BKB is right about the lame set-up though. I saw the commercial with the two guys fighting in the viedo game, then Stallone deciding to fight for real and I was thinking What the heck is this? you got the plot line wrong. it looks like few people here are familiar with Discovery's 'vs' show. the plot line suggested here is actually something that happens on TV right now, except it focusses more on animals. but the principle remains the same.
Actually, the plot is based on something that really happened.in 2002 espn did a fight simulation between Roy Jones jr.(who was considered the best boxer at the time but was exposed later as overrated) vs Antonio Tarver, who was jones #1 contender,After seeing the result Jones was so pissed off that he signed to fight tarver, jones won a controversial fight that most boxing journalists(and me also) thought he clearly lost, so they faught again and Jones was knocked the fuck out in round 2.

Has anyone here been following Sly's Q&A on AICN? AICN questions. The questions are really good and Sly comes off as a very likeable guy. Not sure if the movie will do well, but I think it could surprise and i'm feeling really pumped for this film.

If people really think Rocky will make 100M or more, well, that movie is going to be a Disappointment, with a capital "D".

I'm new to this whole BO thing but I don't think Rocky Balboa will bomb. The marketing and interview are designed primarily to head off the exact type of criticisms that OP stated. Buzz is very high and nostalgia goes a long way during the holidays. It won't bomb. Trust the noob.
Didn't you also predict that Casino Royale would bomb?

Yeah, so??? Now what?? I'll be anxious to see how your track record is when it comes to predicting box office.. And where is this so called "Buzz" you speak of for ROCKY 66??? If anything, this movie has elicited laughter and not in a good way either..

Actually, I completely agree with the newbie. I can't wait for Rocky. I know several people
who also want to see Rocky. At the video store, there has been high interest in the prior
Rocky films. At moviefone, it has been one of the top 5 viewed trailers for quite a while.
On the yahoo buzz chart, it's been on there forever. I'm quite certain the film won't
bomb because of these indications. There's a chance it could be a breakout hit too.

Better to not have a track record than to have yours, Mr. Amityville Horror $50m opening.

How can this film bomb? It is made for a very reasonable budget and for it to not make that back is absurd. The trailer looks fantastic and when you can convert people like me, die hards that thought the 5th was a disgrace, then you have done something right. I think this will do 50 mill minimum, and maybe 80 max. That is hardly a bomb. And when you factor in WW money, 150 is possible.
And I can't wait to see this film...can't friggin wait.

Yahoo Buzz charts, IMDB movie meter, ads on TV, talk show hosts talking about Rocky, Sly Stallone on MNF at the Philadelphia game...

No one on this site predicted that chief, welcome to KJ.
85 million could happen though, which would be amazing for a 20 million film, and will most likely at least match what it makes here overseas.

I've messed up on plenty. The Ring Two (which you nailed), M:I-3 (which you also did well on), Doom, XXX: State of the Union, etc. Point is, he doesn't have to show you his track record when you're like 4/500.

Zing didnt go out of his way to make a thread entitling his opinion about the BO of a film. You have to admit that you however made a thread dubbing Talledegah Nights to bomb, My Super Ex to do extremely well, Saw 3 to open over 40 million(that one I was on your side), and Casino Royale to Bomb. This was just this year
PS: BKB did think that MI3 will do well until he went to Rons parking lot, Zing

I've never claimed to be some sort of box office guru like 90% of you do and take this shi* so seriously.. I do it for FUN and don't care whether I'm right or wrong, but enjoy stirring up shi* over it..

The DA VINCI CODE Was a piece of shi* which I got right and the only thing even remotely interesting in this movie was marveling for 2 and a half hours at how Tom Hanks got his hair in the condition it was.. That alone was DISC 3 in explaining this when the DVD was released.. As for POTC 2?? Come on.. This movie was making $$$ hand over fist at the time and it was hard not to notice this.. It looked like a sure thing at the time, but then again, so did MENACE when it came out to..

BKB dude, I just don't think it's going to bomb. I was pretty skeptical about this too, but Stallone has outsmarted us all on this one. You were screaming up and down that Stallone was milking his fame and squeezing out One Last Fight, and you said he was too old and no way could he do it. And now, Stallone has taken your precise complaint and molded the plot around it. .....
From what I saw in the trailer, the characters who surround him are all little BKB clones, shouting "you're nuts" at him. Can Rocky do it again? There will be a bunch of folks cheering him on on opening night.
(the digital fight game is still wacky.)

Rocky is from Philly. Not even the Eagles or the Falcons are more popular than Rocky in Philly. Id love a Rocky Statue as well though.

Not only that. The good people of Philly were allowed to recreate the famous run up to the Museum of Art from the first Rocky for the credit sequence.
