I knew a long time ago that the studio was willing to treat this like a serious contender. When they moved this film all the way from October to the end of December (which completely doesn't jive with the rest of the world), I knew something was up. Now they've garnered a fan base, are starting with the promotions and posters, and can potentially gather momentum through January if they work out the film's run well. We'll have to see what happens.
I would love nothing more than for this to break out and become a contender. At this point, I don't think it will, but at the very least, I'm getting ready to see a great film (the WOM here at KJ alone is amazing).

I think I'm the same page as Mike.
I really never expected this to do much Oscar and awards-wise but they are definitely shelling out the campaign now and while I still don't see it getting any big noms, it's going to be interesting to see where it lands and even more interesting to watch. Before, all it had going for my ticket is Julianne Moore... now I'm really intrigued overall.

Problem is whether or not the AFIs consider it eligible or not. They are a very good indicator.

This is most disheartening.
Still, I fully expect this to surprise come nominations night. The actors and tech folk who make up the academy are far more likely to appreciate the work in Children of Men than some stuffy critic associations!

At least it hasn't been totally shut out everywhere; it has been getting some well-deserved wins/recognition for the cinematography. Let's see what the Globes can do for us. Maybe there will be a little love from them.

It got nominated for British Film, Director and Best Newcomer (Clare-Hope Ashitey).

Man, it would be so great if Children of Men snuck in to Best Picture, and a few other awards. It sucks because I loved Little Miss Sunshine, Borat, Half Nelson, The Departed, and I would still be deeply disappointed with the noms for the Oscars if Children of Men was snubbed.
... err, sorry Snrub. I meant to say that a snubbing is NOT a possibility! A nomination is guaranteed!!!
