we dont ;) But I highly doubt it.

WB would have moved HP5 with I Am Legend moving. They already releaesd a teaser and poster saying July 2007. I'm 99% sure they won't be movingit.

And I agree. NT2 needs to move to Thanksgiving now and His Dark Materials should takes NT2 place in December. That would work out the best.

NT2 is pushed up pretty much as far as it can go, considering it won't even go into production until early next year and is a big budget (likely) fx intensive action film.

Also, it took FOREVER to test screen and tweak NT1 to get it into shape.

Oh, and 10,000 B.C. move I think is the first of a few 2007 films that will move to 2008. Studios are realizing that 2007 is over-crowded and that 2008 still has room left so I won't be surprised if we see a few more films moving from 2007 to 2008.

It does look like that doesnt it. The 2nd weekend of summer could spell doom for it. I think Summer 07 isnt too bad as it is now. Ideally It would have been better to have HP in November and Pirates in July but that wont happen. The first three months of the year are way too crowded though. It would be good if a few could be delayed.

Fair enough. So that means it will barely make Christmas 07 - which is still a great time to release it.

True. But I was being ideal. Ideally, it would be best to have NT2 in THanksgiving and then have His Dark Materials take its spot. But that probably isn't possible as you said.

But now that you mention how tight of a schedule NT2 has, that has made me wonder. I still somewhat doubt whether NT2 will even make it for December 2007. I mean, NT1 started filming I think around October 2003 and was released November 2004. Either they're going to have to really be wise with their time management or they will rush things and make a crappy film or they just won't get done in time. I think there is a very good chance that NT2 may pull a MI3. MI3 was all set to go for summer 2005 but then got delayed to summer 2006. NT2 seems all set for winter 2007 but I think it will get delayed to either summer 2008 or winter 2008.

I'm sure they will make a valiant effort to still make 2007 since their Q3 and Q4 is pretty weak (Underdog, at this point, still seems more like an INSPECTOR GADGET level release), but yeah, if they hit any kind of weather delays or have to do any kind of reshoots it's 2008 for sure.

Jesus, look at all the planned January Oscar expansions:

January 5:
Home of the Brave MGM- Wide
Breaking and Entering Weinstein Company - LA, NYC
Miss Potter MGM (Weinstein) - Limited
The Painted Veil Warner Independent - Expansion
Venus Miramax - Expansion

January 12:
Miss Potter MGM (Weinstein) - Wide
Letters from Iwo Jima Warner Bros. - Wave 2 - Limited
The Painted Veil Warner Independent - Expansion

January 19:
The Last King of Scotland Fox Searchlight - Wide
The Departed Warner Bros. - Wide Academy Run
Dreamgirls Paramount (DreamWorks) - Expansion
The Good German Warner Bros. - Expansion
The Painted Veil Warner Independent - Expansion

January 26:
Breaking and Entering Weinstein Company - Wide
Letters from Iwo Jima Warner Bros. - Wave 3 - Limited

I find the constant Painted Veil expansion, Last King's still-planned wide release, The Departed's release and Iwo Jima's planned "wave" releases most intriguing.

Interesting!

So now there is a confirmed Departed academy wide run. That should help it substantially if it can net a bunch of oscar noms.

Letters from Iwo Jim is poised to capitilise on its kudos. It does have a chance of beating Flags. Who would have thought that even two months ago.

Good to see Last King of Scotland getting a second wind.

The Painted Veil has a slow expansion. It is a romance isnt it? If so then it may be at its peak around Valentine's Day which would definitely help its BO.

Bad move for Departed, should've went to DVD around February and forgotten about any type of oscar expansion. Now will probably have to wait longer for the dvd and it wont end up with big dvd numbers.

I kind of prefer it to have bigger BO numbers over DVD. It will do well on DVD regardless and will probably be released in March/April anyway. I guess it depends on big an expansion and the number/type of awards it wins.

I'm confused. The official sites says The Good German will open nationwide Dec. 22nd. Is this still on or was the expansion delayed?

I'd guess it will expand. I seriously doubt they'd go wide in December. Not with so many films out and the similar sounding Shephard out aswell.

It will most likely just expand into more theaters the week...The actual WIDE release will be in January still.

Official movie sites sometimes call releases in the hundreds of theaters wide.

Not a bad move. It should co-exist with Oceans and Surf's Up as neither should be too big. This is a weekend we could have 3 films open in the $20-$30m area.

I don't know - I'd be inclined to take a June release date more often than not. Unless there's major competition, a summer release is usually a good sign.

Much better spot than April 2007 for Hostel 2.

That June 8th weekend seems to be big. O13, Surfs Up, and Hostel 2. Three new openers alone could combine for over 90m+, and you still will have holdovers from the BIG THREE. That could be the weekend in which the big three really lose their steam I think as Hostel 2, Surfs UP, and O13 combine should target all demographs.

The Omen did just fine with that release date. It had the 6/6/06 thing going for it, but Hostel 2 has a lot more on it's side once you get past that marketing scheme.

Summer horror has just proven to not be that big, then again Hostel wasn't a huge hit to begin with. I'm speaking in total box office, not relative to its budget. I'm just thinking that it is going to get crushed, but given the fact that it will be a cheap film to produce, it won't be that big of a loss I guess.

Of course, based on the fact that the original wasn't terribly well received, it wouldn't be surprising to see the film loose a good portion of the first's audience, I don't exactly expect it to have a Saw-esque growth, even less now that it is opening in June.

Eh I dunno this is Lion's Gate we're talking about, and if there's any studio I could see having marketing that gets people to give a horror sequel another chance, it's those crazy Canucks.

An assortment of new dates:

Disturbia - April 13th 2007 (from August 18 2007)
Rocket Science - August 8th 2007
The Waterhorse - September 29th 2007 (from December 7th 2007)
Angels & Demons - December 19th 2008 (from December 12th 2008)
The Mist - November 21st 2007

Good move for The Watrehorse. This gets it out ahead of the trifecta of Fantasy films coming out in late 07 - Beowulf, Enchanted and Materials.

Now the Mist finally gets a release date.
