Sooooo.....I'll just add android to the list, and we'll see about Raffi soon enough.
Oh.. and potentially being the only American in the Lead Actress category. Yes, I'm feeling confident now.

I'm telling you, she's got everything going for her this year!
You and I are going to be able to point and laugh at everyone else come Oscar time.

If she gets a double nom, I think her chances would actually diminish.
She will split the vote between the two categories and the only one she might have had a chance in (Supporting) will definitely be shot.
Miranda for Supporting!

Usually you aren't very good at Oscar predictions, are you?

 I'm right this time!
Plus, android and raffi are better than me, and they're part of the club. So there.

Am I the only one who still thinks it's a bit troubling that Streep is even being considered for lead in Prada?
Because goodness. gracious. she's supporting.
And I hope they do actually do end up submitting her there.

And if she does end up being put in lead, she's not winning.
On top of not being able to stop Mirren, she doesn't have enough screen time.

Eh but
How much more screen time did Denzel have in Training Day? Did Reese Witherspoon even have that much more screen time in Walk the Line?

Freeze frame at 2:05... that scene alone deserves a nomination.

If she goes supporting for Prada is the ONLY way she will have a chance at winning. And I'd be 96% sure she'd win it in that scenario.

Having not seen Training Day, I can't comment there, but... regarding Reese, I might say yes (except that I don't want to be wrong).
I just think that Prada is a film *about* Hathaway's character, not Streep's. Not saying two leads aren't possible, but in this case, I think Hathaway has so much more screen time that it's a bit unfair to categorize Streep with her.
I think this also stems from my opinion that Streep seems to be riding on ONE scene that she really knocked out of the park.

I'm not criticizing her performance, by the way. I think she's great. And I loved that one scene.
I'm just maintaining that I think it's not lead.

For everyone who thinks the female/supporting female categories are in the bag, how many society wins did Crash actually have going into last year's Oscars compared to Brokeback Mountain, huh? Ever think of that? Huh?

I'm not really trying to work up an argument against you right now but I just have to say that last year was such an utter anomaly that I would rarely use it as precedence. Plus, BP category carries significantly more weight than any acting category when it comes to the politics of voting, so... eh, I don't even know where I'm going with this. I have a final in exactly 12 hours and I'm posting about Meryl Streep

They have Mirren to give the Oscar to... and if not her, they have Dench. And if not Dench, there is Cruz.
Peace, Mike.
But Dench already has an Oscar.
I'd love Mirren to win, but frontrunner in the actress category often stumble at the last minute....think Julianne Moore and Sissy Spacek.
Another Oscar for Streep would make me very happy!

LOL...when I first read the thread title I thought it meant Streep was receiving an honourary golfing club from the AMPAS.
Oh well, I don't know. I'd say Mirren is the front runner right now, but Streep could win by defacto if The Queen loses a lot of steam in the final stretch.

You joining our little soiree, Tod?
And remember, I just said ''an' Oscar, not which (lead/supporting).
I just have a feeling she's going to get one somehow this year. And we all know that my natural intuition about Streep is better than Loyal's about a Dreamgirls sweep, so that's definately saying something...I think.

If anyone can take Mirren down, it's Streep. But I'm still a little skeptical. I'm sorta halfway in.......

You know, it's likely Streep will be the only American nominated for best actress. I think the last time that happened, a TV actress named Helen Hunt beat out Julie Christie, Helena Bonham Carter, Judi Dench, AND Kate Winslet!

Off-topic, have you seen Letters yet?
Not yet. It opened about a week ago, but it's in Japanese. With no subtitles. And while I understand some Japanese, I'm not fluent yet. Bummer, huh?

If nominated for best actress, she won't win. If nominated for supporting actress, I think she has a chance.
